Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The sit ups come first then push ups. No rest between them, just the time it takes to move from one position to the other.

The length of a beep test, so about 8 min, is the rest you get between the beep and the sit up/push ups.

    Thanks for that.

Run, situps, pushups, obstacle course then push pull. In that order with a 10 min break between run and situps/pushups and then almost 30/40 (or longer) mins break until obstacle course/ push pull

Just wondering if people are scheduled to do their PCT over the next few weeks? Waiting to be called myself so just curious to see if there are dates set.

It's at least three months and you have to repeat the whole section, ie beep, sit ups, push ups.

Are the majority of you all candidates from the May 2017 campaign and still waiting to go to templemore? In stage 2 do they make you resit your aptitude exams, im from the 18' campaign and awaiting stage 2.

Stage 2 is aptitude tests, report writing and job simulation.

Sat physical went well. Id suggest people run the bleep test a few times in the weeks leading up. The wood makes it easier as the energy sapping part stopping turning starting is made easier by the wood.

Would anyone be able to shed some light on what the minimum standard of eyesight required is? They quote it as 6/18 in the info booklet but I'm looking to get it in terms of -1,-2 etc.

    Thanks :)

I’m quite concerned as I can do 15 press ups at a push now, and I need to belt out 22 on the day.
Is there any exercises I should be doing to help or, are ‘press ups’ the only way to practice?
It says there is no time limit, so I can assume you can take a breather midway through in either close to the floor position, or in elevated position once you are in position/stance?
On the sit-ups, I can just about hit 32, but am far from convincing.
I struggle to keep my hands behind the head/ears in the movement, and could do with advice on how to improve.
Thanks folks. Bit freaked by the prospect of the PCT!!

Building your upper body strength in general will help you, bench press..dips..tricep pulls downs etc. But start doing 100 press ups a day in addition too.

The rest position is elevated holding yourself up in a straight line. The longer you hold that the harder it'll be...1/2 secs max before going again...will burn yoir arms out otherwise.

For the sit ups...your hands will have to be on your temples for the physical, they wont accept hands behind your head.

Many thanks for that Strider. Much appreciated regarding the temples too.
We talking 2-3 weeks to see an improvement/meet the standard?

Hey I had my check up yesterday the letter has to say
    (1) the date of your surgery
    (2) if there were any complications
    (3) your eyesight in each eye following an eye sight test carried out at least 6 weeks post surgery
    (4) giving you clearance to take part in all physical activities.
It also has to be signed by the surgeon.
That was what the receptionist told me in the OccupationalHealth in Phoenix Park :)
My check up was great I have better than 20/20 however he said he would email the letter and he hasn’t done so yet so I’m going to get onto him today. Bit annoying!

Has anyone on forum lived away from Ireland in last 5 years? Just regarding vetting, enquired through a local garda, said my vetting may take 6-12 months because I lived in the States for a year, anyone know can this be quickened up at all by any means?

Thanks very much. My eyes are at -2.25 at the minute so I think I'll take your advice and get them looked at asap.

Heard there’s an intake in October , does anyone think if you haven’t your PCT done by now you should forget about being in that intake? Only have PCT left to complete.

Getting an offer right up to the start date is not beyond the realms of possibility but I wouldn't be counting on it, no. It'd be more like a nice surprise.

I’m in the same boat. Just have the fitness to do and was hoping for October but I know it’ll be unlikely. Anyone know when the next I take after October will be?

Going by last year the next intake after oct should be Jan. I wouldn't lose hope for oct yet. If your vetting has been done you could do your PCT on the sat and get an offer that week. It has happened with the last intake.

I just did Stage 2 and feel fairly confident. They mentioned at the presentation our Fitness would probably be Jan/Feb. I have a holiday paid for from 22/JAN-11FEB booked with my girlfriend to Brazil for some time!

Do you think there will be any issue to defer the test if it did fall on those dates??? Anyone have similar story?

Have my physical in two weeks. Wasn’t expecting the date so quickly so i was slacking on training due to holidays and laziness. I did go to a PT for June until the middle of July. I’m grand at the push ups and sit ups I’m a female but I’m really nervous about the beep test that I’m considering resechudling. This isn’t really what I want to do as I’ve been waiting fo so long so I’m undecided. Anyone any advice?

That wouldn't be a reason they'd allow you reschedule for.

Have you practised the beep? What level do you need to get to? I'd be doing some high intensity running intervals about 2min:2min, 3min:3min or 4:4 for as many as you can manage (but at least so you're running time is greater than or equal to the length of your beep test) I'd be running them at or slightly above the highest speed you need to get on the beep, preferably on an incline, til about ten days out from your PCT. I'd be doing that three times a week followed by sit ups and push ups. I'd be doing one long slow run on one other day. And I'd be doing nothing the three days before my test other than eating right, drinking 2-3litres of water and getting enough sleep. In fact I'd start that now.

Adrenaline will get you through an awful lot. It's easier indoors in a hall. If you can, practice. Don't race through the first three levels. Land on the line with the beep. Coffee 30 min before your test. Carb load the day before.

Best of luck. And sure if the worst comes to the worst you can do it again in three months time.

Thanks so much for the advice I’m going to take it all on board. Can you tell me how long the whole day takes for the fitness I’m starting at 9?

It really depends on how many turn up, how many are repeats and where you are in terms of the obstacle course. Should be out by 12:30, maybe 1 - 1:30 at the latest.

You arrive at 9, there's a talk in a lecture hall for about half an hour. Then walk to the sports hall. When I did mine the beeps kicked off around 09:45.

There's about an hour in between the beep and the obstacle.

You wait out in the corridor for the obstacle course til you're called in when the person in front of you is on their last lap. There is no break between obstacle and push pull. In theory it's 4 - 5min per person per second part of the PCT.

Think they just take 40 people per PCT and you are divided into groups of eight for the beep, so that should give you some idea. Best of luck!
