Demographics of Boards.ie users?

I'm curious as to what the age demographic of users of this site is. Is there a leaning towards 30-40 somethings which may perhaps skew views on certain topics, or is there a broad spectrum of users which gives a balanced view on most topics presented?

I know this poll will only really show After Hours users, which in itself may illustrate a skewed view of sitewide age demographs, but it's worth a look.

So what band do you fall into?

Surprised by the age of users on here. I thought it was mostly college aged up to late twenties on here.

Regardless of age,a sizeable, but significant proportion of after hours posters (and I'm including myself here) are gentlemen who are enthused by a plethora of mind bending drugs,and the odd smattering of churchy cnuts.Agewise i think 20-40 should be an option.

So it seems the 30s club is the largest group of people on here, that is interesting! And there are more people here over 50 than there are under 20.

I suspect if this poll was done in another 5 years, we'd see the average age increase by about 5 years. I'm basing this on nothing more than my own opinion, but I can't imagine boards is constantly drawing in younger members.

Generally speaking....


The men...... 20 to 40...... interests focused on sport, current affairs and politics. Get very defensive and argumentative. Big children at times.


The women...... also 20 to 40..... interests leaning towards parenting, women's health issues, emotions, sharing shopping bargains, fashion and beauty. Very literal. Not great at irony or sarcasm.


It's just a microcosm of typical society.

I first started using boards at 16. Was on it pretty much every day from 2000-2009ish. Then I buggered off and am now 33, only stopping by once every 3 or 4 months or so:(

Back then when boards was mostly gamers who came from ign.ie/quake.ie the userbase very definitely skewed young and male.

I think the younger folk generally just do Facebook and Twitter. And possibly some other stuff that us old folks don't know about. Grindr or whatever.

Hard to do that really unless the users in question want to be identified, and self-identify at that. The poll above allows people anonymously reveal their age. Some people don't like others knowing, for whatever reason!

But I agree, the 70+ could mean we've a 94 year old user and the 19 or under could be a 9 year old!

I can confirm that until this time last year we had a 93 year old user on here. She spent most of her time on Boards reading the Dublin forum.
