Well I wouldn't bet on Liverpool anyhow. That's a general rule of thumb anyhow.

That's my rule of thumb & I don't fancy them tomorrow!

Based on who I have left I might just put my faith in the ressies!

I think he posted a picture on Facebook yesterday on the team bus with Henderson so whether they're just travelling with the squad or gonna be involved is unknown

    Joel Matip assist yesterday.

Reminded me a lot of Agger when he arrived first.

Had totally missed Sevilla are in the cup final next Sunday against Barcelona.

Serious cup specialists and they will see the Europa as the main target.

Confirmed #LFC starting line-up v @WBAFCofficial: Bogdan, Flanagan, Skrtel, Lucas, Smith, Stewart, Allen, Brannagan, Ibe, Ojo, Benteke.

Confirmed #LFC subs against @WBAFCofficial: Mignolet, Henderson, Ilori, Ings, Randall, Canos, Chirivella.

High possibility of seeing Canos and Chirivella come on looking at that bench with a cameo for Ings also. Can't understand why Ilori wouldn't start though

Hendo, Ings and Canos to come on as subs I'd say.

    Youngest PL match squad since????

    Bogdán; 28
    Flanagan, 23
    Škrtel, 31
    Lucas, 29
    Smith; 22
    Brannagan, 20
    Stewart, 22
    Ojo, 18
    Allen; 26
    Ibe 20
    Benteke 25

    Mignolet 28 Henderson 25 Ilori 23 Ings 23 Randall 20 Canos 19 Chirivella 18

    Delighted Ings is back

Not as inexperienced a line up as I expected, only 3 players under 22 in there. I reckon barring injuries, Canos, Henderson and Ings will be the players to come on. I'd like to see Canos getting 45 mins and the others getting 20 mins or so. I guess Henderson will make the bench at least on Wednesday if he comes through this ok.

Fair play to Ings for making the end of the season. If his talent can match his desire/character (no Rodgers jokes), then he'll be a great player for us.

Never been so happy to see Skrtel named in first 11... :pac:

Toby is very popular at the moment over with the Utd folk.

    Crazy stuff all together.

It wouldn't be happening at the Aviva, you can't get in there with a cap on a bottle of water.

Benteke did nothing at all to make a case for staying, I saw the results when he starts and its a dismal collection of 0-0, 1-0, 1-1's

7th would have been nice, great to see Canos and in particular Ings back.

8th......disappointing.......however, we blew a lot of leads and am generally optimistic on a 8+ point improvement next season which should put us in the mix for top 4.....

Yeah 6pts off 4th having played more games than anybody else in Europe. Expecting a serious push for top 4 next year

    Canos got his hug.

Like others, disappointing end to a disappointing league season.

The points dropped from winning positions is something that will hopefully be worked on, its been disgraceful to say the least. Also hoping that we will have less defensive/goalkeeping errors that have led to dropped points and losses.

Few additions and subtractions to an otherwise decent squad along with a full (ish) preseason for Klopp should see us in the mix.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

Mad to think 6 more points would of got us top four. Anyhow its champions league or nothing with a huge game wednesday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Been good in the cups but not a good league season. I'm confident though that Klopp with his own pre-season to come and a few new players that we will be substantially better and more consistent in the league next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The league performance wasn't good enough, bottom line. It's all about Wednesday and Klopp has led very credible efforts in the Cup sphere so I'm looking forward to next season either way - but improvement is required in league competition with a full preseason under his belt and the ability to bring players in over the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,928 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

When Klopp got the job I would have been very happy with this scenario get to the EL final with a chance of a European trophy and a CL place with a squad low on moral and a lot of them very average players along with getting to another cup final along the way.

    Roll on Wednesday.

Recon quite a few of those who played today are not going to feature in Klopp's long term plans. Wonder what sort of clean out there will be this summer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

Exciting times await this summer in terms of who goes and who comes in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

I'm impressed that Klopp has came in and basically gave everyone a chance to see what they can do......he didn't bring in any long term players and at this point has seen what his squad can offer. He'll know where he'll need improvements and as others said with a full preseason and new additions I am very confident in a 8+ point improvement next season.

I really do hope we win the EL. Qualifying for the CL could possibly accelerate the progress of our squad by a year assuming CL football and Klopp will be enough to sway some quality players to join......

The points we lost by losing two goal leads (Newcastle, Sunderland, Southampton) literally cost us a top 4 place. Madness.

    --

I can't say that I'm unhappy to see the back of that season. 8th is a disappointingly low finish but we will have far more positive memories of the season due to the cup runs. Wednesday is obviously a massive game, exciting times. Also saw some major positives in how Klopp managed the players - the improvements from some of them were really remarkable.

    --

Also, reckon it was the last time we will see Bogdan, Skrtel and Benteke in a Liverpool jersey. Would expect a bit of a clear out - we have a bloated squad as it is and Klopp will want to add some quality.

As well as those three, Caulker and Enrique, I would expect Ilori, Kent, Dunn, McLaughlin, Teixeira, Yesil, Balotelli, Wisdom and Luis Alberto to all leave. No contracts on the table for Allen and Toure might see them both out the door too, though I'd like them both to stay. Obviously Sakho's situation is up in the air, and I would expect to see improvements brought in for Moreno, Mignolet and some others so they may well depart too.

Hopefully a bit more luck next season will give us a better look at players like Ings, Gomez, Ward, etc.

I was impressed with Brannagan. Very comfortable on the ball, good techique & nice crisp passing.

Leicester win the league by 10 points and it's still 3 points less than Liverpool managed in 2014. That kinda season.

70 million worth of dead wood in this squad. Needs moving on..

Of all the young players Stewart has impressed me most this season.

I know at 22 he is older than most of the young players but to be called back from Swindon Town in league 1 and recover from a knee ligament injury and not look out of place in a top 8 premier league team is impressive.

Everton missed out on champions league with 72 pts, would have got you 2nd this season.

7 more points and we would have finished 4th. Looking at the last 4 games and teams we put out that was certainly achievable without the europa league. But klopp doesn't want 4th, klopp wants to win a trophy, you can't put 4th in a trophy cabinet, there is no medal for the players to cherish.

    It's all or nothing Wednesday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

I must say that I am very satisfied with how Klopp has approached the question of assessing the squad. The decision to not bring in someone over the January window was disappointing at the time, but offers clear benefits at this stage. Everyone in the squad was given a chance and the volume of games has offered Klopp the opportunity to learn a huge amount about what he's got and what they need.

Given he approached things as he did, my suspicion is it won't be quite the radical deck cleaning some people expect. He'll understand very well the perils of changing too many players and I am hopeful the focus will on acquiring two or three quality players who go straight into the first XI rather than more project type nonsense.

The best thing about this season was getting Klopp. Hopefully that will be the 2nd best thing by Thursday morning.

    Can't wait for next season.

1 CM and 1 CF to replace Mario and Benteke and we should have a good options there.

Goalkeeper, a LB and probably a new CB is needed now.

Benteke was rubbish today, he had two left feet.

    He needs to go.

    Good points

Change of manager its like night and day in many respects, Klopp is a mad fan with all that implies, he wants demands more and better, he engages the home crowd and has given all of us hope. This seems to have rubbed off on players with 21% of goals scored this season coming in the last 15 mins and a number of giddy added time winners.

Development of players - Allen, Lucas, Milner, Can and esp Lovren have all come on a bundle having looked somewhere between underwhelming and terrible. While Origi suddenly looks fairly indispensable in Europe. Sturridge, yes I still wonder at times about him but I'll concede he's repaid Klopp's patience and hopefully is now fixed if not a speedy player in the way he was.

The number of youth minutes played - while no one has made themselves an instant undroppable hero, some have shown signs of quality that can be developed and they have generally risen to the occasion when called upon bar Swansea.

Europe - I'm no huge fan of the EL but I'm glad he took it seriously. He knew a sustained league run would be tricky but saw a Cup could be a tonic, a win on Wednesday and we're laughing.

    Bad points

Shoddy work from some important players - Mignolet, Skrtel and Benteke have all shown themselves not be quality that can be built upon. Moreno is a 50/50 for me as well.

Cheap goals conceded - see above really. Too many players at the back letting us down. When the opposition score it's rarely down to a brilliant move like Hazard the other night, its nearly always a stupid error.

I'm delighted it's either Champs League or bust. I think it's ideal for next year.
