Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Vs

    NewCrystalPalaceBadge.jpg

After their midweek heroics of securing the coveted fifth place spot in the Barclays Premier League, Louis VanGall's red army have made their way to London to face the mighty Crystal Palace, led by the majestic Alaín Pardiola.

A win for United would tie them with cup specialists Arsenal on 12 titles.

The sides last met in April with United securing a 2-0 victory at home but with a manager seemingly devoid of how to use the players at his disposal the outcome is anyone's guess.

United will be buoyed by the availability of talismanic midfield maestro Marouane Fellaini who was instrumental in the teams run to the final.

Even though a United fan thinks he is literally worse than Hitler, his presence would add steel to the flimsy United midfield.

Many fans are pinning their hopes on £600,000,000 wúnderkínd Anthony Martial to lead from the front and with the emergence of Marcus "Rashers" Rashford as a goal scoring threat the Crystal Palace defence will certainly have their work cut out for them.

Arsenal old boy Emmanuel "show me the money" Adebayor could pose problems for the somewhat shaky United defense and former United player Wilfried Zaha will be eager to show that he should not have been sold just because he boned David Moyes' daughter. Attacker Yannick Boalise has been in fine form all season and will also be a threat. With LVG's peculiar brand of defending a one nil lead no matter how much time is left on the clock this could be a real ding dong affair.

Here on Boards.ie the expectation is that Crystal Palace fans will be out in their droves despite suffering a crushing defeat in Switzerland mid week.

Its surely going to be a battle for the ages.

Some questions that may be answered include

Will Bangkok ever give Fellaini any credit?

Will the prosesh end United's 3 year trophy drought?

Did Mick manage to change the oil in the positivity tractor?

Will this be LVG's last game in charge?

Tune in tomorrow evening to find out the answers to these and more!

Well hats off I suppose. That's one of the more entertaining match thread opening posts I've read this year. You almost managed to make a United match sound interesting!

Palace to sneak a 1-0 win despite Utd dominating....

Then it's off to a debauched night of Pardiola carnage at Crystals

Disgusted I'm working for this. Had booked it off weeks ago but staff shortages meant I got bribed with Ireland vs Italy tickets to work. Still have horrible memories of our last finals against Chelsea and against Arsenal especially when United absolutely peppered the goal all game. Would love to have been in Wembley for this.

Realised I've just watched one FA Cup final in the past 6 or 7 years. Used to be essential viewing back in the day no matter who was in the final. Now it's just so easy to give it a skip at the end of a long season.

If we play like we have played for most of the season I expect this to be the most boring final in recent memory.

Didn't know Pardew was a fan of two upfront.

Would imagine that despite missing the last three games Fellaini is a cert to return to the midfield. Palace are quite dangerous from set-plays so he's worth having for his aerial presence alone. Although in fairness to him he has played a big role in the previous two rounds and deserves a place on merit.

The left-back position is harder to call, Rojo has been horrendous since his return from injury but CBJ doesn't instill huge confidence either.

Can see it being a tight game with Palace scoring first but United coming back to win via a deflected Fellaini effort and a scuffed Rooney shot which ricochets off Scott Dann, Wilfried Zaha and Dwight Gayle before nestling in the bottom corner.

CBJ not included in the squad.

Van Gaal trolling us Utd fans to the end.

    lol!!

See this as being a pure boring affair but hopefully United will nick it and we'll get that winning feeling back. Can'e believe it's been so long since our last FA cup win. This is our longest cup drought since 63-77.

    PROBABLE LINE-UPS

Manchester United (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Rojo/Borthwick-Jackson; Carrick, Fellaini; Mata, Rooney, Martial; Rashford

Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Hennessey; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare; Cabaye, Jedinak; Zaha, Puncheon, Bolasie; Wickham

Louis van Gaal could become the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win a trophy for Manchester United on Saturday, and while the Dutchman has always acknowledged Champions League qualification would have been more important to the club, he believes silverware is a reward his players deserve.

“Silverware is always important, because it is an exciting moment to be close to winning a trophy,” Van Gaal said. “A qualification is not a title but a Cup win would be. The players can look at the Cup and hold it – it would be an achievement – but at the moment we are only close and close is not enough. For Manchester United this would be a big title, I think, the first Cup win since 2004, but we still have to beat Crystal Palace to win it and finals can never be predicted.”

Pardew expects to sign a new contract at Palace before the final, with the club having been suitably impressed with how the season has panned out despite winning just two league games after December, against Norwich City and Stoke City. They only secured their top-flight status in the penultimate game, but being 90 minutes away from winning their first major silverware has convinced the board of Pardew’s long-term suitability.

He has been handed a further fillip with the return to contention of Bakary Sako, ensuring he has a full complement to choose from other than Joe Ledley.

Palace’s record against United is dismal, though. They have beaten them just once since 1989, and that was in a League Cup game. In the previous six meetings between the two clubs, United have won five, with this season’s goalless draw at Selhurst Park the single anomaly.

Let's hope for a nice clean game with an early Palace goal to draw out the Liverpool fans followed by a goal from the best player wearing a red jersey in the league Anthony Martial then a 93rd minute elbowed winner from God himself
