    hi everyone,
i will be hopefully be starting work in the uk soon. my wages have to be sorted/agreed first. I am hoping to be getting around £40k per annum starting off.

One of my friends who started working in the uk about a month ago is getting around £35k per annum and was paid recently (paid monthly). He said he was charged around £370 tax and £250 national insurance (£620 in total for one month).

I told him that it seems high to me and possibly a mistake was made?

If a mistake wasnt made, will his tax/national insurance be lower for the following month?

Just wondering as I will be asking for more than £40k per annum if this is true.

Sounds right based on these figures

Doesn't take too much effort to find out the various tax bands in the UK.
