Are we doing "a Barcelona" now?

    Can Klopp get any better?

I don't see Benteke fitting in, he needs to be one of a two player forward line and how likely are we to see that? Sturridge, Ings, Origi and Firmino are all more adaptable.

The problem though after 1 season is we will lose a lot of money on him if we sell now and maybe he won't want to leave as no other club will match the wages that he's on.

He has 4 years left on something like 150,000 a year.

We'd need someone like West Ham to take him off our hands!! :)

Klopp on Sevilla winning the EL for the last 2 seasons....

If you won it last year, what does it mean? If you won it two years ago, what does it mean? Nothing.......
'We didn’t play them last year in the final, we didn’t play them two years ago in the final, so it’s the first time they play against us.

How can you not like Jurgen?
Jurgen Klopp interrupted Adam Lallana’s press conference to tease him about Tottenham links before the winger revealed that they are such close neighbours that they can exchange waves at bath-time.

Lallana was mid-sentence in his Europa League final press conference when Klopp burst in for this exchange – as transcribed by the Liverpool Echo:

“What are you doing here?” Klopp asked.

    “Speaking about you!” Lallana said.

“Ask him if he knows when Spurs start pre-season training?” Klopp joked in a reference to recent speculation linking the England international with a summer move to White Hart Lane.

“Too late, we have already spoken about that,” Lallana responded.

“I asked him and he said July 1,” Klopp said before descending into laughter.

“I thought you were being serious,” Lallana insisted.

“Are you crazy!” Klopp added before heading back out the door.
Lallana and Klopp are neighbours in Formby and the England man – named in Roy Hodgson’s 26-man squad on Monday – said: “It is nice actually. He has just got a nice family, nice kids and I see him walking the dogs.

“My little boy (Arthur) when I take him up for a bath, we have the landing and one time he (Klopp) was taking out the bins so I put my lad on the balcony and he was shouting: ‘Klopp’ and giving it the fist pump celebration.

“He just looked at him and gave him a wave. It is funny. Brendan (Rodgers) was my neighbour before. Formby is renowned for players living there. It is a lovely area and very quiet.”

Ronnie Whelan thinks Sevilla will be too strong for Liverpool.

He's based this purely on his opinion of Liverpool's squad being crap rather then looking at where Sevilla are at.

To say that Sevilla are too good for us is ridiculous. We are about on par, I'd give them the edge with the experience they have but I honestly believe we have the better players. We defeated 2nd in the Bundesliga and the 4th team in La Liga to get here, we are more than capable of beating Sevilla.

It would be fitting for a "neutral" to start this one, given the fact we're playing in Switzerland.

Paddy Power have been onto me, they are giving us (Irish Liverpool fans) a fairly generous offer Liverpool to win @8/1. Of course its capped but its like free money right...!!!

Sevilla obviously have cup experience and nous, but I wouldn't say that they are particularly better than Villareal. They'll be high in confidence and a lot more accustomed to the final stage, and that will be the main differential, but to say that they will be too strong for Liverpool, I can't agree with.

I would say that both teams can enter this game at a fairly even level, all circumstances considered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

Sevilla are a great cup team.......but, we have seen that we can be also.....our Cup campaigns this season have been excellent, beaten in a final and knocked out in extra time with a last minute goal in the domestic cups, our EL run has been far tougher than anything Sevilla have faced in their last 3 EL campaigns in terms of opposition.....it'll be a very tough game but we should in no way be afraid of Sevilla even with their excellent record in the EL.

Blast from the past, just saw that Jose Antonio Reyes is still playing for Sevilla. Started 14 games for them this season and 10 sub appearances!!

Sorry that was just league games, he's started 23 in all competitions with 11 sub appearances!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,945 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Gameiro will be the one to keep quiet tomorrow night. He's scored 28 goals this season so far, nearly a third of all Sevilla's goals scored this season.

Can't see too much of an interest in the match to be honest, it's only the Europa and it's been moved from its primetime thursday slot to the midweek graveyard slot.

lads, I know more about Sevilla's, and probably Liverpool's, respective teams than Ronnie Whelan does.

he's in the John Giles section of analysis. he merely talks about what it was like in his day, while throwing in some clichés that he's heard on the grapevine about the teams in questions.

his opinion has no real gravitas anymore.

he's a club legend, but he's bitter, and I'm pretty convinced, doesn't even like football any more.

Just thinking sturridge must have been fit for atleast 3 months in a row now. I'm delighted for him if he can stay fit I'd only swap him for aguero in the league.

    Milner gets it.

    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/222044-we-want-to-change-the-trophy-list-on-the-wall-at-melwood
A wall in the reception at Melwood proudly displays the major trophies amassed by Liverpool to date – and James Milner wants to ensure it must be changed this summer.

With Jordan Henderson only just returning from injury, the No.7 may be tasked with leading the Reds out in Basel tomorrow night as they face Sevilla in the Europa League final.

The prospect of silverware was one of the draws for Milner to join the club last summer, and defeat in the Capital One Cup decider against his former team, Manchester City, has merely increased that desire.

“Ultimately, it’s about winning trophies,” he explains in a special interview with former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann, which is available to watch in full below via LFCTV GO.

“You know that yourself when you finish your career, it’s not about how many times you played in the Champions League – it’s about winning medals and titles.

“We’d like nothing better than to have someone in the Melwood reception over the summer changing the number of trophies won up on the wall.”

I'd take Kane before Aguero, only young yet and he's had two class seasons in a row, injury free too. Aguero is made of glass cotton.

I was unfortunate enough to watch one of the Liverpool pre-season friendlies on a channel with Keys and Gray last August. Both came off as extremely bitter at this stage. Keys reckoned Firmino was a "moneyballs" (not a typo - his actual word) buy, Gray just agreed. I think they're disappointed the whole premiership didn't come out in support of them when they left Sky

From Klopp's first press conference as Liverpool manager.
"If we sit here in four years I think we'll have won one title -- I'm pretty sure. If not, the next one may be in Switzerland."

It only to 7 months to get to Switzerland.

What's going on with Sevilla supporters? They get allocated 10,000 tickets same as us, they have a 42,500 seater home stadium similar enough to us, they are a similar distance away from Basel flight-wise.....yet they return 2,000 of their allocation because they can't sell them??

Why aren't they traveling to support their team?

    Spanish supporters don't travel

I don't understand it. Last year there were over 10K empty seats and about the same the final the year before. I remember going to the Aviva in the 2009 final and the amount of empty seats despite it being an all-Portuguese affair

Maybe English clubs are the exception? I can see now why UEFA are holding it in a small stadium if it never usually fills

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,293 ✭✭✭✭rob316

Number of reasons - Spanish supporters don't really attend away games, unemployment is still really high there and they have a final with Barca next Sunday.
