Hi, my partner is an Au Pair from the UK, working in Wicklow. She has been working here for two years and has a PPS number but is looking to set up a bank account. We know that a letter from PPS is sufficient proof of address, however this is not possible because her PPS confirmation letter is to a previous address that neither her nor her former employers live at anymore. She has gone to PPS with all the relevent documentation to request a new letter to be sent out but apparently they do not do this anymore!

Obviously without a bank account she cannot provide a gas/electricity bill as proof of address, and the family she currently works for pay for all of that anyway. We're a bit lost for how to resolve this. She wants to seek a full time job after finishing her year with her current family and needs a bank account to do this - any help would be really useful right now.

How about a letter from the revenue to the new address ?

A letter from her current employer should suffice.

She has tried that Villanous, went to their offices to get it sorted with several legitimate proofs of address and they've said they cannot do it anymore. Crazy bureaucracy!

And garbeth the bank refused to accept that as sufficient.

Was just looking online at this and on BOI website it says to talk to a staff member if you don't have proof of address. So just wait for them to turn up

    Hi Rathmineser,

Thanks for contacting us on Boards.

A letter from Revenue or the Department of Social protection to your partner at her current address will suffice for proof of address when opening an account with us. Other documents we can accept are a current Irish or UK driving license, a current car insurance document, a bank statement or credit card bill (within the last six months) as well as utility bills within the last six months, or a registered tenancy agreement.

Your partner can open a Current Account online here or make an appointment in her local branch here to arrange the account opening.

I hope this helps and please let us know if we can help with anything else.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

You can also set up a credit union account with a letter from the family she lives with, stating that she lives there.

That's what we did. The credit union then sent a statement, with her name and address, which the banks accepted as proof of address.
