    They really really hate them

West ham fans. The small minority that do cause trouble. Pure scum. Shame as they ruined a lovely occasion

They didn't ruin the game, only delayed it thankfully

Is David Sullivan trolling? "Some of our fans won't be able to stay"..lol, maybe they shouldn't have attacked the Utd team bus in that case.

Those comments.....is Sullivan serious? I'm sure all he has to do is open his twitter feed to see the Utd bus isnt ok.

It's always been Boleyn. More often that not Upton Park is used but Boleyn ground is instantly recognised as West Ham to the vast majority of people I'd imagine

I actually think Sullivan has a point, its fairly idiotic for United to be on a bus to the match that late in the evening. Its logistically speaking, poor preparation for any professional team in the run up to a high profile match.

No doubt the victim blaming card will be shown but they have shown little common sense in this situation considering the police presence required for most games in England.

I always call it Upton Park.

The Boleyn Ground sounds too posh for West Ham lol.

I actually think the opposite is true. Most people had never heard "Boleyn Ground" until a month or so ago. I had never heard it in my life until recently and I've been watching football all my life. I'm sure West Ham fans would have known alright but how would anyone else? All media outlets used Upton Park as long as I can remember.

Yeah, cos Man U fans are all whiter than white.

Complete and utter idiots the fans that did it. Sours what should be a celebratory occasion. Not to mention the fact that the game itself won't finish til well after 10 now. But why on earth was the Man U bus so late?

Hold on and I'll ring someone

Obviously not early enough considering the crowds in the streets

Maybe it was early enough not factoring in an attack on the bus.
That was my point in asking you the time. If you don't know well then...

35 odd years watching football this last week is the first time I have heard of Upton Park being called "The Boleyn Ground"

Utd were late for the game in London against Spurs too. Could be a new driver

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,015 ✭✭✭Ludo

Driving the ManU bus past they Boleyn pub at that late hour tonight was utterly STUPID. It is utterly wrong of the fans but that was just asking for trouble. It is like mixing fans and then wondering why there is crowd trouble....it just doesnt happen and anyone could have predicted that driving the ManU team bus along that route at that late time would not end well. They should have been professional and organised this much better.

I really hope Man Utd win this game, partly because the old fella is a West Ham fan and I'd prefer to see them lose, partly because of whats gone on outside the ground and mainly because it could condemn City to 5th.

Not a view shared by Pool fans. Utd to lose, end up in the EL by next Sun evening. Pool in the CL via victory in Basel next week please.

Never ever heard of it.... was always referred to as Upton Park...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Anything from about 90 mins before kick off seems to be the standard protocol for away teams. I'm assuming Utd knew the area was going to be busy but its at that point down to the police to escort the bus and sort out the crowd.

Utd are blameless in this, IMO, plus they had their bus attacked too.

Utd left for London early this morning, pictures on Fb or twitter earlier.

Just stunned at the victim blaming going on here and elsewhere. I'm really having to hold back at some of the other typical victim blaming comparisons here. Fecking unbelievable that.

Maybe the coach driver had never associated that pub with West Ham because of the obscure name?

Upton Park is actually known locally as the Boleyn Ground. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this in the thread so far....

Attacking the bus is ridiculous. There are some amount of clowns that support football teams.

Teddy Sheringham came directly from a Peaky Blinders shoot by the looks of it.

Ideally, this will fire up the United players and we will cruise to a 3-0 victory and then all the players will take the piss out of the West Ham fans at full time.

Realistically, it'll be a dull game and finish 1-1.

The official name is the Boleyn Ground. It is commonly referred to Upton Park but Upton Park will still be there when we move. The Boleyn Ground won't. Your ignorance of the name is your own fault.

I always remember the West Ham ground being described as Upton Park not Boleyn ground!

West Ham should get hammered for their fans behaviour tonight

So? Does that automatically mean that it's their fault this time? They blocked the road for the coach and wouldn't let them though just around the corner from the pitch.

If you think that United being at an opposition ground 4/5 hours before a game like that idiot Sullivan is professional then you know very little about preparation for game.

The scum that attacked and blocked the bus are 100% to blame and anyone saying otherwise is.......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Manutd_4life

I don't know what attacking the United bus achieves. If anything it is has delayed and somewhat ruined the experience for people

    Really?

West Ham co-Chairman David Sullivan speaking to 5 live: "It is depressing really, it will be a late night for our fans and some of them won't be able to stay. I don't understand why United couldn't get here at 4pm. They could have got here early. They knew it would be busy. It's crazy.

"There was congestion in the street and they couldn't get the coach in. There were people around the coach, but there was no attack on the coach.

"If you check the coach there won't be any damage to it.

Hope the fans do not invade the pitch after the final whistle, could lead to a lot more trouble, the owners have begged them not to and have threatened them with a visit to court and closing ceremony being cancelled if things get out of hand tonight.

There's a reason why Green Street was made. Enough real-life examples of scummy fans to make a movie out of it.

Anyone else annoyed at the Boyeln Boys documentary Sky have done? You'd swear they conquered Europe or something. PFM's wet-dream. Dat's Laaandan isnt it

And it's always Upton Park. Less of this Boleyn Ground hipsterness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Theyve got a £500m stadium for free, practically, a nice large fine after tonights antics wouldnt go astray.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

Well, all things considered, this has turned into quite a tedious affair.

The fans' behaviour. Man Utd's logistical preparation. Sky's coverage. And this thread.

Can't pick a winner. Might just flip a coin and hope it explodes and wipes out everything and everyone involved tonight.

Fúck off with your after the fact rationalisation.

Had I said before the game West ham scum fans would attack the united bus I would have been laughed at.

The london met would have approved the route but you know better than them.

They weren't even at the ground 45 minutes before kickoff. That Man U's fault! Unfortunately, a few idiots have taken the spotlight off this fact and some people (like your good self) now seem to think that this delayed the bus.
Once again, the morons that did this are utter scum! Every club has them but they are a minority. Hopefully they were caught, arrested and end up missing the game.

For all those being Utd being late at Spurs into the conversation

James Ducker ‏@TelegraphDucker 4m4 minutes ago

Worth noting that #mufc were late for Spurs mainly because the police directed them down a road with a bridge their coach couldn't fit under

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,388 ✭✭✭✭Jayop

"The coach stopped around 100 yards or so from the ground, and they were hemmed in by West Ham United fans. "

When you're 100m from the ground on time and your bus is blocked and attacked it isn't your fault.

As long as there's no trouble in the ground, there won't be any fine. West Ham can't be expected to police outside the ground, can they? Chelsea didn't get a fine for their fans' racist behaviour in Paris.

    NO.

If you're 100m from the ground well over an hour before the game you're not late. Stop trying to spread the blame here when it absolutely all lies with West Ham fans.
