Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I think the fans are crying out for a marquee signing.

As has been done to death, we have lost or sold on many star players over the years but have not really bought a star player in a long time.

I think many thought that one of the real pluses in bringing in Klopp was his big name pulling power. I will be very dissapointed if we dont get a real player in for the boost it will give heading in to the season.

Im excited about Matip but Grujic and Zielinski arent really doing it for me. That might be ignorant but, meh. Fingers crossed.

    Klopp is the star.
    The team is the star.

Klopps reputation was built on buying young upcoming players and moulding them into a team. He has a patchy record, at best, on big money signings.

Skrtel to Roma is the new rumour.

Hopefully one of the new players will be the star in the making. Good solid team that will let us win games. Big name signings bring pressure on them, we need a team that will settle quick, not have unwanted extra pressure cause they have scored in 20 seconds etc.

Personally I don't care if we have another Gerard, Flower, Barns or King Kenny, I want a team like those before when fans list the team and not just 1 or 2 players.

Coutinho, Firmino, Sturridge, Origi, Can............. there's at least one 2015/2016 star in there.

I reckon Klopp might think there's enough at his disposal to mount a serious Top4 challenge or better next season.

Can't see a big name coming in.

Looks like Karius is off to the Olympics.

I would expect Skrtel to permanently break Sturridge on Monday.

Will that be before or after his own goal(s)?

Sure Sturridge is 3rd choice for England, be a wonder if he's used at all.

I think Augeo was being sarcastic, as he does.

Roma have reached an agreement for Skrtel. 3 years contract for the Slovak former Liverpool defender.

    If it's true.

Tbh, I'd prefer him to go to Italy over Turkey, I think he still has a lot to offer at a higher level than Turkey.

You see it differently. I am delighted for LFC as he has been a liability for some time. Big elbows, poor positioning, silly tackles. Granted that has really been for the last 2 seasons and I thought he served well before that.

I'm happy to see him gone but I think Italy will suit him better despite it being a higher level than Turkey. Italian defenders tend to be a bit better at organising defenses than we have been so a more clearly defined role will suit him, I think.

I'm doubting a marquee €50m signing is even on Klopps mind. But if it did happen I'd like to see it go on a young version of Xabi Alonso. We are really in need of a metronome in midfield, someone who can stamp their authority over the game. Maybe Can will turn into that player but at the moment as good as he can be I'm not convinced he will reach the level of Alonso in his prime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,930 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

With Watford turning down £25m for Deeney any marquee signing for any of the so called big clubs will be £60m+ would be my guess and Liverpool won't spend that kind of money on 1 player.

The only way Liverpool get a marquee player is one in the last year of his contract like Gotze on the cheap.

Range of passing is incomparable to be fair, but Can gets about the pitch more I reckon.

Can't see Can being as good as Alonso, which isn't an insult to the chap, Alonso was/is an exceptional footballer.

Can still has a lot of developing to do. He just 22 an already a big player.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Can is not an Alonso type - he is more of Sissoko/Didi crossover.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,035 ✭✭✭✭J Mysterio

He has a bit of Gerrard in him even.

Italian team. It's a 3 year loan deal with us paying his wages.

For the love of God. We can't be that stupid. Who pays wages of someone they no longer need at the end of their career.

If someone managed to do it, it would be Liverpool with the help of our well-aging, pasta-eating, dodgy, corrupt, Mediterranean friends.

Well Roma are another FSG owned club but I'm not sure what that'd mean in terms of amount we get from them. I'd imagine it is in the £5m-£7m range that is mentioned though, but my first thought on hearing he might be going to an Italian club was similar to Turty's post.

Roma owner has share of FSG, not a majority share or anywhere near it.

    Skrtel off to Italy
Italian clubs know how to defend, at least they did.
    Might change now.

Skretl could of made the move to Rugby in my opinion.

It was tongue in cheek but I doubt if anyone on here would be very surprised if that is close to what will happen.

We really should put a clause somewhere in the club rules stopping us from ever selling to Italian clubs.

Or buying for more than £8.5m;)

Does anyone else find the near total shut down of transfer names coming from the club and fed to Joyce, Barrett etc refreshing or frustrating?

Refreshing. However, it means that cretins such as indykaila have a field day with folk willing to believe that Messi's been spotted in Dealz in Birkenhead.

All jokes aside, 32 and left go from Celtic, the lad is in trouble now. 1 in 6 for a PL striker is fairly poor anyway over his career.... he'll struggle to get a Championship gig imo.

Lads one of my mates wants to bring her boyfriend over for a match next year, looking at Chelsea at home in Feb. What would be the best way to go about getting tickets? tks

No it's not - Thomas DiBenedetto has a stake of less than 5% of FSG, he also owns 20% of a company that has a majority stake in AS Roma.

Usually it's difficult to get tickets for the big games ie Chelsea, utd ect. But with the new extended stand she might be lucky. If she falls out with himself just send me an auld PM I'd be willing to escort her myself. Joking aside she's a keeper.

Ya, I thought there was a bigger stake than there actually is.

So basically are targets are Chilwell, Dahoud, Zielinski, Gotze or Mane, and maybe another CB.

Mane won't go for much less than 40m, that's not Klopp's or FSG's style.
Gotze won't happen either, would'nt be disappointed if neither of them joined, one has'nt much desire to play for the club and the other is overpriced.
