After beating a league team in the cup for the first time in ages, it would be a sickener to go out to a non league club (again).
But we're in a good run of form so hopefully we get the job done.

    When's the draw?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 15,694 Mod ✭✭✭✭dfx-

Rovers and Pats are through. Almost inevitable they'll play each other. Sick of the fixture at this point...

Gutless from Bohs last night. Season essentially over at this stage.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Ringmahon Rangers 1 vs 4 Cobh Ramblers
    UCD 3 vs 1 Janesboro
Longford 1 vs 4 Cork City

Good wins for the two first division teams against non league opposition and a comfortable enough win for Cork. With only one match left to go in the round its interesting that there has been no draws so far. Crumlin vs Dundalk takes place on the 30th and I have no idea when the draw for the quarter finals takes place.

    Shamrock Rovers
    Derry City
    St. Patrick's Athletic
    Wexford Youths
    Cobh Ramblers
    UCD
    Cork City
    Dundalk/Crumlin

Cobh or UCD home or away please.

We've been struggling to score for weeks and we put four past Longford tonight. Great to see Ogbene get a run out and his name on the scoresheet as well.

Big wins tonight for Cork City, UCD and Cobh Ramblers, interesting line up for the quarter finals, a Shamrock Rovers/St Patricks - Cork City/Dundalk final at the Aviva would be a good final, but Wexford, Cobh, UCD, Derry, and Crumlin will have something to say about that/

UCD AFC v Crumlin United or Dundalk FC

    Shamrock Rovers v Cork City

St Patrick’s Athletic v Cobh Ramblers

    Wexford Youths v Derry City

Games will take place on the week ending 11 September.

Rovers or City gone anyways is good for the rest.

Well our quarter final could be a massacre.
Here's hoping the likes of McMillan, Finn, Benson take it easy on us.

I'd say Dundalk will be playing the kids in the next two cup games. Giving the lads time off to rest for the league and EL games.

Disaster of a draw for CCFC. Only Derry away is worse. If only we could have got Cobh

When are the ties due to be played?

Sorry - Weekend of Sept 9.

Gyah, really didn't want Derry at home. Can we just re-do the draw until we get something we're all happy with?

not the worst draw in terms of finishing fourth in the league, three of top four in Derry, Dundalk and either Rovers or Cork in the semifinals.

based on the last game in Tallaght, it'll be a dour 0-0 and a replay in Cork.

John Delaney is a bit distracted with Rio at the minute, hence the reason it appears to have been an open draw

Probably the best draw possible for us. Cobh are useful but they're well behind Limerick in the first division and we beat Limerick fairly comfortably on Friday. Shams vs Cork tie of the round. Dundalk shouldn't have much problems getting to the semi-final. Tough draw for wexford but at least they are at home.

Big win for Dundalk tonight against Crumlin United, even with most regulars missing they won 5-0, they are going to have lots of matches for the next three months

It was really a reserve side but some big performances from some players that I didn't expect. I know it was only a Leinster senior side but it looks like we have some very decent cover. Carlton Ubaezuonu and Alan Keane the stand out players

Possibly just gut feeling, but I kind of fancy Pats for this. They are very unpredictable, often look in league games like they have quit on the manager, but every so often they serve up an electrifying performance. They might have another one or two left in them.

FAI Cup Quarter finals this weekend, huge game in Tallaght between Rovers and Cork City would have made a good final should attract a big crowd. Will be interesting to see what Team Dundalk put out against College with Finn Harps on Monday and AZ Alkmaar on Thursday. Predicting the winners in red below, yes Wexford to shock Derry.

    UCD AFC v Dundalk FC

    Shamrock Rovers v Cork City

St Patrick’s Athletic v Cobh Ramblers

    Wexford Youths v Derry City

We should beat Cobh but we have thrown in some shocking performances in the last two weeks so I wouldnt be fully confident but still we should go through. Big tie in Tallaght Cork havent played in a while so should be more rested than Shams but they do have to travel to Tallaght. Could end in a draw tomorrow night with Cork going through. Dundalk will probably but on a reserve team against UCD which will give UCD some hope but Dundalk should still be too good. Derry have been trundling along nicely this season and should go through against Wexford although Wexford do have home advantage.

Three of the matches are on tomorrow night with Shams and Cork on RTE2 at 7 45PM. Our match against Cobh is on Saturday at 4PM.

I think a St Pats v Shamrock Rovers would make a great final in the Aviva, League of Ireland soccer in Dublin needs a boost with the dominance of Dundalk and Cork City at the minute. The lack of marketing of the quarter finals is very disappointing but nothing new.

Wouldn't fancy us against Derry at all, Keegan never puts out a strong team in the cup and we were dreadful against Bohs in the LSC.

Would not fancy Wexford at all. Derry are in great form expect them to win by 2 or 3 if conditions are not bad as Ferrigcarrig is a very open ground.

Had torrential rain here this evening, could still be damp tomorrow.

Today FM just refered to Shams as "cup specialists".

I thought this tag should have died out about 15 years ago no?

0-2 to Cork after 12 mins. 2 lovely goals. Lots of chances so far in a very open game. Could easily be 1-3

Missed the first but that second goal was a stunning effort.

Could be 3-3 now on clear chances. Still 0-2

    Cut to shreds.

Yeah, another lovely goal. Cork look like scoring almost every attack. 0-3

They really have the HD audio out tonight. Some choice chants being picked out on TV.

"Fúck the FAI" being the most recent one.

Yeah. And did they follow that up with "**** RTE" ??? Sounded like it.

Took 40 seconds to blow the Rovers' half time talk out of the water. 0-4, Maguire with his second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

0-5 Maguire hat trick. Woeful defending, woeful keeping.

This is all a bit mad!!

Those interviews with TOD on the sideline...........I would say managers just want to tell him to f off sometimes!!

McLoughlin would have sent off 2 Sligo Rovers players for tackles in tonight's game on his past record in the Showgrounds. He seems to behave on telly.!!

Thought we may have pulled off a Dudelange-esque result tonight but it wasn't to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,424 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

    That was beautiful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,953 ✭✭✭✭Zebra3

Rovers will be disappointed with that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,935 ✭✭✭kksaints

    UCD 0-1 Dundalk
    Shams 0-5 Cork
    Wexford 1-3 Derry

Three away wins tonight. Didn't see that Cork result coming.Thats a seriously impressive result. UCD gave a good account of themselves and Derry came from a goal down against Wexford to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭Alfa Quadrifoglio

Cork City were simply superb tonight, they cut Rovers apart at will and truthfully could have won by more. Sean Maguire got a hat trick and is on fire at the moment, well worth catching the highlights on Soccer Republic because all of Corks goals were top top quality, in particular their third just before Half Time.
Both Cork City and Dundalk are at a different level to the rest of the League of Ireland, its going to be some run in for the League title and we could have a repeat of last years Cup Final.
No surprise that both teams did well in European competition, it took a class side, Genk of Belgium, to knock out Cork and Dundalk are still involved.

I think those wins against Longford and Bray were the confidence boost that was needed for City. We keep playing like this and theres nothing stopping us from getting some silverware at the end of the season.

Looked fantastic tonight from what bits I seen of the match. Keeping the ball down and trying to pass it. Has Caulfield finally taken the leash off?

As long as they don't draw Dundalk in the semi they'd be hot favorites for cup. Even if they do haven beaten Dundalk this season already they'll fancy their chances

fourth goal is probably the worst goal I've seen conceded at Rovers in 20 years. Including 2005 and 2012.

Rovers' defence has had that coming and may well get more of it next week. It took an hour for Bradley to abandon the three at the back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

We looked an awful lot better than most weeks tonight. Danny Furlong on the bench, front line of Paul Murphy, Rox Keenan and Eric Molloy. Worked very well, happy with the performance overall. Lee Grace was fantastic as always.

Derry were alright, not one of McNamee's best performances. Ben Doherty was great going forward but the whole Derry back four was suspect defensively. Bit annoyed at the smart-arse wind-up merchant minority of Derry fans tonight. They were having a go at a very nice old guy who didn't deserve a bit of it. Used to think very highly of Derry fans as a whole.

Molloy is an important player for Wexford. Aaron McEneff has hit great form looks a very good player.
