Ha I would. But my cycles haven't returned and I'm probably infertile anyway and we can't afford it and managing a newborn with twin toddlers and a house being built would be mental. But outside of that, I'd actually love to go again.

Is anyone trying for another baby? We have started, tis not easy!

Not yet. Timing isn't right for us to have another really before she turns 2. My brother is getting married in Vancouver next summer and I don't want to travel with an 18 month old and a newborn. Wouldn't mind being early pregnant at that stage or starting to try at that time.
We were trying 7 months for this little lady and it'd be Murphy's Law we'd conceive straight away if I started trying now.
Best of luck green, now your body knows what to do, it might happen quicker this time. My fingers are crossed for you.

If tango did it so can I! Hopefully!!! Ha!

Fits I remember you from your kantava days, we were just about to embark on the same road as you but we were ridiculously lucky that it happened just before we started.

Caitriona, yes we were spd buddies and I wont ever forget that, turning over in bed was agony not to mind every other movement! But I want another eventually and I think I would prefer to just get it done, I think! Are we guaranteed.spd again or no?must look that up!

All the rest if ye, thanks for your messages of luck, even if ye think I am a nutter!!! God, maybe I am completely mental. Took so long to get there the last time though so that is hanging over me somewhere!

Yep took us 8 months smaoifs so I have it in my head that it will take at least that again but would love if your "body knows what to do" theory worked!

Your probably right to avoid with all your travel plans but then you wonder about how long it will take, so hard!

Haha, that's very true...if I can do it anyone can! I would've left a bigger gap between mine if I was younger but being a "geriatric mother" as my consultant so eloquently called me, meant that I had to go sooner rather than later! I would love another but we've decided that we're blessed with our lot and as I had scary complications post delivery with the last two, we're calling it a day. Some days its completely bonkers with them but other days is just lovely and they will be friends as they grow, I hope! Good luck to you anyway and have fun trying ☺

Ah yes, the SPD joy! I was sick until 22 weeks and then that kicked in at 26 weeks and was NOT pleasant! Apparently you may not always get it during subsequent pregnancies - I think we are more likely to get it than somebody who has never had it at all on previous pregnancies, but there’s a reasonable chance that we could be completely fine next time around.

Were you sick during the last time? The SPD was really tough, but it’s the sickness that is most off putting for me.

I know. My boys are little miracles. We have been watching the babymakers on tv3 and marvelling at how lucky we were. I find myself looking back fondly at this time last year. My pregnancy was tough but also magical. It was amazing to grow two boys. Around this time last year I started taking it super easy and mid winter is a lovely time to have newborns just as the year renews. We had a wonderful spring and summer too.

    How is everyone?

We have a little chatterbox on our hands! She's full of mumumumum and gugugu and other sounds. Also loves blowing raspberries! When I'm chatting to her now, especially when she's lying on the changing mat, I can see the tongue moving trying to figure out her sounds. I know she's not calling me mumumumum yet but it's so lovely to hear. Such a sweet little voice.

I was so lucky, didn't have even a second of nausea. If I got pregnant again I have fingers crossed I will be as lucky!

Smaoifs my lad is a right chaterbox too, he has been since he was first able to make any noises really! No mumumu or mamamas for me though bit plenty of dadada bubub gugugu mmmmmmm and raspberries and gargling! He also will make kissing noises on demand too which is ridiculously cute! He still loves to scream and screech too especially at old ladies in the supermarket!

There’s nothing sweeter than their little voices, right? Those kissing noises sound adorable! Liam’s new trick is to make clucking noises when we ask, “where’s the horsie?”

We had an amazing night last night. I was out at my friend’s house so his dad put him down at 8, and he went asleep really quickly and easily. He woke at 3 for a feed but went straight back down, then woke at 7.15. I feel bloody amazing!!!!

:D. See everything is just a phase.

My twin 1 has been cruising and soldier creeping for ages but he decided to start crawling on Sunday. Which is just deadly!!! It's so cool to see him zipping around. Twin 2 is flying it as well. He has got much stronger in recent weeks

Delighted to hear that twin 2 is catching up!!! Each in their own time, on their own wee schedule!

Haha I think last night was just a one-off. Every few weeks he teases us with a good night, then goes back to his usual antics!

My baba is very clingy and whingey at the moment. Don't know if its a result of me going back to work, the 8 month leap that didn't appear to have hit or if she's teething (we're still waiting on the first teeth to cut). Hoping it passes soon. The babbling going strong here too. She seems to have a special language for her big sister too, when big sis can be bothered to chat to her in the first place!

And I thought I was gonna be Mam lol

I was in a restaurant on Saturday, had her on my lap when she finished her lunch and she nearly spun herself off my lap to make eyes at the waiter. 8 months old and already flirting!

We have a constant whinger on our hands here too. Smack bang in the middle of a leap so hoping that’s it. God some days are tough. Just woke after 30 mins. God give me strength

You can do this!!! It’s just a bad day... there will be a good day very soon. On a bad day when I’m going a bit doolally, I find it really helps to just get out the door and go to the park or something

There is an end deh, i think my wee man has just come out the other side of that leap and god could he whinge! He seems to have calmed now so its definitely that leap, good days are coming, promise!

I strongly second caitriona about the getting out, when they whinge or cry give out constantly i put him in the buggy and out the door, for some reason it either stops him or if it doesnt ,crying never seems as bad when they are strapped into the buggy, its like you cant hear it properly! You know they are okay cause you can see them, and they can see you, but they are just having a whinge and the wind seems to just blow some of the strength out of it!

Anyone started babyproofing yet? Tips or tricks? I’m dreading covering my wee house in silly stuff!

What did you use to keep baba away from the fire? I’m also wondering whether I can get away with only having a baby gate at the top of the stairs. Our stairs are in our living room, so I can’t shut baba away from them. My friend trained her wee girl not to go up them at all though??

My mum said the same as your friend, she never got baby gates just trained us to not go up the stairs. I am thinking it might be different with a boy though, I imagine he will climb everywhere, dreading it! When I look around there are ao many wires and sockets and corners and things that can be pulled down, its going to be a big job I think! If I can even just get one room done.......where to start though!

We had to baby proof as it's just not possible to mind the two of them. We have a massive play pen. A guard in front of stove. A stair gate on bottom of stairs. And locks on the presses. Twin 1 would love to climb the stairs if let.

A day in for me and baba. My parents are only a 5 minute drive away but it's so windy here (Waterford) already I've decided it's not worth the risk of driving 5 minutes just for company.

Same here, we're in lockdown waiting for storm to hit this afternoon. Its really rough already here so am freaking out at thought of it getting much worse when it is overhead.

Glad I'm breastfeeding anyway. it just came back on this evening. We have a small generator so we're able to pump some water and we have a gas hob. Not having water is the worst. Can cope with the rest.

So glad to hear its back for you fits, that must have been a tough couple of days. I was only thinking on sunday about how i wished i was still breastfeeding as i stocked up on premixed formula. Lucky you had that generator etc though!!!

Its mad, the panic we all get in over losing these conveneniences cause we are so used to them, it makes those ads on tv about mothers and babies in third world countries with none of those basic necessities much more heartbreaking and relatable doesnt it? Not that we can relate in the slightest mind you, but you know what i mean! Anything involving children is just far more real to me now that i have one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭greenttc

Cant believe i am writing this post now after thinking about babies in third world countries, but we have started thinking about christmas and presents....

We wont be getting loads of stuff just one or two things and then of course it will be birthdays in february so two lots of presents in a short space of time, trying to think what to get him. What are ye all thinking or have you started thinking along those lines at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,674 ✭✭✭✭fits

I was thinking the same greenttc and also how awful it is that companies push formula on mothers with no good access to clean water etc. It was going on in the refugee camps in France too. You do relate a lot more after having children

Re Christmas. I have been looking at getting a wobbel board. But not sure if they'll use it or not. It's expensive but looks like a great open ended toy.

One of the best toys we have is the stacking lighthouse from Ikea by the way. They are always playing with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭catrionanic

I’m thinking of getting him one of those wee trikes, where you strap them in and push them along, but it eventually converts into a trike they can pedal themselves once they’re old enough.

For his birthday, I’m going to get him one of those wee plastic Wendy houses, which I can use to store all his plastic crap!!

My parents and siblings are putting some money together to get him a new car seat, as he will need to move on soon enough. Other than that, I’m just going to get a couple of small things - definitely one of those backpacks with a lead on it so I can keep a hold of him once he’s on his feet!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭greenttc

Yeah it is crazy when they are offering formula, unless it is the fact that mothers are not getting enough nutrition themselves but bfing would be so much cleaner and easier.....its all so wrong. My heart really goes out to them.

Oh my god fits, do you mean the stacking cups from ikea, the top one is black like a hat?? My baby loooooooooves that, by far his favourite toy!!! So simple but hours of fun!

Must look up wobble boards, not sure i know what they are!

I thought of one of those trikes too caitriona but then a guy in smyths said they were a waste of money cause they dont fit in peoples cars so you have to be going somewhere from your house and not want to drive to the park and then use it there if you know what i mean, i am not sure i agree with him so am still going to give it thought.

We were so lucky that we were given a wendy house, cosy coupe and some other plastic car things from a friend, i have them all stacked up at the back of the garden and hope to take them out next summer. I reckon they will love the wendy houses! Mine are all a bit faded but dont think the wee man will care too much!

Considered a kitchen but wonder is that something i should leave till a second birthday or next christmas maybe. Maybe a walker would be good as i presume they will be starting to walk then?

So hard to know when all they are into right now is those cups! Oh and he loves a little keyboard that we got him too, anything that makes noise, those cups have been banged together alot!

We've gone for the trike here, just delivered during the week from Smyth's. Really looking forward to Christmas this year and being able to enjoy eating abd drinking as opposed to being heavily pregnant and in bad for last year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 508 ✭✭✭smaoifs

She loves making noise and banging things together so gonna get some musical bits and a few books.

We're lucky that our local shopping centre has a Santa that will just do the photo with the baby and not charge for a present. €5 for the photo so we'll definitely make that a family day out.

Her aunts have already started asking what to get her so I've just said clothes, she has enough play things for now.

I got the SmarTrike...it was on sale, think it was €70, and then Smyth's were doing €20 off €100 purchase on outdoor toys. I bought a bike for my toddler so it was a good deal in fairness. We live rural so we've loads of room around house and on road to be out with it so hopefully won't need to go in car with it.

We have the stacking cups from Ikea too. That's in granny's house. No the lighthouse. You'll know it when you see it. Would love a kitchen as well but it's probably too early.

    This is the wobbel board.

A kitchen is a hit from when they can stand so 9-10months in my experience. I’d go for it.

A I think I do know the thing, is it the stacking rings? Suppose it does look like a lighthouse!! Almost bought that but then implemented restraint level 10 which is needed for all ikea trips! Wish I had got it now!

Never seen that wobbel board before, its like another one of those simple toys that inexplicably get the most use! It is expensive for what it is but definitely looks like it will be a toy that will grow with them.

I am more convinced now about the trike, might head to smyths and have another look at them. Then maybe kitchen for birthday. And if I ever saw a wobbel board on adverts I would probably get that too!

Smaoifs, I agree with the any toys that make noise idea too, and books!!!

Hmmm I’m now not so sure about the trike, and thinking about the kitchen!

I was looking at the smart trikes in smyths on wednesdays. The one I liked was reduced from 109 to 79, but the girl said the sale was ending Wednesday. But we live in a mini mini house with no garden, just an upstairs roof terrace, so I was hoping to store the trike in our car as it is an SUV with a big boot. Hmmmm

Sale ends this wednesday coming or two days ago wednesday? Yeah the one i want is the same price, well i cant decide between two but both the same price. Need to look at them in person i think! Will also need to see if they can be folded up or what, i was only half thinking of them a few weeks back when i was talking to that guy in smyths so didnt ask proper questions.

I have so many big plastic things in my house now caitirona its ridiculous, bouncers, playtile things,a walker someone gave me which is massive but he loves it, a big squashy dog thing. I am in a three bed semi but there is no room here either! Luckily i have a shed and an understairs and a porch to store a bike if needs be.

Where would the kitchen go if you got it, you have to think of that too!

Oh for a big house with many rooms, i am sure all you country mamas have lovely big spacious houses with massive gardens! fits you sound like your on a farm if you had a generator, lucky twins if that is the case, i loved visitng all my uncles farms when i was young and was so jealous of my cousins! Although in fairness they were jealous of my proximity to mcdonalds, not that we got it very often, they still would have to drive over an hour to get close to one!! Doesnt that sound lovely!

caitriona meant to say, there is a birthday to think of too which is soon after christmas so if you grt a trike now kitchen could be birthday or visa versa, i am thinking trike first cause kitchen will be better when they are walking and trike can be used now almost! Maybe thinking like that might help you make up your mind
