Yet again Liverpool have been outclassed on a European night.

Klopp's 5th cup final defeat? A specialist in failure.

I cannot take any positives from that game, pitch or sideline. . They got in our face and bossed us. 2nd half of course :((

Say Kloop won't like Sevilla players celebrating there. Not a fan of that sort of thing.

    From the link above.

Liverpool will beat Sevilla in style in Europa League final, says Graeme Souness

"I think they will win it and they will win it with a bit of style - they'll have too much for Sevilla. I know they have done well in this competition, but in Spain you've got three big teams and beyond that you've got a lot of averageness.

"I just think Liverpool will have far too much for them on the night. They will go into the game with their tails up and full of confidence. While you would expect me to back Liverpool, I do try to step back from the association I have with the football club and - without being biased - I think there is only one winner."

I think they will win it and they will win it with a bit of style - they'll have too much for Sevilla.

BTW .I've nothing against Liverpool just highlighting the sheer arrogance of some of the British media in their dismissal of La Liga.

We won't be in it next year. At least that gives LVG and United a slim chance of winning it.

No we won't - Pool didn't qualify for Europe next season, this was their last chance.

Sevilla's away form in the League would say no.

Would be surprised if he doesn't go to a bigger club in the next season or two.

    How about Utd?

Depends what way you look at it, it's probably easier and more beneficial for Sevilla to win the Europa instead of getting 4th in the league

This cnut of a ref should be castrated and I'll gladly volunteer to do it with the burdizzo.

Another ref we win this game.

I can understand dissapointed but that has to be the biggest load of crap posted in any thread... on boards today... childish in the extreme... now pick up your toys..

I can't hide my delight for Sevilla, in comparison to Liverpool they have tiny resources, they work on a shoestring budget and punch well above their weight through the top notch scouting network of Monchi and Unai Emery's excellent coaching team that has taken a team lacking superstars but has made them a collectively strong group. For any football fan, for any romantic you could not help but root for Sevilla tonight, against a goliath that can pay 30 million pound for a striker and leave him on the bench, Sevilla have no such luxury.

For Sevilla this is history, 3 in a row, the first team to do it in Europe since Bayern Munich in the 70's. Unai Emery is the first coach ever to do 3 in a row in Europe. His tactical masterclass in the second half turned this game on its head in a way few believed possible.

For those who had to sit here before the game and at half time and hear these pundits talk up Liverpool to such a degree and talk down Sevilla it is very sweet to see them having to eat crow. I wouldn't hesitate to say that far too many English football fans, journalists and pundits were downright arrogant. My heartfelt congratulations to Sevilla.

Ok I guess by their expectations and standards coming 8th in the league and losing the Europa isn't awful at all and would be ridiculous to suggest.

Given where we were when Klopp came in yes it was. Yes we came 8th but that was also down to resting players for the last number of games. But we have got to 2 finals have a belief coming back in the team (bar the 2nd half of this game) that had been severly lacking for most of last season and up to Christmas in this season. The future is bright.

I hope Liverpool fans and Klopp stick by Moreno after this. He's an extremely talented player and hopefully one under-par performance won't turn the loyal Kop against him.

The tackle on Milner in the air would've been a card in Rugby, never mind soccer.
The blatant handball in the box.
The tackle on Firmino was probably one as well.

We should have had 3 penalties in the first half so even 2-0 at half time it's a different game and potentially 4-0 up. Along with the fact the ref should not have over ruled their offside for their goal as the linesmans flag meant our players stopped and were distracted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,216 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

Klopp has a poor record in finals doesn't he?

Is that really Sevilla's 5th away win all season? Thought I heard the commentator say at one point they had only won 4 games away from home all season, 31 games.

Liverpool didn't bother coming back out for the second half, poor display, midfield was non existent, Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana as they often do just went missing, Milner ran out of steam.

No answer from the sideline either, Sevilla just too good both playing personnel and better coached tonight, Emery earned his money at half time

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

Bullcrap we were just not good enough. Should have made some of of chances in the first count. Ref only has 1 time to make decision. Blaming a ref is just denying what happened

Did Liverpool decide to forget how to play football in the second half to make some point to the ref?

Fair play to Sevilla, to win in Europe 3 seasons in a row is quite an achievement, they deserved it based on that 2nd half display. Liverpool had some game changing decisions go against them in that first half but they were septic in the second, they looked more like a Rogers team than a Klopp team.

Yep, Moreno is a proven winner at this level. Unlike his team mates he is a Europa League winner, scoring a penalty as part of the shootout IIRC.

Liverpool were unlucky with penalty decisions in the first half, but still went in 1-0 up at half-time. They were still in the driving seat.

The second half was just a spectacular collapse. Seville pressed and they just fell apart. At 1-1, they desperately needed somebody to just slow things down, realise that it was still level and they needed to keep the ball, keep their shape, and take away the momentum that Sevilla had. They never did it at all for the entire second half. Never got to grips with Sevilla's energy, never slowed them down, never forced them to do anything differently.

Sevilla can consider themselves lucky to be only one down at half-time, but nobody deserves to win anything, or can call themselves unlucky overall, playing the way Liverpool did in the second half.
