    it is said that you can throw ashes from a fire under a hedge or around shrubs?

    Are ashes compostable or should they be thrown in to the bin?

    Ashes from a log fire and to a lesser extent a turf fire are a good source of potassium for the soil, but the ashes from a coal fire contains toxins that poison the soil and should go in the bin.
