    Evening all
Haven't been on my Xbox one for a while now due to a new addition to the family
Anyway, I was hard wired but now this isn't possible due to internal wiring problems
So I tried connecting wirelessly, I have done this before no problem
Now it won't find my router
I tried hard reboot and resetting my router but no joy
Added the router using the add ssid
    And got a message saying
Your security protocol will not work
See Microsoft for help to change settings
Added my router to the help section and nothing there

I'm on Vodafone using a huawei router model hg658c
Any help on this would be great

Maybe lower security settings on your router?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭firestarter51

    How do I do that
And why would it have changed ?

Not an expert by any means but go into your router settings homepage and check your security settings. Maybe change the channel from auto to a low number, 1-6, had a phone that would not find network until I changed it so might work.

It's a shagging hardware problem, needs to go in for repair
That's not a good start, I only just bought 12 months live
Bet this won't be a cheap fix

Yikes. Did you try a wired connection?.

Edit: Nvm see from your OP you can't. I'd want to get it fully updated before going any further. Can you make your smart phone into a mobile hotspot and try to connect?.

I don't have a cable long enough tonight, I will try tomorrow
It's the wireless part that need fixing

Yeah soz edited my post there. There was an update that had people getting the same probs as you so just get it fully updated and try again. I got a long ethernet cable in Argos before if you need to get one.

You have the same router as me... Vodafone? I was having a lot of problems with my broadband and when I rang they lowered the security settings for me. They said I didn't need them as high as they were. Changing the channel on your router only puts you on to a different frequency like changing the station on a radio iykwim

I have the same router from launch day of the Xbox one and it was fine all along both wireless connection and wired
Settings shouldn't change for no reason should they ?

Buy a set of Homeplugs and wire your Xbox to the Router using those.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,382 ✭✭✭firestarter51

Are all the home plugs the same ?

Cheap ones as opposed to the more expensive ones

Now I get you. Not much difference to be honest.

Get these if you need the socket

Get these if you don't need the socket for anything other than the Homeplugs

Can these be plugged into extension lead or does it have to be directly into socket?

Best to plug directly into the socket.

Dashboard will likely look totally different once it's done.

Lads sorry for resurrecting this but I'm having the same problem with this Vodafone router. No issues with Xbox One connecting to Wifi since Christmas and now I switch it on this evening and no way will the Xbox connect to the network.

Don't have a cable long enough to hardwire it and my head is melted here trying to figure out what has changed thats not allowing the Xbox connect to the network.

Any ideas appreciated, I'm out of options here.

Ring Vodafone. I have had numerous problems with Vodafone routers. Was your Xbox working and then just stopped? If not and it hasn't been working it's probably just too old to connect. I know my iPhone 4 wouldn't connect up in my bedroom but when I got an iPhone 6 it would

Xbox has been connected to the router hassle free since Christmas. Been away for a couple of days and turned it on tonight and no way will it connect.

Everything else on my network is connecting just fine so I'm starting to think something has somehow changed on the Xbox that's making it not connect.

Not in the preview programme are you ? Basically bricked mine for the last few days due to a new update.
    Robbed from Reddit...

Hard reset your Xbox. When turning on again, hold down the disc eject and pair button together until you hear a chime.

Should now give you a new menu screen, select reset. You'll then be given another option to reset and keep all games. Just worked for me now, good luck ;)

No, haven't signed up for the preview programme. Is the fix you suggested above only applicable to people having issues with the preview programme or is it something I should try anyway.

Gonna switch it on when I get home and hope it's magically fixed itself.

Just try it anyway. It resets the Xbox like you have just taken it out of the box.

But you'll still have all the games and apps you already had.

Mine also wouldn't connect to Live, but this fixed it.

Cool, if it's not magically fixed itself this evening then I'll try that.

Pissing around with the router settings last night got me nowhere but frustrated.

Come to think of it, my Witcher game saves had been acting funny for a week or so. New saves were coming up as 2014 for some reason so maybe it was losing Internet connection intermittently for those saves.

Either way it's a pain in the arse.
