The Industrial and Commercial panel elects some Senators. The electorate are TD's, Councillors and some industry representative bodies. So how can the voting tallies say that individual candidates got 80+ thousand votes?

80,000 votes means they got 80 votes.

In the Seanad elections 1 'paper' as they call it translates to 1,000 'votes'. It's to allow for fractions to be used during the count process when distributing votes from eliminated candidates and surplus votes from elected candidates. It's a confusing system.
