is tree moving successful

    hi folks,

    we have a lovely big tree out our back, but its in the wrong spot.

    Its one of those tall palm type trees with leaves only at the top.

    How successful are we likely to be if we try move it ?

    The spot it would be moved to would be pretty much the same as far as light etc, its only about 5ft away,

    I presume you have a cordyline australis. A large specimen will be very difficult if not impossible to move - they have a deep root with lots of fibrous offshoots.

    I'd suggest just removing the one you have and planting a new one. They are easy enough to dig out - just cut down to ground level and hack back as much of the root as you can.

    Fire up a picture of the plant/tree, if it is a Cordyline, then transplanting it is not a problem, except your in the wrong season for transplanting.
    The fact the roots are fibrous is a plus when it comes to transplanting, unlike woody type roots.
