Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Missed the speech, what he say?

He talked about unconditional support, and thanked the fans for that.

I only caught the very end, at which point he was saying they will win the FA Cup because the fans deserve it more than any other fans.

A standing ovation for LVG from the United fans. They seem to be totally behind him. No chance of him being ousted after that.

    Wanna bet?

He thanked the fans for their support. He said wherever we've gone, whatever the result, the fans have stuck by the team.

Nothing wrong with what he said.

    While being booed!!

Stopped short of saying he was leaving IMO.

I am genuinely curious about this, its as if people have completely forgotten that this "Rooney in midfield" thing has happened before, more than once.

Soccer fans have short term memories,

Smalling? The best central defender at the club by a country mile. The best current English defender.

To be fair his second half of the season has been worryingly poor compared to the first half of the season where he was great.

First half of the season he was been called the best young defender in europe. I dont see that being said anymore.

Dosnt say much about the quality of center backs in england when they only have 3 to choose from.

It was very mixed as he took the mic. He was clever though and instantly thanked the fans for their unconditional support throughout the season. That put a stop to the boos as fans weren't going to boo themselves essentially.
Then went on to say he wants to bring home the bacon for the fans. The man is plain nuts!

Plenty of boos before his speech, chanting during it and a very little said of note, it sounded to me like the speech of a manager that will hopefully soon be gone. I'm still not convinced the board will do it though.

I really despise the likes of ****ing Niall Quinn as a pundit. What is with Sky and BT with their awful pundits

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,755 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Maybe Rooney was playing in midfield before with some resentment as he wanted to play upfront.
Maybe he has his head right now and can play better like he did tonight, we just have to wait and see, at least we will not be dependent on him scoring goals, which was a disaster for the first half of the season.

Would a clean sheet on Saturday count for De Gea?

Sheeves says he got booed, LVG replies fans expectations are too high.. Oh **** right off!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭Quandary

LVG again claiming the fans expectations are too high. Regardless of whether or not Utd win the cup, his position has become untenable.

    "Expectations are too high"
    "Injuries cost us this season"
"We were first when we had no injuries"

Defiant to the end. The last two you can shrug off as just PR stuff I suppose but that first one is just galling.

LVG says United fans have their expectations too high.

Well, he should be sacked for that, it would not be an acceptable attitude if the Brian Coady retired and a new manager said expectations were too high.
Certain teams have certain standards to maintain, we can't accept mediocrity.
Expectations should be to be the best, not saying expectations are too high.

Yep and again blamed injuries and lack of fast players

Didn't see it but apparently this was said as well

"if you had the opportunity, how much further can you take the team?"

    His answer:
"in the future you cannot plan. You can only address the past".

    Hes gone

Unreal comments. A United manager saying we are expecting too much by asking for CL qualification. That's shocking.

No i mean mutv guys were saying it's surprisingly negative.. As if fans should be happy with a win in a dead rubber gamer to secure 5th.

It's worse than Moyes saying United should "aspire to be more like City"

Thank God I was sober or I wouldn't have believed what I just heard.

He's either been told already that he's gone or he's looking for his P45.

Expectations are too high? Expecting to finish 4th best is too high???

F*ck right off Louis. Just do it now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48,990 ✭✭✭✭Lithium93_

I'd say he's been told that his services are surplus to requirements, same for Giggs as well hopefully.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,779 ✭✭✭✭jayo26

Said it again on MUTV high expectations and maybe in future we can challenge again for titles. He has unfinished business :(:(:(:(

I now realise that in expecting Manchester United to challenge at the top of the table my expectations were actually too high. Thanks Louis.

Sweet Jesus will Woodward ever grow a set of balls and sack this spoofer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 577 ✭✭✭Ed The Equalizer

Can't believe he said expectations are "MUCH too high"... that's gotta be the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,755 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

We had some stupid defeats and draws that cost us CL this season.

The thing is I don't think we are far off of being a really good team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,019 ✭✭✭✭adox

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal to BBC Sport: "I like the second half, it's only the last minute I don't like.

"It was an unnecessary goal against us to deny David de Gea the golden glove. It's a pity.

"We played a very good second half against a very defensive opponent.

"We didn’t reach our aim. We have to qualify for the Champions League. We have still the FA Cup final to go. Everyone has to make up his mind at how we have done this season at that time.

"I can only say I have a contract of three years and I want to fulfill that. The transition period is not over yet. I am still the manager."
