What vegetables to grow in Aug/Sept

Hi,
Apologies if this/similar question has been asked already. But I plan to move into a new house in July and was hoping to create a vegetable patch in the garden around the August/September time-frame.
Does anyone know why kind of vegetables i could grow around this time ... or is there any website that people use that could explain what should be planted and when?
Total novice gardener here with little or no clue!

Living Off The Splash

As a follow on vegetable I always plant turnips. I will harvest my early potatoes in July and then put turnip seeds straight in to the ground where the potatoes were. In August you should also get in some lettuce in. Prick off the small leaves as they grow. Don't grow Iceberg lettuce. They go slimy in the rain.
