I saw someone say Van Persie, Evans, Ruud and now De Gea, we attract a certain type of player

    League winners maybe? :pac:

And Mourinho hasn't even kick started the bitter mobile yet. Really can't wait for next season

I'm sure it would but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Premiership is the most difficult top tier league in the world. The competition has never been as tough as it is now. If Mourinho has us holding our own against City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs etc, along with putting the lesser teams to the sword I will be happy.

Expectations for his 2nd year in charge might realistically be a push for the title but certainly not this year imo.

Can't wait to see how we do under Mourinho next season :)

I do agree with you not to get ahead of ourselves but when you look at the teams we are playing catchup to we have to say its not as big a gap as it was when moyes left.

Thats not to say that we have done brilliant its more of a case if the other top clubs coming back to us more then we have caught up with them.

Arsenal are arsenal and always will be arsenal they cant even get jamie vardy over the line and that should be the easiest part of their rebuilding work.

Spurs are probably best placed of all the clubs next season they need to add some experience but have the bones of an excellent squad.

City have what we call a world class manager but he is unproven in england and he has never had to rebuild a club like he needs to at man city even if they sign aubamyan and laporte and stones they still have holes all over the squad with injury prone players they are far from certain.

Chelsea are worse off then us they have lots of work to do aging squad in places that may or may not like the manager.

Liverpool are liverpool they have the messiah but he didnt improve them over 3 quarter's of last season.

Leicester need to hang on to top players and even at that they still have to add and hope that the one season wonders can reproduce the quality of last season.

We have to sort out creativity and get a goal scorer in to help out kids in attack but out of all the squads after spurs we have some of the most potential younger players and the only manager that has won the league more then once in the past decade or more.

    Rise above tbh.

Let the babies have their bottle, a simple smile and wink towards them is much more effective than trying to bite back.

Re next season, I will be happy with a comfortable top 4 finish and a cup.

Speaking of cups, I don't believe anyone has mentioned it but has Jose ever been in the EL?

We will have to be one of the favourites for it next year.

Its a good competition to blood some inexperienced players early in the season.

We should be going all out to win it IMO.

People (myself included tbh) scoffed at the tournament in the past but its an excellent opportunity to get into the CL if the league isn't going according to plan.

Its been too long since we have had a euro final to look forward to aswell.

Getting ahead of myself of course, it could all go completely tits up but as a fan I will be going into next season with more confidence than I've had in a couple of years.

Top 4, a cup and I'll be a very happy man.

I don't believe he has been in it since it has been rebranded as the Europa League, He won the old Uefa Cup the year before he won the CL with Porto

I can see what your saying regarding the potential fragility of our competitors but at least some of them are going to have vastly improved seasons you would have to imagine. Chelsea are definitely not as badly off as it would appear, even taking some of the aging players into account. I can see Conte adding a few decent signings and galvanising that squad. Pep will add plenty of expensive quality to the City squad and if they do not get off to a good start I can see them spending big again in January. Arsenal and Spurs are a bit harder to predict but they will be well in the mix for the top 4 spots at least.

Speaking for myself here of course, but i think it's nigh on impossible to predict next seasons champions. If Jose gets off to a good start and the new signings settle quick then who knows, but winning the league next season would be a monumental achievement. Even Fergie in his prime would be struggling to win a string of premier league titles these days imo.

Fergie would never have let the United team deteriorate like it has. He'd walk the league as it stands. He was winning leagues when the Premiership had 4 of the top 5-6 teams in Europe in it. He won a league when Liverpool had a midfield of MAscherano, Alonso, Gerrard all playing at their peak with the best pure striker in Europe ahead of them...

The man is a genius and somehow still often underrated... and thats coming from a Livedrpool fan.

Disagree last season was exactly the type of year fergie would win a title. We played terrible terrible football but we still only missed out fourth on goal difference of course we never know but in my opinion fergie would of got 20 points extra out of that squad then lvg did easily.

We threw away so many games because we looked like we didnt wanna try that wouodnt of happened with fergie.

A Fergie United team would have won the league last season, I've no doubt in my mind about that and said it to friends throughout last season

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

Bear in mind I've been supporting Utd since around 1990 so have been witness to what Fergie has accomplished. I'm most certainly not underestimating how good Fergie was but the game has changed so much, even in th last 5 years that I would question how well Fergie would handle it. His man management was his biggest strength and nowadays the modern footballer is so wealthy, Molly coddled and shielded by agents etc that I think his style of management might be less effective. Next season, the premier league will have many of the worlds best top tier managers all going head to head against each other with huge financial backing behind them. IMO its hard to see how Fergie would maintain the same level of Utd dominance were he manager today.

I understand this might be a controversial opinion and I have read many excellent counter arguments but even still it's my 2c.

Didn't see many people do that tbh... the VAST majority posted saying "IF" he was guilty of what was alleged (or rumoured to be alleged) then they hope he'd the book thrown at him. People were discussing it, I don't think anyone was in hysteria. It was a HUGE (if in the end seemingly non) story. To think people wouldn't discuss it is naive.

I will say that I do think that soliciting what basically amounts to prostitutes is morally wrong and a pretty horrible thing to do. But thats from my own personal morale viewpoint and is a pretty grey area at the best of times. Also there's not much worse than human trafficing so i'm sure in future DDG will be a lot more careful where he gets the girls for his buddies from going on from here.

If you read the above post you'll see that before we knew the details for the allegations that it was thought DDG used physical threats to force the girl to have sex with his friends. Bangkok said if that was the case that DDG did nothing wrong... you want that guy in your corner??

I don't agree with bangkok's opinion regarding the seriousness of threatening a girl to have sex, but what I'm saying is that I would rather someone be over-defensive of me to the point of stupidity rather than have someone start saying 'if I'm guilty I should go to prison'.

you are right it would be naive to think people wouldn't discuss this but that does not mean they are immune to counter judgement.

some of the language used (even though it was preceded by 'if') was not fair to de gea in my opinion.

But if he was guilty he should... he's not so he obv won't and i don't think its going to cause that much disruption so it was a short lived tempest.

Nobody (bar one or two dopes but there's always those and even those were in other threads) jumped the gun and said he should be hanged. The IF is the most important part of all the posts and i doubt anyone wanted it to be true. Even tho i'm a Liverpool fan and obv would love United to be without their amazing keeper I still wouldn't want him involved in the type of scenario that was rumoured. Its horrific stuff.

I also won't victimize the girl in question as we don't know what she accused him of. We have no record of her statement and regardless of anything relating to DDG i feel for her for being involved with the absolute scum that she was (Torbe). Predators like him belong behind bars and nowhere else.

i wrote approx 10 reply's yesterday to poster's that were saying de gea deserved to be locked up, he was a scumbag, he deserves everything that comes to him, he was cheating on his girlfriend by looking at videos, he was involved in an underage sex prostitution ring and many more.

i was defending the man and after only a small bit of research yesterday that anybody could have done, it was fairly clear de gea had nothing to answer for.

if that makes me an idiot then so be it

It has been absolutely disgusting reading through the victim blaming and abundance of posts downplaying the crimes DDG was alleged to have committed.

There's nothing in it? Really? Threatening to physically hurt an underage trafficked girl unless she had sex with his mates is something that is nothing?

If the alleged is true then DDG is an absolutely toxic individual. I had to laugh at the poster claiming that DDG doesn't seem like the type! As if anyone here knows what any professional footballer is like.

The thing is its people saying they're big fans of a person, but that *IF* some highly unlikely event was to occur, then X or Y should be done to that person. I just hear it voiced by Angry Frank from Harry Enfield.
