Win8.1 - Long Time between boot and loading program in Startup

    Hi all,

I have a very strange problem which is driving me nuts. I have a program in my Startup group but most of the time, after the PC boots, the PC waits for over 2 minutes before then running this program. During this time, i can run any program, including the one in the Startup group !!!

Is there any way to see what's happening between successful boot and the loading of the Startup Group (some sort of logging program / utility) ? Or is there a way to see the order in which the Startup Items will load, and to potentially change the running order, which could allow me to see which other item could be holding everything else up ?

You could take a look at Autoruns (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ie/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) though I doubt that will tell you why it's taking so long to start up.

How many applications are in the list?
Try removing all of them and adding something simple like notepad and see if you get the same results. As a work around, you could use an alternative application to launch start up items. WinPatrol seems to get mentioned a good bit but I have never used it before - https://www.winpatrol.com/downloads/wpsetup.exe

Oddly enough that reminded me of something I saw earlier today

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3053711
In Windows 8.1, when the user account name contains the word "user", intermittently you will find the process taskhost.exe keeps consuming high CPU percentage.

    Go figure.

I did quite a few checks tonight. The problem occurs between Windows loading and the loading of the items in the taskbar beside the clock. So in essence, it's before it even hits the startup items.

The PC was just sitting there waiting for something. CPU was at 6%. I'm baffled. Once in 10 times, it might start perfectly

    Championc,
Just wondering if you have tried looking through the MSConfig, and knocked(deselect) out any other programs that might be both consuming both memory (and time), from the Startup tab?
