Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Who's commentating & co commentating on the Ger Ukr game?

Punditry Bingo: Stephen Hunt compares The Germans to a machine.

Probably the best bit so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,665 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Kenny Cunninghams laugh is like mortar fire that's getting too close. Hunt looked terrified.

    hahahaHaHaHAHAHAAH.

Whatever language Kerr was speaking there was fairly far from Swedish I'd imagine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,665 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Brian Kerr busy spilling out random reminiscences of World Cup 98

"....took me hours to get there. Spent ages stuck behind a Citroën on some ring road, the licence plate number was 345BZM. Reminded me of the time I was bringing Richard Dunne to an underage tournament in me car and he wanted me to stop off and buy him 345 sausage rolls..."

I must say the people tv3 have heading their programmes and the pundits are the worst I've come across,I won't be watching again that's for sure
Just watched Rte highlight show and that's worse, cunningly and hunt are ****ing muppets and words fail me with the presenters

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 Eurocodus

RTE doing a reasonable job with the exception of the highlights programme. A children's television presenter gives insight.

TV3 with Lennon and Souness: OK
TV3 with Byrne and McShane : the pits

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

I thought Emma Byrne and Paul McShane did a grand job. I wish TV3 would persist with the genetic English commentary feed though.

Thought Byrne was alright, McShane seemed a bit nervous might get better after he's done a few shows and settled in

They offered nothing insightful nothing different at all just stock cardboard cut out answers. I also thought Byrne's analysis of the goal and the goalkeepers role was surprisingly poor considering she is a goalkeeper herself.
    Truly awful.

Liking Keith Andrews commentary, looks like we might have a successor to Brian Kerr.

Duff has also been brilliant to listen to, its nice to hear from a modern irish player who has played at the absolute top level.

Actually looking forward to Joey Barton whenever he is on.

Agreed think Andrews is very good, very like Kerr just says what he's thinking and doesn't use all the usual cliches

If Spain v Czech is a 2pm kick-off, why is TV3 coverage starting at 12.30?

Bellamy on ITV for the Spain games, he's generally quite good you do have to listen to Ian Wright though :(

Gerry Armstrong on TV3? You win this one, Dennis.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭smurfs5

Dave McIntyre & Gerry Armstrong on commentary. Finally, TV3 give us a good commentary team who are good at their roles, have clearly done their research and are somewhat knowledgeable about the game. McIntyre describes things well and has a good turn of phrase. Armstrong co-commentates on La Liga for Sky so can offer some good insight on the Spanish players and is an experienced co-com. Well played, TV3. Now if you could just sack Trevor Welch and Keith Andrews.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,238 ✭✭✭✭Diabhal Beag

McIntyre does GAA and Heineken Cup for Newstalk too IIRC. Just a talented commentator in an era of Trevor Welch still being employed.

Is this TV3's own team or is it comng from UEFA feed?

Watching the Spain Czech game on an ESPN stream, it's cringeworthy.

It's TV3's own team. McIntyre is there for them and Newstalk. Armstrong is there for TV3 and the BBC.

Think they have McIntyre & Kevin Kilbane lined up for a few games which should be a good listen. Still switching over when I hear Welch or Andrews.

Does anyone know the tune they play on RTE on their coverage, usually during the intro, and at the end?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21 Eurocodus

Looking at RTE player, Cool Running has come up for five seconds 10 times. RTE, what are you doing. Have restarted twice.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 612 ✭✭✭smurfs5

Lineker to Shearer: Any Irish in you, Alan?
Shearer (wearing a white shirt and black trousers) : Love a pint of Guinness if that counts.
Lineker : You didn't have to come dressed as one 😂

    Love it!

I'm over here so watching it on US TV. Gerard Pikey heading in the winner was a commentary highlight.

He actually seems to actively play the role of leprechaun.

Vialli on the BBC coverage, man is an absolute legend, and a fantastic understated pundit. Should be on TV more often. Oh and I love the BBC version of La Foule as their title music.

    Worst football commentator on earth.

Some are moronic, cliché ridden or just plain hard to listen to; Tommy Smyth is like GBH being inflicted on your senses. How this man gets to talk aloud for a living is akin to a crime against humanity. The thing that really grinds my gears the most is that he actually has a good turn of phrase. But what good is it being put to use by the human voice equivalent of nails on a chalkboard?

    The worst.

Kenny Cunningham after cutting poor oul Aidan Power down there tonight.....Power saying Iniesta 'lumped' the ball into Pique for Spanish goal....to be fair Iniesta doesn't do 'lump' the ball!

You'd nearly feel sorry for Souness being on TV 3 except for the money he must be making to be the top man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,221 ✭✭✭✭Grandeeod

    ****ing TV3 player is CRAP!

But McShane would probably say its great.

    (Paraphrasing....)

Tommy Martin: Shane, what does Martin O'Neill do on Saturday now that Walters is likely to miss out?

    McShane: Errrr I dunno.

    Quality foresight and analysis :pac:

Watching in Germany on German TV.

I'd even take...shudder...ITV at this stage.
