If this isn't a p*ss take (still not convinced)..

OP, a low carb diet works by suppressing appetite hugely.

There is no way in the world I could eat the amount of protein you have listed per day.

If this is your diet then for some reason the appetite suppression is clearly not kicking in for you and you need to cut your intake by at least 50% or start counting calories.

Do people not realise carbs are needed for energy and recovery?

I thought all this no carb dieting was a myth buried deep in 1998

Yes carbs are needed, but no one is talking about no-carbs, except the OP, who has carbs in his anti-carb diet. Even Atkins, doesn't speak of no carbs, but low carbs. In reality, no one knows exactly, for every study there is a study opposing it.

All food is metabolized into glucose, or it is not food. Even eating zero carbs doesn't mean the body is starved of carbohydrate. That said, there is a balance; if I don't eat a small serving of simple carbs daily, my gut does not seem to want to produce the correct amount of serotonin. But otherwise my body seems to do fine converting nice pure veg and oils and fresh lean flesh foods into glucose to attempt to feed my poor insulin-resistant cells. I don't lose weight on it either (despite modest calorie counts overall), but at least I am not giving myself crazy blood sugar numbers. My GP and specialist and I have some interesting theories why, having to do with everything from stomach receptor signaling to gut environment to heredity to possible PCOS. When a low-carb diet with fewer than maintenance calories is not working for weight loss, all bets are off and you need to look to individual factors, alone and in combination.

How good are these keto/paleo diets?

As good as any diet you can follow for a long term.
Important to check with your doctor and keep an eye on cholesterol.

    Usual day as follows:

    Breakfast
3salmon fillets + 1 tub of cream cheese

    Lunch
Chicken stew made from 3 chicken fillets carrots cauliflower and zucchini

    Dinner
2 ribeye steaks with butter sauce onions and 2 fried eggs + table spoon foie gras

    Supper
4egg omelette with peanut butter and peppers
    100gm cheddar

    Snacks
Parma ham, cheese cubes and grapes

Is this a good starting off point for Keeto?

That would be a suitable diet of a professional body builder.

If the poster is asking for advice on their low-carb diet why don't we stick to that instead of taking it off topic to calories and exercise.

Probably because their diet has been ineffective.

If you're looking to drop weight, then they are just another way of controlling calorie intake.

Not for Keto, because it contains too many proteins.

Old thread I know but, speaking of protein, how is it counted ? Say a salmon fillet that weights 100g, this has 25g of protein.

If you are limiting yourself to 120/150g of protein a day is it the raw weight or the nutritional protein value, 25g in the salmon case ?

Not sure what you mean. You just add the total number of grams of protein together for the day.

Weight of the food is not a factor.

    Sorry, didnt explain it well.

My fitness pal lists 100g of salmon fillet as having 25g of protein.

If i want to eat 100g or protein in a day, would it be one 100g salmon fillet or 4 100g salmon fillets ?

So as you say, weight of food isnt a factor, so it would be 400g of salmon to get 100g of protein ?

There's a really good carb counter on the Atkins website that is very helpful when starting off on Keto to get the portion amounts correct. It gives Carbs, Fat and Protein content for various foods.

If you visit the Atkins Uk site and click on support and then Carb Counter.

Been on Keto myself since 25/01 this year and down 14kg. Easiest meal plan i've ever done, no hunger, no cravings and loads of alternative recipes for the stuff i like if I feel like baking or having something sweet. You can even have a glass of wine (as long as it's over 13% alcohol = less sugar) or a G&T and stay in Ketosis.

I'm not sure Olympic athletes would eat that much!! If you really want to shift weight, restricting carbs is the way to go but you only need to pick 2 of the above per day for lunch and dinner. No snacks required, its just habit. Drink water. Trust me thats all you need, breakfast not required apart from a cup of tea or coffee (not latte or capuccino) if you want. You have to get your body to turn to stored fat for energy. You are eating so much it never needs to.
