Can anyone who has gone through the process advise what is the objective of the meeting with the local supt. And how are these meetings generally run?

Also at what stage does this happen?

The meeting with your local Sergeant and Superintendent is done after you have passed the interview. Garda HRM will send your file to your local Garda station and when they've received it they contact you to arrange a meeting. It's really just to put a face to the person who has applied from their area and to properly begin the vetting process. You'll also be able to ask them any questions about the job aswell if you want. Don't worry, it's not another interview aha!

    Treat it as one.
