Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So then United are going to get 4th aren't they? Though Arsenal know how to get 4th.

The good news is one of the "three-quarters of the big four" is going to lose out.

Ter Stegan is for me is more potential. He's only 23 and Barcelona don't use him for their league matches.

    Timo Horn is 22.

    Jack Butland is 23.

It's hard to call. Do you want youth in that position or experience?

Not if City and Arsenal get top 4.

Arsenal and City agree to draw their game and United can't catch them on goal difference!! :pac:

That's giving Arsenal a lot of credit to beat Norwich and whoever else.

Just throwing it out there for discussion because as people say, there doesn't seem to be an obvious goalkeeper so what about Iker Casillas on a two year deal?

34 years of age which isn't old for a keeper. Bags of experience at the highest level. Knows how to command an area.
no. He is about 3 years past his best. Been poor at Port by all accounts as well.

Personally, I'd be all about experience, someone truly tried and tested, but Casillas is a busted flush. I'd be trying to get Diego Lopez off Milan first.

Rodriguez from Fiorentina, or Marchetti from Lazio, maybe? Only seen either a couple of times, but both look more solid than Mig. So does a kebab left on Kevin Street in the rain over night, though.

Lucas Alario of River Plate has been dropping hints in Marca talking about having the Liverpool jersey and playing as Liverpool on FIFA.

Tim Vickery was saying about two months ago Liverpool were in for him and it was looking like a deal was going to be done but 3rd party ownership was holding it up.

Lopez would be good but this club should never do business in Italy again!!

Although thinking about it you could try to make a deal with Lopez and Balotelli switching.

why do we always mount a title challenge when the winner gets a million points?

This seasons been shíte. tough to see leicester win it on less point then we got 13/14.

Can't see the boss looking anywhere but the German leagues which he has knowledge of.

Are we agreeing that the signing committee is dead ? Did he say who has full control and final say ? I would like to see staff changes, especially goalkeeping first. That would be the carrot to attract a good young keeper.

One that can push his career further. A good coach will get the most from a good player. The current one is not helping. Mig was a good keeper but has not evolved since joining. If you were a young keeper, I bet you would look at the staff to support you and not just the manager.

I suppose one who has more to offer than a career of Tranmere Rovers and NEC Breda.

He was promoted from the youth set-up after Mike Kelly got fired with Hodgson as a temporary measure and here we are 4 years later.

We don't need a signing for the ages at GK.

We don't need to break the bank or expend all our energy on it.

The trickiest business this summer is not only finding the requisite quality up front, but convincing them to come and fitting them into the squad.

Any ould duffer will do in goal. They'd have to be seriously ****e not to be a big improvement on Mignolet.

£10-15m on a new keeper and moving Skrtel on will probably be worth 8-10 fewer conceded and 6-9 more points.

The only issue is if Sakho gets a lengthy ban. Then we may well need to look at another CB. They don't need to be a world beater either though.
Once everyone's competent Klopp and the rest of the training staff will have the biggest impact on how good our defence is and only top teams will be of major concern to them in any given game.

They are really quite unadventurous for the mostpart, 42 goals in 35 La Liga games, 11/12 teams have outscored them.

We've scored 58 goals in 34PL (conceded 45) games, we should really be confident of putting a couple past them on Thurs with Sturridge, Coutinho & Lallana in form.

We're now the joint 4th highest scorers in the league :D

We are a worry at the back admittedly but if Lucas is tasked with a 100% DM role we could be ok. I wouldn't be in favour of Allen starting ahead of him, if Škrtel starts I think I might break into tears before kick off.

We missed a great chance this year, we weren't in the right place at the right time to capitalize on poor showings from the top 4.

But it's never tough to see a side with a limited budget maximising their points return. At a time when money is the driver and shaper of the entertainment package we call sport, isn't it great to see a team without money winning the bloody thing?

No. I refuse to be magnanimous in defeat.

For 26 God damn years I've been waiting.

When Leeds won it in 92 I could take it. I could take it. I mean it was only 2 years since we won it last and we had Souness as manager which helped explain our league performance.

Then United happened. Started expanding Old Trafford, commercialisation, getting ahead of the game in the money market. They had Ferguson bullying referees. They were breaking Briitish transfer records with their signings in the 90's.
So yeah I could write off United winning stuff.

Jack Walker bought the league for Blackburn. I could take that. Especially since it was Kenny winning it and winning it at Anfield and stop United from winning it.

Arsenal I could take winning the league. Everyone said Wenger worked with in budgets. No he didn't. He inherited the best back line and goalkeeper in the country, Denis Bergkamp and Ray Parlour in midfield.

He made a killing on Nicolas Anelka and that was it. All his other purchases in todays market would be considered relatively expensive. So I could take Arsenal winning the league cos Wenger inherited 6-7 great players and just had to add to it.

Since that back line and goal keeper retired Wenger has not been able to find 5 players that could play consistently well like that defence hence Arsenal not winning the league since 2004.

Then Chelsea came along with their money. How could we compete? They won a lot of crap by spending a lot of money. Fine. Win sxxt that way, I accept I can't compete. Give yourself a clap on the back you plastic flag waving fans. I'll have the moral high ground.

Then City came along with their money and started doing a Chelsea. Again, fine. We can't compete. Lets hold the moral high ground.

Then we nearly did. Nearly did it. WHY OH WHY WAS BRENDAN RODGERS NOT AS EVIL AS SIMEONE AND THROW THE SECOND BALL ON THE FIELD AFTER GERRARD SLIPPED. Looking back at what Simeone did now the man is an evil genius.

And now Leicester. United floundering, Arsenal being their usual selves for the last 12 years, City and Chelsea at sea and look at us, LOOK AT US!!! The writing was on the wall the last day of the season when we got hammered by Stoke but instead of firing the manager we fire his back room staff, HIS BACK ROOM STAFF!! WHERE IN THE HISTORY OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE HAS A MANAGER GOT AWAY WITH SXXT PERFORMANCES BY ALLOWING HIS BACK ROOM STAFF TO GET FIRED!!! Then we let him spend 32 million on Christian Benteke and start the new season off the way we finished the season before!! It was like we had Bertie Ahern as manager.

    Madness, absolutely madness.

So no, I'm not okay with Leicester winning the league with a team that nearly got relegated last season with a manager who got fired after being beaten by the Faroe Islands.

Leicester will fade away like Leeds United after this. They'll get knocked out of the CL early. Will struggle in the league and Europe because of their squad size. Ranieri wil get fired when their stuck around 17th. The owner will start throwing bad money after bad money trying to recreate the glory of this season and Leicester will find themselves financially screwed.

This was the chance, this was the chance more than 2014! Now City have hired Pep and will give him a sxxt load of money. United are going to hire Mourinho and give him a sxxt load of money. Chelsea have hired Conte and will give him a sxxt load of money.

We need to give Klopp and even bigger sxxt load of money.

That's my Monday rant over with. I need to get coffee.

Am I right in saying we have now dropped 17 or 19 points from winning positions this season? That has us right in the running for the title if our balls were a little bit steelier

Good post to be fair, solid rant for a Monday morning. :)

I am genuinely delighted at the prospect of Leicester winning it, and would much rather them at this stage than Spurs. But either way, we should all take hope from this season. Getting to 80 points over 38 games is something that we control, no - one else does. You reach that point, you'll be in the mix. My attitude is if Leicester can do it, why can't we?

Moreover, We've been playing good football the last few weeks along with securing big wins in Europe over two legs for the first time since Benitez was in charge. The loss of Can, Oirigi and Sakho may sink us against Vilarreal unfortunately - but bottom line is there is plenty of cause for optimism. And if you are a sports fan and can't kick back and enjoy the unbridled madness and loveability of Leicester this year I say be gone your cold heart.

Remember a few years ago when the '3-4 year plan' was all the rage and anyone who said something like what Leicster are doing was impossible?

You don't hear much from the 3-4 year plan lads anymore....or at least not on that topic.

On Sakho, the optimist in me wants to believe the fat burners story but the realist in me can't see past a player who wants to give his all but is frustrated at his niggling injury problems so said his prayers at took his 'Ronnie' brand vitamins to do something about it.

I can understand where you're coming from, even though I've only supported LFC for a fraction of the time you have.

I'm looking at the positive of the situation which is: get your shit together and you can win the league. I think we have a manager now who can do that.

Sure, Leicester's season is incredible but I think Spurs story is probably more relevant to us seeing as there's parallels between the Bale/Suarez sales, influx of new players (some good, some terrible) and the manager upheaval which followed.

I'm hoping we're in a similar spot to Spurs this time next year, though it depends on keeping strikers fit and sorting out the defence*. On a sidenote, its insane how lucky they've been with keeping Kane fit - he's played nearly the same amount of league minutes as our 4 strikers combined

    Kane: 3003 mins

    Benteke: 1288 mins
    Sturridge: 799 mins
    Origi: 670 mins
    Ings: 313 mins

    *by defence, I mean Mignolet.

Villarreal may be out of form, but they got this far and they have been up there in the Spanish League over the entirety of the season. We've just lost a lot of momentum over the past few days so it's really hard to know what will happen. We have every reason to be hopeful, don't get me wrong - but it will be very difficult.

Whenever I'm feeling as pessimistic as that about a European cup tie (happens every time we actually have one) I just close my eyes and remember:

    Djimi Traore, Champions League winner.

Anything is possible at this club. I feel like he isn't mentioned enough here anymore.

Great rant there, but anything this season has taught me is that money is not always the solution. Good management, organisiation, confidene and team spirit can take people a long way.

We have a top class coach now, and there will be transfers in the summer. We have nothing to fear next season.
