Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If a viable device was found in the toilets as reported by Stan Collymore.
One can imagine it was there to be used during the game, and more than one package is also claimed.
This looks really bad at this stage.

I have no idea what you were on about then

I explained it in a post to polomick, or polo mint (sorry not going back to check)

I meant that it isn't particularly important as we will have our game in hand and the only game of actual importance to us today now is the City game

What West Ham or whoever else do is of no consequence really.

Sorry there was confusion, I'd have clarified it for you in the last post if you hadn't gone in two footed on me :)

Fair enough! :) all good in the hood Stringer Bell

Twitter seems to suggest there was a bomb connected to a phone, and that the phone was actually ringing when found. That'd suggest that this is a genuine explosive that just happened to fail. Woah.

NBC commentators saying it's been detonated

NBCSN are saying in their game commentaires that the device has been detonated.

Looks like luck, vigilance and good security work just avoided a massive catastrophe.

Have to give it up to the security staff, once it was reported they didn't hang around emptying the place

For Martial and Schweinsteiger who I presume is present, and if this was a genuine threat then this is the second time in the last 9 months that a game they were at has been a target.

Phone may have been found on gas pipe (complete bs until confirmed)

They changed all the clocks to 4.45 and told everyone there was only 10 minutes left in the game.;)

The authorities, the club, and the everybody involved with the security detail deserve a lot of credit for how this has been handled, and it is a stark warning for future events.

I wonder if this ties in with the email I got at work this week saying that the terror alert in the UK had gone up a level.

Glad everyone made it out safely, excellent work from the emergency services and security to do a mass evacuation so quickly and safely.

Security at the Euros will be off the scales, and most likely with very good reason.

Must be a terrifying experience discovering something like that device.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,852 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

The way the world is going I'm convinced that at some point in the not too distant future anyone going to a match or a mass public event will have similar security screening not totally unlike what we go through at an airport.

Terrifying news. Imagine what could have happen.

Huge well done to the stewards/ security staff for evacuating thousands of people in a couple of minutes

That was clarified and was centred on NI and dissident Republicans. As daft as they are, they aren't going to plant a device in OT where thousands of Irish attend matches.

    Omagh.

At the game today. Was in the megastore when the alert went out. Once code red went out on the tannoys they had everyone outside within a minute. No panic at all, v calm and well managed.
Dissappointing not to have a game to see, but got to tip the hat to the ground staff, who were outstanding in what must have been v difficult circumstances.

But at least it means more time in Bishops

If the device was not found and was attached to a gas pipe and went off, it would of caused massive casualties.

    Arsenal heading for 2nd.

The Tottenham hype has been blinding.

Delivering a pizza is seen as collaborating with British rule to these people. Others set off bombs in Manchester and Warrington and Omagh. To say they wouldn't target somewhere in case there were Irish people present is laughable.

getting back to the football for a sec.... Considering they are missing a few players Swansea look to be giving a very decent account of themselves against city. Hopefully can nick one.

Don't think I'd read too much into the last few games. Spurs were the only team that gave Leicester a scare and they're a good side. It is funny though :D

All the impetus gone from Swansea, holidays are calling. Game over, it was fun while it lasted but for absolute certainty now I am sure Swansea will not win this game

Self inflicted wounds, all year, thrown away every opportunity given to them.

Don't deserve to be in the CL next year, simple as that.
