Heading to the US in August (honeymoon) and doing some of the South - North Carolina, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Jekyll Island, New Orleans and then Boston. We are food fans and Im a bit of a Chef groupie. Apart from Emeril are there any other celebrity chef restaurants in these areas?

Lady and Sons in Savannah owned and run by Paul Deen is another.

But....you're asking for tourist trap restaurants. More hype than substance in many cases.

Google and Yelp can provide useful info on what's currently good. With Charleston and Savannah, you'll have a fantastic choice.

Recently ate at a.Lure in Savannah. It was fantastic. A Charleston favorite of mine has always been Poogan's Porch. Although, it's been a while. Honestly, I think Atlanta (Kevin Gillespie, Kevin Rathbun,... etc.) beats any of those cities when it comes to food. New Orleans is pretty awesome too, perhaps not as much diversity in choices as Atlanta though.

Boston has The Studio Kitchen, its a restaurant and a live studio where you can buy tickets to be an audience member of a live show.

FYI never attended myself so no idea if its good or not. Also, I don't know who the Celebrity Chefs are.

Just in general, my favorite restaurant in Boston is Toro, I highly recommend http://toro-restaurant.com/boston/

OP, are you flying into Atlanta, or spending any time there? If you are, hit up Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles. It's not exactly fine dining, but it's a real Atlanta institution.

The thing about celebrity chefs in the US, is that the odds of them actually doing the cooking in their own restaurants, is slim to none. It's not like here, where the Kevin Dundon's and the Nevin Maguire's work in their restaurants full time, and they fllit up to RTE once a year to promote their new cook book. Celebrity chefs in the US are in charge of multi million dollar operations, that leave them very little time for actual cooking.

^ spot on ProudDUB. I'd say the majority are never there, or have little involvement. Sometimes they are paid by restaurant groups just for the use of their name. A bit like all those Trump skyscrapers over the years.

Thanks for the info folks. It was just an idea we were mulling over. No wont be going into Atlanta as far as I know - plans could change yet though. Will look up the places you have suggested. And sorry Uncle Moe but no shellfish for us! :)

Not celebrity run but check out Husk in Charleston, think it's voted one of the top restaurants in the States and the Old Pink House in Savanah. Both are amazing places. Reservations essential.

If you're driving down the coast stop in Hilton Head and go to One hot mama's. Think it's run by a winner from Iron Chef. Very casual but some amazing bbq and wings type stuff. Hottest wings I've ever had and one of the nicest. New Orleans hashas so many amazing food options.

Shame you're not going to Atlanta, you could have checked out The Vortex, not exactly 'fine dining' but great food and great fun. It features in Man v Food as one of his favourite haunts from his college days...

I actually tried that 'Double Coronary Bypass Burger' (I wasn't man enough for the triple or quadruple), check out the menu to see what it consists of...

Safe to say on that occasion, food won....

The Quadruple is great craic if there is a gang of you and you are plastered. They'll throw a few fried eggs into it too, if you ask them nicely. :D

A kebab from Abrakebabra at 2am, just hasn't been the same since.

I would struggle with the single one!! Might have to take a look at the itinerary again - Atlanta seems to be where its at! We were looking at our last 4 days in Boston maybe getting a camper van so we could do Maine, Salem etc but again just an idea!

Don't change your plans, just to make room for Atlanta. I used to live there. There are some great restaurants, but over all, there ain't a lot of touristy stuff to see or do, compared to the places mentioned in your original itinerary.

Let me know if you do choose Atlanta. I live here and can offer plenty of advice. Also, plenty of non-food stuff to see/do.
