Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have a domestic home cleaner and paying her the same rate since 2012

She's never said anything (can speak little English)but should I give her more as we are back to the good times?

How would anyone here know if she deserves it/your can afford it? We pay ours a set rate, our circumstances improved, so she got a bounce in rate..

    Riding tide and all that

If she's doing a good job, just add a few quid. We pay €50 for four hours every second week which we think is fair.

I think it's up to her to set the price of her services, or is she a full time live in maid? If she asks for more I think it's reasonable.

But if not, then why pay more? She seems happy enough to work for you for 4+ years

How much do you pay them now and for how much work?

Thirteen bucks an hour cash into the hand for domestic work is a grand deal and more than a fair wage to be honest. I know Latin American cleaners in London who would bite your f*cking hand off for that. There's agencies here charging ten or twelve pound an hour and how much do you think the cleaner sees of that? Hint: not very much. I wouldn't worry about it.

It's upstarts like you that's making it hard for us to get proper help at all, €40 for 3 hours indeed, does she even take the tiara off when she's scrubbing the floors?

two 'n six a week is sufficient, that has to be dependent on all the fires being lit by 8.00am. They make it up elsewhere anyway, the silver reserves have been depleting noticeably in recent times.....

Just a few little things for the begrudgers to bare in mind:

I'd imagine she has to pay transport costs to and from your home and at an estimate that would be an average of €5-6 down for starters and possibly a fair old and timely walk to and from bus stop etc.

I doubt she gets holiday pay, sick pay, or pay when you go on holidays considering there would be no contract of employment or work security...

Saw someone having a cleaner come to their home every 3rd week for 2 hours at €10.00 per hour and would leave the place absolutely manky.

People actually pay other humans to clean their houses IN IRELAND???? That may be the laziest thing I've ever heard. What size are your houses?

I leave the house at 6 in the morning and get home at 10pm at night. My downtime is valuable to me to perform optimally. I don't believe in wasting that time cleaning so get a cleaner in every second week at €40 for two hours.

    Is she loyal?

    Good time keeper?

    Trustworthy?

Does she do a good job?

Has her work burden increased or decreased over the years?

But most importantly, is she hot/ have big boobs?

The cleaner is seriously good value when someone is working over 50 hours a week.

I would love to get one but the other half won't have it. She says she will do it but we both do it on the weekend when it is rare I get home before 9 at night 5 days a week.

I like to be lazy on the weekend.

Sounds like you're paying her enough to cover the travel expenses and that. My cleaner just left.. 5euro for three hours every Sunday. That's really good money here for that type of work.

No matter how much money I would earn, I would never have someone clean my house.

What sort of a socio economic profile are you from op out of interest? And what do you think has driven the level of success that today you won't clean your own home (or find yourself with no time)? Your own effort?

Cos you might be in for a shock.

Wouldn't worry about a raise as she has probably stolen enough information to steal your identity once she leaves or sell it on. Will be a Nigerian buttercake with a nice mortgage and cc debt in no time ... Not to mention mini buttercakes wearing bits of your clothing

This is a joke , right ? €5 for 3 hrs, "good money for that type of wotk".
She didnt leave soon enough !
My cleaner gets €15 for 3hrs and she moans about that !

Yeah dust and hover and scrub the toilet and wash the floors as you go. Clean as you go just keeps plates clean and clothes on rotation into the washer.

Cleaners are not for tidying, they do proper scrubbing and cleaning. If your free time is worth more to someone than the 12 or 13 euro an hour, then it makes total sense to get a professional in to do that kind of cleaning

How filthy are some of you?clean your house as you go,it takes 20-30 minutes every day or two,and how do some of you leave your house cleaning for once every couple of weeks?that's disgusting?!unless you can legitimately call one part of your house the west or east wing, then your 3 or 4 bedroom is not to big to clean yourself.

    Some people are fcukin deluded

That's great. That's your choice. The op chose differently. Get over it, shouldn't be too hard when on such a high horse.

Op only you can decide what to do. If you feel a raise is warranted then give her a raise.

First of all, its nice that you are considering your cleaner so much, lots of employers treat cleaners/au pairs/housekeepers/babysitters very badly. Secondly, your cleaner more than likely has other jobs like this throughout the week. Some cleaners I know have at least three part time jobs going. I worked as a part time secretary, and I had upgraded my training many times over the years. My wages were €10 per hour in my job in 1999. The cleaner in the office was also paid €10/p.h. If I had been able to get a cleaning job with that wage I would have been delighted!

When I was made redundant at the end of 1999 I was in my 50's and applied for everything and anything, including cleaning jobs and never got anywhere. I don't begrudge anyone a job but I would like to see some fairness in the workplace. Do people really not want to employ middle-aged Irish women anymore? I'll be quiet now, so I will.

How filthy are you if you only clean as you go? Do you never put 2 or 3 hours aside to bleach and disinfect or clean the grout between tiles or steam clean? You must be confusing having a personal slave walk around picking up crisp packets with someone who comes in and actually cleans a house

I clean as I go but dust gathers and floors get dirty. Everyone is different. I simply don't have time to be doing a complete clean considering I also study weekends. As a poster above days the cleaners do a more fuller clean.

Maybe you have plenty of time for cleaning. I don't.
