Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This game has regret written all over it. With Sturridge we'd have won 2-0.

That's a kick in the nuts.

Cant help but we've shown them too much respect tonight. They're not great.

    Too negative from Klopp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,501 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

They were there for the fcuking taking all game ffs.

Klopp has been excellent but he deserves a bit of stick for this, unless Sturridge is crocked again.

Should have had a striker on earlier

Should have been playing it down into the corner

Forget that, Villareal are a team that warrant support and admiration no matter who they are playing, shouldn't just be support from those wishing Liverpool ill.

Is that typical Villarreal or just a bad night at the office?

Well we had some very good chances, if we don't take them then we can only blame ourselves. At least it is only one goal and we will take them in Anfield :)

This is a reality now, an away goal was there but klopp chose not to go for it.
    It'll cost us.

Selection lost us that. Might be better off having yo go for it next week.

Villarreal realise this is two legged right? Think they were through judging by their celebrations

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,479 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Every fan wanted Sturridge to play, every neutral expected him to play. Villarreal expected him to play. The media expected him to play.
This decision is a bit like bringing Skrtel on at half time against Southampton . Klopp is weird at times.

How are we getting caught on the break in the last minute away from home drawing 0-0

Glad Klopp getting questioned by Macca. Desperate tactics.

Loads of mistakes tbh, thought we got away with it with the Bukambu chance. Bringing on Ibe, sitting Sturridge all look worse now than 20 minutes ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,948 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Can't understand the Ibe substitution, he's been useless.

What a horrible way to lose. Moreno bottled his chance, should've had a penalty with Lallana.

Goal! Goal Villareal! You wait, and if you wait long enough Villareal will strike with the most Villareal goal known to mankind. The football out from the back is sublime, they drew Liverpool into a press, Bruno's ability to work his team out of tight spaces is why he is prized so highly and from there the counterattack is like clockwork, Suarez with the most beautifully deft touch to get the ball out of his feet, he then unselfishly squares it to Adrian to tap into an empty net. On a massive night for the club at El Madrigal it's a fairytale ending, a beautiful ending, a beautiful goal, a beautiful team.

    Ibe really added absolutely nothing.

That Lallana offside call though...that one stings.

Gutting though, Suarez aside, Villarreal were poor throughout.

Suarez MOTM won it for them, may regret playing for a zero-zero now.

He wasn't 30 seconds away from a decent result.

Just a minute before the goal, Milner played it to Lallana on the right, and pointed to the corner (Lallana passed to someone else). That's exactly what we should have been doing.

The players should have realized that the manager was happy with a draw and played it safe.

Brutal to be caught like that, but we were throwing men forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,363 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

If Kolo is your 2nd best available CB, you're always going to be asking for that to happen.

Also, we should've thrown Sturridge on when we saw they were quite vulnerable. Too cautious from Klopp IMO. Didn't react to what was in front of him.

Hopefully we can pull it out next week.

Beautiful AIG. The poem is acceptable on this occasion as its against Liverpool.

    Beautiful

The goal is typical Villareal, some of their play tonight was excellent, their movement off the ball and the unusual angles they play at make them one of the most interesting teams to watch in Europe. They were up against an excellently coached Liverpool side so it's tough, I've seen them put in far more complete performances this season but that was a massive win in so many ways.

Big goal, I'd fancy Villarreal to defend very well again, even at Anfield.

Are people really criticising the DEFENDER who ran the whole pitch and had someone leaning into him for not scoring what would have been a screamer? He did great there imo.

Well you can when he's actually a terrible defender

Yeah, how dare they be happy at a last minute goal.

Last minute of the first leg. There manager was halfway across the pitch ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

As disappointing as it is to be suckerpunched like that, and we are up against it without the away goal, this can certainly be overcome.

We were the better team tonight. I'm not quite sure what Jurgen's reluctance to go for the jugular was in that second half was because Villarreal were there for the taking, but we've seen enough to know we can still get through here.

Not the worlds greatest result but there was a win there for Liverpool if they had pushed for it

Villareal are decent but nothing special, would expect Liverpool to win at Anfield

Now in fairness if it was the other way around people would be going on about Klopp and the passion he shows.

A kick in the bollox to concede that goal but how and ever there is 90 minutes to come.

If we were playing for '' the draw'' then did Klopp forget to tell Moreno?
And how do you end up getting caught on the break in last min with defenders no where to be seeing if you are playing for '' the draw'' . It makes no sense, we dominated most of it and had man on bench who would of taking advantage of the chances we created.

Whenever Moreno is criticised you always go on about how fullbacks aren't meant to defend anymore, how they're suppose to be good attackers and that's what Moreno does well. If that's the case then he should be hitting the target.

His worry was exactly what transpired at that last goal. Sturridge isn't particularly strong pressing the ball (neither is Benteke but I understand that switch) allowing Villareal more space in midfield is a recipe for disaster, that kind of goal is what they thrive on. On top of that playing a false 9 allowed more controlled possession and surely the idea was to unsettle them with movement from deep.
