Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, if you been somewhere, local or foreign and you've gone out of your way to find some good coffee why not share?

    I'll start,

    San Sebastian, Spain

Coffee fix, La brexta, near to the old town.

Not great by international standards, but a cut above the local competition.

Not necessarily strange places but if people are round the Dublin coastline over the summer and fancy a coffee I would recommend:

Bear Market near Blackrock Dart station (think they do Cloudpicker stuff amongst others)

Hatch near Sandycove/Glasthule station (just opened up, serving 3FE)

Two Beans Coffee in Dun Laoghaire (haven't been (bean :)) there in a while but when I was they had Silverskin beans.

Somebody needs to do a dart line coffee stops map :D

Apple Green on the N7 as you are leaving Dublin. Bizarrely good coffee considering it is a petrol station.

Chocolate Brown in Portlaoise - good selection of drinks, decent fare

Cafe Q in Nenagh - just awesome coffee there! Probably one of the best I've had in a cafe in Ireland.

Takk in Manchester - I've never had a flat white as flavorful and exciting to drink, have forever been trying to match it.

Civets 'make' the best beans, apparently.

    I can never confirm that,

    Because.... 'cat' crap.

For Galway City, I'd recommend Urban Grind on Dominic St.. Very nice and they know their stuff in there.

A little further afield, but for Oughterard, Hallorans would be my recommendation.

    Hook and Ladder in Limerick
    or
    Suas in Ennis

Suas won a poll for the best cup of coffee in ireland last year and was in top 10 in irish times

I've had a LOT of coffee in Dublin and the best I've had is from roasted brown in temple bar. The coffee shop itself is very basic but they roast their own in Co. Wicklow afaik.

I was put onto it by Cocu, who brew roasted brown and have baristas trained by the same dude. Cocu's coffee is equally as good if that's handier for you.

    Pudding Row in Easkey, Sligo

    Cafe Rua in Castlebar

Unfortunately I'm stuck in the middle in Ballina, which doesn't have anything great!

Gap coffee Bridgend CO. Donegal near Derry. Had a great cappuccino not normally my drink of choice but fantastic.

    Sorry for slight thread derail.

Has anyone had heart palpitations from too much caffeine? I had, once. No pain, but my heart was doing a drum solo; weird dizzy-type feeling as well.

The Hopsack Heath Food store in The Swan Shopping Centre Rathmines has great coffee. "Art of Coffee" is just across the way if you prefer something more mainstream.

Lots of great places for coffee but most of them not too strange...

I have had coffee in an outdoor onsen (public hot springs in Japan, everybody is naked) before. Coffee was from a can and was terrible but it was definitely strange

I'd say that was more from all the sugar in their coffee rather than the caffeine!!

    Vietnam
Hands down the best coffee ever.
They also do a sweet iced coffee that is beautiful

Smithfield has three speciality coffee shops now - Proper Order, Provender & Family, and (my personal favourite) Urbanity! This time six months ago, it was a bit of a wasteland!

    Pónaire in Newport, Co. Tipperary.

Not exactly true, Third Space, Oscars and Cinnamon have always been there. Across the river is a newer place, Craft Coffee Roasters but I haven't tried that yet.

Not sure if Sakona was opened when you were there. It's right up there with the best I've had anywhere. Guy that owns it was previously a barista champion I believe

Roasted Brown coffee from Thru the Green (coffee drive through run out of a shipping container opposite the central mental hospital!) - makes 8am lectures tolerable

My American friend swears by the coffee in many Mc Donalds. Anyone support that, or compare US to Irish McD coffee?
Same woman couldn't make a cup of t to save her life.

I was quite surprised at the coffee in McDonald's (Ireland). It's a long way from the worst I have ever had.

In fairness, the coffee in McCafe is lovely!

I don't eat McDonald's but given a choice of takeaway coffee, Mc cafe wins every time

McDonald's coffee is probably the best coffee from a chain (vs the likes of garages, convenience stores, etc.) plus it's usually less than half the price of other places. Also, as usual with McDonald's, no matter where you get it you know it'll be consistent!

Osta cafe in Sligo town is amazing- not to be confused with Costa the more expensive and inferior chain coffee shop.

Any Berlin recommendations? I've heard The Barn mentioned, anywhere else?

Now that's really strange considering that Vietnam is known to produce possibly the worst coffee in the world :)

Me too, I thought Vietnam is where all the instant coffee comes from.

There's something to be said for a sweet iced Vietnamese coffee though.

I've had a few iced coffees in Vietnam, coffee poured over whats best described as an icy coconut sorbet/icecream thing, tastes absolutely fabulous.
