Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are the words "Minority" and "Government" not mutually exclusive.........?

Bit like 'Lively Corpse' , 'Acoustic Heavy Metal' ,'Religious Atheist' and "Liquid Solid"
existing as words, but illogical and making no sense whatsoever??

Common across the entire world, and indeed here once upon a time. The Bertie era of near majorities with tiny coalition partners or almost-whipped Independents has spoiled us.

As U say L1011, perhaps Bertie has 'spoiled us', ,but we do things 'differently here...as in probably the highest Home 'ownership' rate in the world.....

Whatever about a large party together with ONE smaller one securing a majority, I think a lot of the FF 'branch root' /dyed in the wool would sooner die than support FG.....nothing to do with the State , or it's citizens, purely Party based considerations, but thank U for Ur comment

The government and Dail Eireann are two separate bodies, albeit the government is drawn from the Oireachtas and is answerable to it. The government is the executive and the Oireachtas is the legislature. The lower house of the Oireachtas is Dail Eireann.

In order to form a government, the Dail must elect a Taoiseach. If the majority of TDs are from one party, their leader will invariably, but not automatically, become Taoiseach. If there is no single party majority but a coalition have a majority and agree to form a government, they will elect the Taoiseach who will appoint Ministers in accordance with the deal and thus the government is formed.

A minority government is one where the Taoiseach and Government are drawn from a party or coalition that does not have a majority, but has the support of another party which votes for that Taoiseach. So a minority government is one where the governing party's support is not sufficient to pass legislation and so they rely upon the other party's support in order to pass legislation, budgets etc.

I thought it was ME who was being given out to, Analyst....and for what it may be worth, I don't find U asking me a Civil question about an election in any way 'uncivil' or 'off topic' in the least

And the answer to Ur question is yes I will be involved..not quite sure HOW yet...it most certainly will NOT be with UP, FG, SF,AAA (formerly the Socialist Party)....I hope AAA/UP etc etc are not disallowed...certainly save a LOT of time writing out the full name!

    Tubbs
