    Or alternatively:
How are cold sores caught and passed on?
You catch cold sores by being kissed by someone who has an active facial cold sore. This might have happened just the other day – or maybe when you were a child, perhaps by being kissed by a relative.

Oral sex is a common way of passing on cold sores from one person’s mouth to another person’s genitals (genital herpes) – or vice versa.

Sometimes it will be caught on ordinary skin such as the hand or finger, if you kiss an are where there is sore or broken skin which can allow entry.

Cold sores are only caught by direct skin contact with the affected area, not through sharing cups, cutlery, towels, etc. Experts are clear about this, though you may see the opposite being stated on the internet or in leaflets from others.

And/or placebo effect. Vit C and colds another one. Hey great if they work. Placebos can have the same or sometimes better results than some meds.

Placebo effect or not, they work for me. :)

I get them bad (when I get them), but I found something that works for me.

    Alcohol rub works for me.

Wash your hands thoroughly before and after.

Apply the alco rub every 20 - 30 minutes for 1 to 2 hours and then go to Zovirax.

If it forms a blister, burst it asap and use alco rub.

This combination works great for me, 90% of my cold sores are gone within 2 days. Also I've never spread them.
I used to get ones that would be massive and cause my lip to swell.
This has not happened in years.

But washing your hands thoroughly is vital.

Apparently you get them like mad after lip fillers.
I rarely get them, only if I'm beyond run down

I was pretty skeptical of this myself, used to get about two a year reliably, always when I was run-down. Haven't had one in about five years since I started taking L-Lysine supplements daily.

I find nothing beats L-Lysine. I have it all over the place so when I feel one coming on I can take some tabs pretty quick.
Load up on Lysine and don't eat nuts or chocolate when you feel one coming on.

I wouldn't bother with Zovirax or compeed patches any more.
