Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What do you think will happen to Ireland if Trump gets elected? Trade agreements with the US, Northern ireland, inversions forced to move back profits to the US? Socially any changes

Probably very little change, he's full of hot air.

If he became President, his advisors won't let him do anything too radical.

Anyway, won't he be too busy fighting that war with Mexico?

Welllllllll I can't see it as a positive for Ireland. He has rightfully banged the drums about US jobs and taxes both of which the US sorely needs so if some sub optimal laws get passed I wouldn't be surprised.
TBH most Irish don't like him and would probably vote to ban him from the country, for PC reasons.

I think he would have a few big impacts if he goes along as planned.

First of all hes against FDI, and we have so many big American mncs it could sting a lot. Thing is I think Clinton has the same thinking, but shes less likey to be extreme.

The other thing is that if his mental economic policys, both tax wise and with chinese trade wars, tank the US economy, we are all screwed.

World War 3 or whatever is unlikely, unless its due to some kind break down within the US, I think Trump is somewhat isolationist as far as I can tell.

Students can wave bye-bye to the J1 visas for one thing, that's already

    https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/immigration-reform
The j-1 visa jobs program for foreign youth will be eliminated and replaced with a resume bank for inner city youth provided to asll corporate subscribers to the J-1 visa program.

And if his other rhetoric is to be believed, you could expect a lot of attempting to get US-owned multinationals out of Ireland as well.

"We’re not going to be losing our companies."

"Our companies are leaving our country rapidly, whether it’s Carrier air conditioning, whether it’s Ford, whether it’s Eaton … Pfizer – great company … they’re going to Ireland and there’s so many more."

“Everyone agrees – Democrat and Republican – that the money should come back.
