Who has the power to decide if these should go in? Councillors based on a vote on a motion brought by one or more of them? or does the council executive determine . Well worth them looking at

What do we know about who pays for the cameras vs who gets the revenue from fines? I suspect that this is a key driver ... (pun intended!)

Sadly the council often creates the conditions which result in driver anger which leads to bad behaviour.

Not an excuse, but remember part blame is down to the lack of action resulting in our roads being clogged in the first place.

Not just that though people break red lights at all times of day they largely are just rushing
    De clog the roads by
Using park and ride to factories on East and big employers eg uni on west . Airport and areas like church or g a a car parks to be used . More school buses ! Most people don't need their cars during day at work better off dropping it on route
Bike schemes in uni GMIT hospitals and big park more factories
These should be done right away

There is definitely need for a camera at Liosban estate entrance.
I see people breaking red lights there just about every day.
The same for lights at Glenanail Drive, those people don't give a **** and will just enter traffic at will it seems.

They are about €35k a year to run alone. They arent cheap at all. €35k could hire a Gardai who could enforce traffic rules. People are doing dangerous things on the road, as they think they can get away with it. If there was actually Gardai enforcing the rules of the road, people obey them. Since they started to enforce the red light rule for cyclists in Dublin. I see less of them breaking red lights

    excerpt:
    Traffic light cameras
    – The average fixed cost per traffic light site was just over £9,200 and average recurrent costs were over
£5,600 per annum for each site
    – 86% of the fixed costs for traffic light cameras were met by local authorities and the police service met
67% of recurrent costs. (Magistrates’ courts accounted for 25% of these recurrent costs.)
    – The average number of traffic light prosecutions per site was 123 with an average cost per prosecution of
£46. (80% of these offences were dealt with by way of fixed penalty.)

    Where's your 35K coming from?

That's from 1996, it's children could be driving by now and get caught breaking a red light
