Congrats! That's very short notice for the physical. Did they give you other options or just the one? Best of luck!

Apparently theyre trying to fill spots for every Saturday to try fill the next intake. Not sure if she was refering to the September one or rumoured November one. Just the one option at the time. Im sure if I couldnt make it they'd have made arrangements though

Congrats! I wonder when they'll give out the dates for the physical. I think I was chatting to u in there today! Unfortunately my medical has been deferred :-( I'm hoping this won't delay my process by too much.

Hardly get word before Friday week? Dya think it'd be sept of Nov when we get in?

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭AudiKid

I passed the medical today. It was very straightforward and the medical staff in Garda HQ are really nice.

Full steam ahead now for the fitness test!

I should be fit as a fiddle for the 30th or the 6th.

I've no excuses now, there's no point coming this far and failing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭MondeoMan92

You don't need anything for the medical except to bring glasses if you wear them or have a medical condition. If you do have a condition just bring a note from your docter...ps drink loads of watet before you go..urine samples first thing

I was told when I had the meeting in local station that everything their end was rand and he saw no reason it wouldn't be September once I passed physical but sure we'll see

Have meeting with sergeant tomorrow in Garda station. Anyone who has done this recently.... How formal/informal is it? And what is actually discussed?

I think it varies depending on the sargeant. Mine was fairly informal. He just went over my form b. Asked questions about my hobbies, education, how I think i'll get on down in the college and with taking a pay cut etc.

Depends on the station but most seem fairly laid back, he just went through the form b asked me about my current job, why I wanted to join etc. It was only 15/20 mins

My one was quite formal. Glad I went with jacket and slacks! Full suit for the Super.

Asked about jobs, family, education, periods abroad, why I wanted to be a garda that sort of stuff. Then talked about training post Templemore. Lasted about 15 - 20 min. Interview with Super was actually a lot easier I found. But from what I've heard this is not the norm.

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭MondeoMan92

Seems to be fairly informal with most of em. Just don't go in a tracksuit and have a shave if ye need it. Its more of a formality I think. It's just to match a person to the forms and see what your personality is like

If you fail the medical *Touch wood neither of us do* how many chances do you get at it..? Struggling with sit ups and physio said I have been using my lower back instead of my abs which may take a while to rectify..? Still hitting 30 in a minute however..? Is anyone else suffering with the same issue, as it's common enough with the style press ups we're doing as your foot is hooked..?

Hopefully a few more offers for September come out today

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭AudiKid

One thing I noticed at the medical is, I was given my form when I went in, and the number that the nurse wrote down on it was 40 places higher then my actual OOM.

So for example, if my OOM is 235, my form number was 275.

I can only assume that there are 40 people left from the previous competition? And that's why my number is higher.

I'm beginning to think September is unrealistic for me.

I still have my physical to do, and I have to meet my local Gardai too.

On my medical form I got lower than my oom

I think the number they write is how many they have tested for in the campaign. Just remember just because the number they write might be 200 doesnt mean everyone has passed before you or that those that do pass will pass medical or vetting. I wouldn't rule out September just yet

Well from next week on there's five weeks until the first induction week.

    Anything can happen really.

I thought they were all on Saturdays as well...must be finding it hard to fill the intakes. Maybe more people are failing medicals and physicals than we thought. Wish me luck tomorrow

Fingers crossed for you MondeoMan92 and everyone else doing the physical! You'll be grand, you wont need luck. I'm heading down the country for the weekend but have signed up for a 5k run and a 5k kayak, need to push the training for the last 2 weeks. I want to go down there knowing I'll pass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 235 ✭✭MondeoMan92

I know i've done enough training and then the oul adrenaline should do the rest...best of luck to anyone down over the next while. Ill give you all an update about this time tomorrow

What's everyone's training coming up to there physicals ..?

    For me it's..

Jogging the GAA pitch almost each night..10-12 laps

Did a beep test today using the 21m line on the GAA pitch, got to 6.9

Doing a 5k at least once a week

Doing as many push ups throughout the day ad possible, same as sit ups but my form has been bad thus hurting my lower back so I'm cooling off the sit ups and timing myself once a day with how much I can do in a minute..

Have my physical on the 3rd and have got a PT from today until then...

What's everyone else's progress or progress like..?

Look up 60 sit ups in 60 seconds programme and 100 push ups. Honestly best things for sit ups and push ups.
For the beep test just practice the beep test. It's not a bad idea going for runs, but they don't give you a fair idea if it IMO. No point in being able to pace yourself over a 5 or 10 k run if you can't run the 20 meter before the beep goes.

That's what I found useful anyway.

after months of delays I finally passed the physical this morning too, for anyone looking for info on the beep test which they use it starts at 7 laps for level 1, 8 laps for level 2-3, 9 laps for 4-6 and then 10 laps for level 7! also to anyone worried that they're not quite near the standard for the run if your not a million miles away from the pass the adrenaline and indoor surface should help you burst out the extra laps to pass,, it did for me anyways! best of luck to anyone due to take part in the fitness over the next couple of weeks :)

Struggled with the bleep test from level 7 but the instructor kept pushing me. Obstacle was grand did it in well under 3 mins. Push pull was easy enough. Girls will struggle though or at least they seemed to today. Im off for some mcdonalds to treat myself

It was so tasty...like a little bit of heaven. I've been in my shop 4 and a half years. About 3 and a half too many. 1 week of binging and then back to training like a mad man until I go down
