Why would anyone want to go there?

It's a great country to go to if you want experiences you'll never have anywhere else. There are some absolutely amazing sights and most of the people are really welcoming. You need to keep your wits about you alright but you'll come home with memories you'll never forget (even if you want to forget some of them)

Well for me anyway, it would take a huge list of pros to outweigh the con list of 'stinks of sh1t'.

Even for free I wouldn't go. Now If you said China I'm in. Would love to travel into mainland China.

Their hotel looked pretty decent, an escape from all the smells and heat during the day.

I was not in the shot :(

They were checking in with Emirates so I assumed they were off to Dubai.

I've been to India - Calcutta. You can smell the pollution and in the evening when you blow your nose black stuff comes out.

Other than that it's a wonderful country. The people have nothing yet they'd give you the shirt off their back just to get to talk with you and be able to go home to their families and tell them about the person from Ireland they spoke with. And again, have nothing yet are the happiest people I've ever met.

For anyone playing What Were They In Before?
Josephine ( the one with all the shoes) was one of the B&B owners on Daniel & Majella's show recently.

You get the feeling Francis would like to give them tips on how to improve their businesses.

Guess that is how you get Delhi belly.

The talk of the smells is off putting.

I know the heat, smells, poverty etc would be off putting to some but I would endure it without complaint just to experience the country. But I think the fact that they didn't know they were going there,it didnt give them the chance to get in the mindframe.
It's one of those once in a lifetime things.

Hard to avoid someone who had some illness on an RTE show.

Yeah, I would go but only part of an escorted tour, but you would need to be in the mindframe as you say.

I have been and it was an amazing trip - we stayed in delhi and did the day trip to Agra - bloody long day. I organised a walking tour of the back streets and some of the sights and smells would make your eyes water. To be honest though we get more hassle from beggars in Dublin than we did in Delhi - they all tried to sell you something but not begging.

Taj Mahal is amazing - and the programme is right - when you walk through the arch and see it, it really does stop you in your tracks.,

Loving the programme - although he is a bit of a pain. Can't wait to see how they got Delhi belly -we had street food and hotel food, and visited restaurants etc and no bother. Must be the salads etc.

    Watching on +1.
    Beautiful country.

    Great series.

I wouldn't be able for the heat at all. Fair dues to the participants.

And being totally awkward I would get seasick on an elephant's back too!

Anyway, did escorted to Egypt and China and they were amazing trips! Would never see as much doing it otherwise. Just saying like. There are places for DIY and there are places for being escorted for sure.

And the craic with a group is great. You can take it or leave it too.

Caught bits of this , i'm not a PETA guy by a long way but seeing them on elephants and camels irked me a lot. If people saw how they get so docile they wouldn't be so quick to hop up on their backs

Why were they all shocked that their Indian Afternoon Tea was actually Indian?

I think it was because they were expecting it to be the standard English Afternoon tea, tea and cakes and pastries and so on. Francis seemed to believe that's what they were getting.

The kind of Afternoon Tea that you can get in many Irish hotels.... For example

I do like this program, I find i very interesting.

People keep saying india is a once in a lifetime thing. How is it? I've checked flights and they cost 200 euro and surely the accommodation can't be too expensive.

Their experience is a once in a lifetime. Paid for and arranged activities. I'd love it!

Think they paid for this themselves but I'm open to correction.

Yeah, they had to pay for the trip (and convince the Producers they would be entertaining participants)
We are particularly looking for people who have never travelled outside of Ireland, or have very limited travelling experience. Whatever your special reason, convince us why you should be considered for this adventure!
The special price for this unique trip including flights, transfers and accommodation on a B&B basis is €700 per person based on 2 people sharing (single room supplement applies). Booking terms and conditions apply.

Entertaining programme, maybe it put India on some people's radar as a holiday destination.

It seemed to work better than Francis' previous trip across Europe a few years ago. Good viewing figures too so maybe there will be another one to follow.
