The big one , the hardest stage yet and in the Dolomites …with some very high mountain passes not least the Passo Giau which is probably the hardest climb in this year’s Giro.

    PW_T14_S05_Giau_alt.jpg

Not to mention the first 94 KM is pure climbing with four more climbs before the Passo Giau and then finally the Passo Valparola

    PW_T14_S06_Valparola-1.jpg

What can we expect from the favourites and who will be in the breakaway..I feel if you can survive the first mega climb in the breakaway and with a good enough lead then can go all the way as GC men will be measuring their efforts given the difficulty of the stage and the mountain TT to come on Sunday

And if its like today many riders will be dropped and there will be riders all over the road as the breakaway fights to go clear

As for the favourites….seems still to be a fight between Nibali & Valverde for me…other top GC guys I think will fight for the last step on the podium unless one of these 2 have a nightmare day

    Nicolas Roche's Diary : http://www.independent.ie/sport/other-sports/cycling/nicolas-roche-weve-reached-our-new-goal-but-therell-be-more-chances-to-come-34734236.html

So he eased up yesterday when peloton put hammer down as only staying in the peloton as grupetto too slow and wanted to get home quicker

Deignan & Boswell eased up completely when not in the break ..maybe he should have done the same ...both of these riders could be alot fresher today

Wondered if SKY with Nieve will be going for KOM jersey and Young riders jersey with Henao now ...means NIeve will have to eb in nearly every break and riders will have to protect Henao....Or maybe a few stage wins is more prestigious for SKY

Moviestar have strong riders in the breakaway for a Valverde attack later on. Surprised Astana didn't get many more in although I think the GC riders might hold themselves for tomorrow.

Is this the route they were clearing snow off a couple of days ago?

Remember a couple of years ago Nibali really excelled in the cold.

Plaza off the front and 8.35 gap back to the peleton so the break is starting to break up now...

'Strava is nice, it's grand, but it destroys a club run.'

Sean Kelly sums up one the great first world cycling problems of the day.
I couldn't agree more with him. Spot on.

Lampre will need to bring in a few more lads if Contador is to sign I'd say.

Well, there goes his strava record so!
Now it's time to see what Roche has in the bag. Priedler is a dark horse I think

Weird. lost lots of time in 1km, then opened up another 30 seconds to bring the gap back to 1min.

    Tough climb.
