Im considering doing this - looks like a tough route.

Did it last year. A couple of drags on it but nothing to bad.The wind didn't help. That Strava profile makes it look like a TT across the Wicklow mountains.

The entries have started to come in for this on June 11th; we can establish a start-list and prize-list once we finalize the start-list by 9pm on the Friday 10th; we prefer pre-entry to allow us run a smoother event on the day. Link to entry posted above in the thread.

Same route as last year - tough but very fair and hopefully the weather will behave.

    Route Preview:

The 25.6 km route begins 1km south of Kilcullen town on the old N78 (R418) Athy Rd. After a slightly downhill start of 2km, the road swings slightly right to hit the first challenge at Hacklow, with a ramp of 600m length reaching a false flat that opens up to the view of South Kildare. There follows a very fast and very straight downhill of 6km through Ballyshannon Crossroads where the speeds will surely be above 60kmh. Looming on the horizon is the second ramp at Rathsillagh which appears more vertiginous that in reality and where the power in the big ring will get you over the max 8% near the top. 200m after the summit is a very sharp, almost blind left hander on to the Narraghmore Road which will be well flagged and marshalled and on to the section of the course that may well decide the final standings. The 6km stretch here heading south-east is constantly rolling on a wide but sheltered route up to Narraghmore Village with its 6-cross roads. There are some small speed ramps at the top but they can be taken safely at pace. There follows the next fast downhill section through Pike Bridge at Crookstown/Millview Athletics Ground, where for 200m the road crosses a former bog and the road contains some small bumps and rolls - very much like the famous bog-road section in Bohermeen - though much shorter. After this, riders hit a motorway over-pass where cross-winds are certain to be significant. The gentle left-hander on to the final 9km stretch is onto the old N9 with hard shoulder most of the way. It does feature some more gentle rolls with the most significant at Kilsaran 4km from the finish. As competitors speed past the famous tower of Old Kilcullen, the final 500m curves gently to the left up one final drag to the finish line 300m from the T-junction with the R418, just around the corner from the start.

Thinking about going to this. Anyone who's been to it before, or indeed other open TT's, is everyone usually on full TT bikes with disc wheels and aero helmets, or is there a healthy mix of those and people on regular road bikes with clip on aero bars?

There was a good mix last year; plenty of specialists but a number on road bikes too. The course rolls a bit so the road bike is less of a disadvantage on this route when compared with many others.

Entries continuing to come in for this event: closing on-line entries at 9pm Friday and a start-list will be posted some time later on Friday so as to give riders an idea of start-times. The actual start-line is nearly 3km from the centre on the Athy Rd. so please remember to sign-on in Kilcullen Community Centre on the day also as per usual before 9:30 am with first rider off at 10.01. Weather is changeable for the weekend but a good field of entrants is already building.

Ah Lennymc! You know plenty bout organising these things in fairness.
The pre-entry saves saves huge time on the morning and with a published start list gives people a better idea of the schedule and guarantees a prize fund. Great entry so far. Lots of interest from the 4 corners and beyond.

Looking forward to it (in as much as you can look forward to 26k flat out on the instrument of torture that is my tt bike)

many thanks to naas cc for a really well run event. Lots of marshalls, roads marked, they even kept the rain away!!

Well done Naas CC. Great event as always. Great cover by the marshalls where needed and a nice spread put on afterwards. That vanilla milk hit the spot.:)

    ^^^^
    +1

Very happy with my effort, had a bit of a hairy moment with a tractor and trailer, maybe lost a little time but straightforward after that if painful.

Just over 41 minutes for me, which is better than I'd hoped but fairly pedestrian compared to the winner's ( Ian Richardson) sub 33.....

Thanks Naas. That was really a cracking TT course. Well Marshalled and nice atmosphere. Will you post the official timings? After self annihilation and flagellation by doing the TT, I think some public humiliation would cap off the triad of pain.

I overheard some of the Naas lads chatting..something about 'No Drogheda rule applies...' or something to that effect. I'd fight that stuff if I were you. :D

Some time set by 1st place. I'll wait for the official times, my Garmin said 40.34, Strava says 40.40. Happy enough that time, it's 4 minutes faster than I managed last year.

Good to see you today Lenny. ;)

Results are being processed and the full list will appear here, on club Facebook, event page and Sticky Bottle later today.
Glad you liked the test- it is a good route and quite hard
