Unbelievable week of sport. Everything going well. I'm happy LVG got the trophy, he gets to bow out gracefully.

Unimpressed at the timing of this Mourinho stuff.

Van Gaal has just won us a trophy, yes you read that correctly, but his successor is 'announced' within an hour of him lifting the FA Cup.

As poor as his tenure has been he deserves a bit better.

I'm sure he will be a success at United but I think he'd done all he could at Chelsea. It was the right decision to get rid of him.

Now Jose, give us Mata back. :pac:

Does anyone have a gif of it. On the phone so can't right now

Story you would think is coming from within the club. Wonder if the press were briefed before the match and told to hold their powder til after the game.

The match had barely finished and the story spread like wildfire.

Bearing in mind that we are not in Champions league so it will be harder to attract top top players this Summer, here is the set up I would like to see at start of next season.
    Manager~ Mourinho( for 3 years)
    LVG- Director of F
    Starting team

    De Gea
    Darmian. Smalling. Good Signing. Shaw
    Fosu Mensah
    Mane/Mahrez Herrera Scneiderlin CBJ
    Martial
    Rashford

    Subs- Rooney,Blind,Jones,Mata,Young,Tony V,
    Lingaard,a decent sub keeper etc.
Fosu Mensah might be a stretch at def mid but he has great potential.

Pardew very dignified in press conference. Congratulates United and asks forgiveness for his dance

BBC is a step down from the United site in terms of accepting it's done.

To many places started reporting it at exactly the same time. Its done.

I think your last stint out of the Champions League disproved that. United will always be a big draw. Add in Jose as manager and being out of the Champions League doesn't really matter in terms of attracting big players.

LVG was asked about his future, he refused to comment on it.

I would not ask him that just after he has won. We all know.

Zero doubt it's done now. Scummy move to leak it now whoever did it. Van Gaal should have been gone ages ago but to leak it now when he's sat here facing the media with a trophy in hand is low.

Decision was obviously made to get it out quickly, to avoid any of the "Did he do enough to keep his job" stories. Was never going to be a good time, I guess.

Sky talking about it now, but seem to just be reiterating BBC.

Rumour in Wembley is that Van Gaal will retire and Mourinho will be manager on Monday [@mrdankwalker]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭sigmundv

This Mourinho news follows the trend of "Mourinho is coming" news after a United win, but the difference is that now it's two of BBC's solid sports journalists, Dan Roan and Simon Stone, who put their name behind it, so it seems very credible. I reckon it's done and Mourinho will take over next week.

Plenty of reports saying that Mourhino wants the whole summer at the club to get properly organised for the start of the season.

As happy as I am about it, to not even let Van Gaal have his post game press conference before breaking the story seems a bit classless. You have to believe the story is being fed from Utd directly.

Leaking it less than an hour after Van Gaal's side wins the FA Cup is classless. Especially if he hasn't been told about it.

To be fair it looks like Mendes has done the talking.

If you are talking about me(why not say so if you are) I'm delighted that Mourhino is getting the gig.
I'm speculating but you would have to think that it's Utd that briefed the press with the story and if so, yes it is a bit classless if true.

I don't see the harm in saying that?

I think it's more because of the way it's being reported now. The focus has shifted from what should be a trophy celebration for manager & players to being all about Jose. Let him enjoy the win before questioning him about his job!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

I'll be honest, after his whole "fans have too high expectations", I really don't care if its classless or not. Ain't no negativity stemming from me here tonight.

Jose Mourinho should have been appointed three years ago.

When he was at Chelsea it was reported they wanted Pogba. I am sure Mourinho will want United to bid for him.
I think he will want Griezmann whom Chelsea were said to want last summer. I don't know if it was Jose or Roman who were suppose to want these players.

Next season we have new signing Luke Shaw, well after missing most of the season it will be like a new signing.

I will go with: we will sign Pogba.

Barcelona are set to sign a record shirt deal with Nike which will help finance a new deal for Neymar. So while it was very slim he would sign for United, it is even slimmer than wafer thin now.

A French central defender: Varane or Laporte, Laporte is being linked with Barcelona while Varane is said to be unhappy at lack of playing time.
    Varane would be my choice.

I think Mourinho and United as a combination will negate the fact we have no CL next season.

    I can see Ibrahimovic signing.

Then a right winger who is prolific, yes we would all like Griezmann for there...or Bale but I am very doubtful.

Same thing sort of happened with Moyes, no class in his sacking either.. Had to go to Carrington in the night to avoid the media

Remember how Rio was told he was surplus to requirements.

To be fair, having the clubs class come under scrutiny is as good a way as any to prepare for the imminent arrival of Jose.
