Hi folks, am looking for recommendations for companies that provided escorted tours to Washington - I will be travelling alone, but don't want to have to fend for myself if I go - is there a service out there where a travel company will arrange everything and provide escorted tours while there (so I'm not alone in a strange country) - never been to the States

Washington is quite easy to get around, most hotels will have a stand with leaflets for various tours and things you can do.. or have a look on Trip Advisor

    Washington?

Do you mean Washington State or Washington DC?

Assuming you mean Washington DC, as people usually forget about the Pacific Northwest :(

Washington DC is a pretty easy city to get around, and I wouldn't feel the need to be on an escorted tour. Is there anything in particular you want to see or have concerns about?

I have visited Washington a number of times but I don't know of any escorted tour that covers just Washington DC. Most tours will be over a week long and cover a few centers. Stein Travel is well established and do a 9 day tour to New York, Niagra and Washington DC. (Frankly if you have never been to the States before I would strongly recommend seeing more than just Washington DC):

If you do make it to Washington on your own, pick a central hotel and plan your days in advance. There is plenty to see and do including great bus tours for visitors. Most tourist spots are easily accessable but if you want to try for the White House East Wing tour you must contact the Irish Embassy in Washington in advance (and hope for the best):

Its usual in american hotels for there to be a rack of brochures and leaflets advertising tourist services, tours are a common one.

There's bound to be many guided tours fitting most budgets. If not ask the concierge, thats just the sort of thing they're there for.
