I wouldn't take the FA Cup every year for 10 years if it meant we wouldn't win the league in that time.

The FA Cup is now considerably less significant than it was 30 years ago when it was still a consolation prize for not winning the league.

Hopefully we win our first major trophy in three years tomorrow, winning trophies is what matters, not losing a final because you don't like the manager.

De Gea got into the EL squad of the tournament despite only playing 2 games.

When I was posting on RC years ago we had a thread like that. I can't remember the title but it was in one of the general forums and it was given a totally innocuous name that was mad boring so no-one who didn't know would click on it. It was a great refuge from all the dopes that normally post in the match threads.

Memphis clearly has some ability. I know the Dutch league is a bit shyte but a player does simply not do last season what he did without having something.

IMO his confidence is rock bottom at the moment and he has become a point of frustration for alot of people (not without reason of course) which is bound to effect his confidence further.

Memphis started the season brightly and was beginning to forge a decent relationship with Shaw before his injury.

He seemingly has a bit of an attitude problem too which is obviously going to clash with someone as bullish as LVG.

I'd give him another year, hopefully under Jose, before making a final judgement on him.

He is very definitely a confidence player, with a lot of talent. Where people see a player having a sulk, having an attitude problem or not giving a damn I see a fairly insecure person who is operating on zero confidence at this point. Players aren't machines, they are human beings. I'd be firmly of the view that Memphis cares a lot more about his performances (or lack thereof) than any fan does.

What he needs more than anything else is a manager who has confidence in him. The shame is that LVG seems to have given up on him.

Didn't Pepsi sign a 3 year sponsorship deal with UEFA?
They can't have a mention of Coke anywhere.

Whatever the club have decided to do I really hope it isn't dependant on tomorrow's result.

On Memphis, I could actually see him flourishing under Mourhino. I agree his confidence looks completely shot. He needs to be managed properly to get tha best out of him. I think Mourhino would put an arm around him and tell him how great he is etc.

I know they are highly paid professionals and they have to take responsibility for themselves and their performances, and let's face it he's had some shockers but there is no getting away from differs players have different personalities and confidence levels and need to be managed accordingly.

Jose has signed at least 60 agreements at this rate according to the papers

Don't worry folks, he's definitely gone, even if we win the FA Cup. He didn't get us into the top four, he's toast.

Yeah, tbh LVG was right a couple of months ago when he pointed out he had been sacked at least a half dozen times. It might be time to acknowledge the reality - the media know **** all, but have to print something to keep the papers full.

If he wins the FA Cup tomorrow he will be the only manager other than Alex Ferguson to bring a trophy worth mentioning to the club in the past 30 years.

I've no interest in who is coming in other then who is going out, LvG please. No question in my mind he is worse then moyes, can you imagine the up roar after Moyes saying the fans expectations are to high?!!!

Heading into a fourth year of uncertainty with challenging for a league title after the amount of money spent on players and management teams. Lunatic asylum would be better run then this club it seems at times.

He'll also be the only manager to spend how many hundreds of millions in two seasons and bring back one trophy in the whole history of the club maybe even club football... and the fans expectations are to much!!!!

How much did Manchester City spend in the summer of 2015 to win the league cup?

Jose has always wanted the United job, one could see how he always avoided controversy with United and usually had nice things to say.

He has played a long game, which he hopes gets repaid now.

150? Quick Google!!! 200m in LvG first season scrap fourth another couple of tens of millions spent and when the season is down the swanny we get told we expect too much.... That's called a giraffe

Your post came across like we should be thankful that we could be winning the fa cup with him in charge... he needs to be gone asap

    http://en.as.com/en/2016/05/20/football/1463777463_726836.html?omnil=mod-act
In the hours following today’s FA Cup final, Manchester United are set to announce that a three-year deal has been brokered to make José Mourinho the new first team manager. Negotiations between Ed Woodward, the Premier League club’s executive vice-president, and Jorge Mendes, the 53-year-old’s agent, took place weeks ago; however, some uncertainty about the appointment still lingered within the Red Devils’ board room. Nonetheless, the conclusion was eventually made that irrespective of today’s result at Wembley, Louis van Gaal’s tenure has come to an end.

    No DOF role for LVG,
There had been talk of Van Gaal staying on and taking over from David Gill as the club’s sporting director, so as to work side by side with Mourinho. However, in the end it has been decided that the Dutchman will leave. Manchester United failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and the financial implications that will entail, is a fact that is not lost on fans. The poor personal relationships that exist between Van Gaal and the majority of his players only goes to reinforce the decision to cut ties with him.

Its just fact checking. I think the squad is strong enough to do much better than it has under LVG this season. Add a good striker, right winger and a central midfielder to feed them and the team than LVG built could win the PL next season. Might not be LVG managing them though.

A year or two ago, Rodgers said if you spent 100 million in a single transfer window, you needed to be challenging for the title. The simple reality is that you need to spend at least 100 million just to keep up with the big spenders in the EPL. Griezmann would cost at least 60 million. Neymar...over 100. Pogba, close enough to 80 million. These are the players the media connect with United, yet seem to think spending more than 30 million on a player is a big deal. Its not anymore.

The most exciting part if Jose taking over is I can see him doing a massive overhaul if he thinks it's needed, could be a very fun summer with some quality names coming in. Like I could see Griezmann or Pogba signing with Mourinho in charge if we were interested.

Those of you unsure about 'winning the cup and keeping LVG' vs 'losing the cup and losing LVG', stop worrying and freely cheer on the team you love.

If United come out later today playing the most beautiful football ever witnessed by humankind, with a 12-0 scoreline, and LVG takes the FA Cup, fills it with water, turns it into wine, and then does a 'loaves and the fishes' with it and gives all the fans in the stadium a sup...even then, he's gone.

No Top 4 in a season where Chelsea were non-runners, Liverpool were still Liverpool, and our rivals slipped up giving us many opportunities to overtake them...he's gone.

Van Gaal have 27 players in the squad, so he didn't select CBJ in the squad so him giving youth a chance must be myth.

If Rashford is played every game then Van Gaal don't know how to use youngster as he is burning them out.

If Van Gaal drops young player after few games then Van Gaal don't know how to nurture talent. They are on bench as soon as senior players are back.

Amazing how people can twist everything once manager loses the support. No matter how people try to twist, point is youngsters are given chance because our squad is very thin. Our squad is thin because Van Gaal wanted that way to integrate Young players. If not for him we wouldn't have seen Rashford playing for senior team so soon. There are many examples where Manager played midfielder as striker.

Laughable to even use Mcnair to beat the manager when people here lose their **** when Mcnair is started. Only youngsters who weren't given proper chances are Pereira and Januzaj.

Wilson was sent out on loan and before that he played few cameo roles even though we had 4 senior strikers.

It's not possible to give chances to all the youngsters considering it's only 2 years and gave more than 10 young players chances in first team.

Van Gaal should be sacked without any doubt but not giving him credit for giving youngsters a chance is just wrong. Just because he didn't give couple of youngsters fair chance doesn't mean he shouldn't get credit for playing Rashford, Fosu Mensah, CBJ, McNair and many others.

Yeah one decision will undo all the work. People said same when Rooney came back but Rashford still retained his place.

Rashford seems the exception at the moment.

Arguably, Van Gaal hasn't successfully integrated another youth player into the team.

CBJ is part of first team squad. Hard to become key player so quick. Now they are part of squad playing back up role. They are still just 18-20 year old kids.

Is there still a big deal made of Cup Final match day suits? Do United bother or just wear their Club suits?
