I did on my pregnancy. Normally my dreams are boring, but I was having zombie v vampire apocalypse dreams worthy of Hollywood. My funniest was being at the Oscars and Brad Pitt was at the table and wanting to go on a session. He was like "you're Irish- c'mon on the lash with me, ye are all mad" and I was trying to tell him that I wasnt drinking because of the HUGE belly visible from space and he was having none of it. :D

Also had them while breastfeeding. I woke up laughing at some of those!

Yes! Some really crazy ones. It's so weird actually remembering dreams now. I used always wake up knowing I had dreamed but not remembering what of but now I remember them, even the not so crazy ones!

My mystery pain is no longer a mystery.... I talked to a friend yesterday and told her of my pain and she said that she had exactly that same pain and it was pelvic girdle pain, she ended up on crutches!

So off I went to the GP got my flu shot ( not a bother, no pain in the arm today or anything) and then I told her about this stretchy pain in the very bottom of my tummy, told her my concerns that it almost felt like it was my bladder expecially as it felt like it was a very full bladder being pulled when I moved certain ways.

Turns out my friend was right, I have pelvic girdle pain, lucky me!

When I looked at a picture of the pelvic bone I never really realised how many joints there are in it an when i see there is a joint at the front it all makes so much sense, it is exactly where I have that pain.

The GP said I should probably go see a physio otherwise it could end up getting worse. Among all my list of questions for her I forgot to ask for a physio recommendation so might go back to her about that but I am also wondering if this is something I should persue through Holles street. Anyone any experience with this?

In terms of mad dreams..... well I have been on some epic nocturnal adventures the past few months! its crazy but also quite entertaining!

  • Registered Users Posts: 288 ✭✭ally_pally

Same here with the mad dreams. Last night's involved me giving a press conference with Rory McIlroy during which he kept making really horrible racist and sexist statements and I ended up arguing with him in front of the press. If it's possible to have less than zero interest in golf, then that's what I have. So I've absolutely no idea where that came from.

In other news, I feel like I felt movement for the first time a couple of nights ago. Felt a few pokes quite low down followed by a fluttery sweeping motion from left to right. Very different to all the other twitches and twinges I've been feeling. So that was lovely.

I think I've felt the same. A little fluttery sensation and sometimes I'll get almost a pins and needles type feeling in one part of my belly.
20 week scan tomorrow and we are so excited!

Very exciting about your scan! Mine is Monday week - counting down the days to it. Very best of luck with it tomorrow!

All went well. Measuring as due the 12th now but they'll keep me at the 15th unless it changes by more than a week.
Placenta is nice and high. Baby is a wriggler but lying facedown so they couldn't get a look at the face or the heart front on. Back in 4 weeks for them to have another look.
They've said baby will be a handful, wriggling away but wouldn't move the way they wanted it to no matter how much I moved!

Ah that's lovely that you got to see souch action from the baby and even though they couldn't see stuff today it means you will have another go to have a good long look at him! It's so amazing looking at it, isn't it??

It really is! If they had gotten the images they wanted today, I wouldn't have been scanned again for another 8 weeks so I'm delighted I'll get to see again in 4 weeks.
We're not finding out the gender but you're about the 5th today to say he! My family and colleagues all think boy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 952 ✭✭✭s4uv3

    Brilliant Smaoifs, great news!
I had my scan on Monday, went great too. It's measuring eight days big - yikes! My husband is tall, so I'm blaming him for it's size :p
We know the gender but we're keeping it to ourselves. My family are having great craic trying to trick the gender out of me!

Today I bought a small few hospital essentials, I know it's way too early but I couldnt help myself. Babygros, hats, mittens etc.

ha ha, I just call my bump a he and all bumps are he's hence yours was too! I am convinced I am having a boy but am also convinced that I will be proven wrong and it will be a girl!

Great to have that scan to look forward to in 4 weeks!

I am always confused about that size thing, are they saying he is big for the date you think you are or are they seeing developmental things that you may not see for another eight days? very confusing! mine was a day behind, myself and my husband are not very tall (just average, not tall) so I wonder was that it or is it that some part of the baby was not present or as developed as much as it should have been a day later. I think I may be over thing this!!

so exciting to know what it is, must make buying things sooooo much easier!! finding it hard to find really cute gender neutral clothes... they are all a bit boring so far, I want colour!!!

I am heading to the baby fair this weekend so hoping to get a few bits there, maybe some of the bigger things. not sure how I will get on with this pelvic girdle pain though, might have to abandon the trip altogether half way through! cant imagine that I could leave my husband there to pick out the correct things!

I'm not totally sure greenttc, I think they just go by very specific measurements for what that particular day/week should be? Sounds very technical to me anyway :p

I think that's what it is. They measured the length of the femur and circumference of the head and some other stuff so I think it's going by what's expected by that date.
I had baby brain though and spent hours thinking that baby was 3 days late not early!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭greenttc

So the measuring size of the baby is a little bit of both, size and development. Huh, the things you learn!

Made it round the baby fair in one piece, phew! Not as many stands there as I expected but glad that it wasn't any bigger at the same time!

I am now the owner of loads of tiny pots of sudocreme, bepanthan, oilatum, wipes, plasters and breast pads, all for free which is great! On top of that though I also bought a baby bath, a gro bag, some dribble bibs, muslin cloths and...... Best of all, the pram! Well, a travel system! Fierce exciting!

I am going to a mothercare event next so will get the crib and changing mat etc then. That's it then I won't get anything else till baby is here, no need for a cot yet I don't think!

    Its all very real now!

Anyone have any experience of the chocolate next to me crib? Can't make my mind up about it. Or maybe I will just get one of those rocking cribs, too much choice!

We had our big scan last week, and baby was awkward apparently. She eventually got to see everything she needed though, so all good. I was in bits after though, she kept poking the bump to try to get the baby to change positions, and digging in to get better views.

I'm going to ask my doctor about spd and pelvic girdle pain when I'm in next. I'm limping a lot, in quite a bit of pain now.

We did the pregnancy and baby fair yesterday, got loads of freebies too! I bought a new changing bag (my Christmas present from hubby), some nipple shields and a couple of soother sterilizers.

I'm also really interested in the chicco next to me - found it on tralee nursery supplies for 188. My best friend had one for her little guy and found it great, she says she still has hers, so I'm going to borrow it, and just get a new mattress.

I've got a couple of slings already as I'm hoping to babywear. I feel weird buying stuff so early, but I want to get prepared, especially with Christmas coming up.

I think it is good to start buying stuff now, I cant see myself being ablr to walk around the shops and buy everything I want in december/January!

I have friends who swore by the next to me crib and said it was the one item they were delighted they bought. however I also have two friends who didnt like it at all, one said she got a fright one night as the baby almost fell between the crib and her bed. now, she has a superking bed so possibly didnt secure it properly but I also have a super king bed, cant make my mind up!!! The other thing I was a bit worried about was how I would get out of bed with a crib attached to my bed, I guess I would have to scoot down the bed a bit and that might not be great if I ended up with a section or if the PGP persists after birth.

on the PGP, I am suffering terribly with it Padme and reading about it, it seems that the sooner you get it seen to the better. I didnt even wait for my hospital appointment in the end, I ended up going to a physio privately, it was amazing how it all worked, she never needed to go near my pelvis as the probelms were in my legs and upper back but were all connected to pelvis so I got great relief, still painful but it takes a few sessions to help significantly but I have great faith that it will be gone completely, fingers crossed! if you want a physio recommendation in South dublin let me know!

another question for everyone, I am in holles street public and just signed up to a consultant during my booking appointment. never saw that consultant until very recently and while she was nice and knowledgable I just dont think I clicked with her. I also met another consultant who I am not officially with and loved her. Has anyone ever changed consultant?

I know if I read this question I would think, Of course you can and you are entitled to. And I would also think that its not like we see them lots anyway and might never meet them again but I have a higher risk of complications and feel that i might actually need them.

So does anyone have any experience of this and how did you get on?

Think I might just say it to midwife this week anyway!

    Hey green.
Defo chat with the midwife or even your gp and see what they think. I mean of course you'll be able but you just want to go about it in the right way.
Can I ask which consultant you are with? I was under a consultant in HS for a gynae issue. When I met her first I thought she was a bit blunt and brash but actually she was so so lovely to me. It's just hard to judge by one appointment. Again the consultant I'm with now - samd thing. Met her once and not sure but going to give her a chance. Am under Dr McAuliffe now. And my previous gynae was Dr Orla Shiel. Cannot speak highly enough of her!

    Thanks dreamstar,

I will pm you the current consultant because she was really very nice and I would guess has a lot of experience and knowledge so I don't want to have any even slightly negative thing on this thread about her. It was just that she didn't match my personality and the way I am used to working with medical professionals.

I will say that the consultant I really liked though was Mary Higgins, she was so understanding regarding one part of my care and I got on so well with her.

I am in two minds about changing and I think that if I hadn't met Mary Higgins I would be happy with who I have. I think my discussion around changing would be more talking about how good she was with me rather than saying I preferred her to someone else.

I don't want to it to look like I am complaining (because I am not) or like I am causing trouble!

I know - it's just slightly awkward I guess. Even though it shouldn't be. You're entitled to go to whichever doctor you prefer. It's nice to feel comfortable with whoever is looking after you.
I bet it happens all the time though.

I'm going semi private in HS, did that last time too. Last time I attended the assistant masters clinic, which was great because I met loads of different doctors, it was basically whoever was on that day. When I actually went in to have my baby, I'd met everyone before which was comforting. This time I went with one of the consultants I had met a few times and really liked. I've only had one appointment with him so far, but I'm happy with my choice. I've a gp appointment next Tuesday, as I'm doing combined care.

Baby is being very active these days which is lovely. I think it was doing star jumps last night because I could feel kicks very low down and over an inch over my belly button at the same time. It's definitely a night owl, it gets very active in the evening and at bed time.

Ah lovely! I'm starting to feel much more movement now, 19 weeks now! Can even feel some kicks when I rest my hands on my tum. It's lovely, himself has felt them too. My one year old puts her head on my tummy and I kinda bump it in her ear and she thinks it's hilarious! :D:D She calls it "mammys tummy house".

    That is too cute!
My husband could feel the kicks a couple of days after they started. It took my little lad a while to feel one because he has no patience. He was so excited the first time, thought the baby was giving him a high five. He keeps telling me he left all sorts of things in my tummy for the baby to play with, it's so cute!

GP today and got the flu jab. All ticking along nicely. Blood pressure is good and we got to hear baby's heartbeat! We had seen it on screen but hearing it so strong was just amazing.

I had my gp appointment on Tuesday, got the flu shot too. I've been feeling rotten since, one of the glands in my neck is badly swollen and really sore. She also confirmed I have SPD so I need to look into physio.

    How are we all?

I am fairly pleased with myself as I have gathered nearly everything this wee baba is going to need, all the furniture is arriving next week, bits like buggys and baths and baby monitors are all bought and up in his/her room. lots of wee little clothes, towels and muslin cloths have been bought washed dried and organised into boxes. now all i need is a changing bag and some breastfeeding paraphenalia and I will be done! very proud of myself!

To be honest I am trying to get it all in now though as I am worried about how mobile I will be in another few weeks, suffering badly with PGP although not on crutches so probably not as bad as some people.

Baby is moving away loads too even my husband has been able to feel a kick or too, so very exciting!

You're very organised! I must get the newborn clothes out for washing this weekend and get the bag ready. And hoping to get my Xmas shopping started (and hopefully finished) next weekend...don't think I'll be able for December shopping crowds!

I haven't posted here in ages but thankfully having a very uneventful pregnancy this time. I had my glucose tolerance test yesterday and I didn't get a telephone call yesterday evening from the hospital so looks like I'm in the clear for diabetes which is great. My bp is also well in control so I'm hoping that preeclapsia stays away this time. All in all time is flying by nicely. Hope everyone is doing well

I didn't have a great week last week, ended up in casualty in holles street, I was getting weird tightening/strong downward pressure every five or so minutes, so they advised me to come in to be assessed. Turns out everything was fine, they think it was stretching related to the SPD, but they're not that sure. The SPD is getting worse, and my mobility isn't great, and my anxiety is getting pretty bad.
We need to clear out the box room so we can start bringing baby stuff down from the attic to be cleaned and aired out. I ordered the chicco next to me crib this morning, and I've gotten spare parts for my breast pump. Need to get a new monitor and a new mattress for the cot bed, but that's about it I think. My husband has applied for his new public services card so he can get the paternity benefit, so that's done too.

It's funny. Time seems to be dragging in one way, but we have a lot to do to the house to get it ready for the baby, so three months doesn't seem like that long! I'm hoping to get signed off work at Christmas, I'm finding it very difficult at this stage.

I'm going to get the whooping cough vaccine in a few weeks, anyone else getting that?

Ah padme you must have had a fright getting pains like that, sounds like You could have thought labour was starting! I know with my pgp my belly can get really tight but it is just when i am walking and is a constant pain rather than at intervals. This pgp business is so so disabling! Cant wait to be able to move around normally again!

Tell me more about this public services card, i looked it up and read what it is and all but do fathers need to get one for paternity leave? Even when in full time employment? Do we need one for maternity leave? Or is filling in that mb10 form enough?

I am definitely nit going back to work after christmas, it would only be about two weeks sick leave anyway so not feeling too bad about that! Due feb 1st! Really hope i make it to christmas though, if this pgp gets much worse it will be awful trying to work after no sleep etc!

Yes, they brought me in to assess me for preterm labour, so it was scary. Was in there for hours, didn't get home until after 1am.

The Public services card: http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Public-Services-Card_holder.aspx They replace the old PPS cards, they have a photo on them, they are aimed at reducing socilal welfare fraud.
You need one if you want to apply for either maternity or paternity benefit online. I thought you needed one to apply for paternity benefit in any manner, but I think the page is just badly worded.
I already have mine as I was called in to get one, as I am in receipt of child benefit for our older child. Work will be posting my application in for me, so I won't be doing it online.

I have my good days and bad days with the SPD, some days it's so hard to walk at all, and I shuffle around like an old person. Other days my joints are a bit looser and I can waddle normally, lol. I've told my manager not to expect me after Christmas, but he's not surprised because he can see how bad I am getting.

I'm only a few days after you - due feb 4, but I'm getting sectioned at 39 weeks, so it'll be end of Jan.

How are you feeling otherwise? I'm trying to remember how things were last time, I still don't have heartburn, which is great, the only issue I have so far is the SPD. I'm going in for my anti-d shot in a couple of weeks, and then back to the consultant the week after - I assume they'll do the glucose test then, should have it done at 28 weeks I think.

Yeah I have told my work about not coming back after chriatmas also, just to be up front and honest with them and I think they appreciate that.

Did you have spd in your last pregnancy ( or did you already tell me the answer to that question in a different post?) it's just mad to me how I had never heard of it before and now It seems like every second person has it. Obviously pregnant ladies just don't talk about it much and suffer through, even a sister in law and a best friend have had it ( but only for a few weeks at the end) and never complained about it. I tell everyone! But mostly because I want to let people know why I am walking funny or standing up so slowly!

I had terrible heartburn from about 10weeks and still have it but was given tablets to keep it at bay, I couldn't eat or drink anything without feeling the rising acid and even being sick from it a few times but the tablets are like a wonder drug, have none of it now ( as long as I don't forget to take the tablet!)

Otherwise I really am grand not even too tired!

Another poster told me about a thing called a snoozle which I have ordered and awaiting it's arrival, really hoping it might help with the pain of turning in bed. Just FYI as I hadn't heard of it till she told me, might be of help to you too.

I did my glucose test this week and thankfully it came back normal, very relieved! Do we only do it once or do they make you do it several times?

Must look into this public services card so, still not sure if I need it but I suppose it will be needed for child benefit anyway so may aswell get it!

Hope your tummy tightening settles and you don't have to have that extra discomfort or worry! It's really not nice. Makes you think that we really are not in the clear till we have that baby in our arms, even at that it's still a worry! Ah!

In answer to the question about whooping cough, I'll be getting it in a few weeks. GP had told me to come back at 28 weeks but I found out Thursday I'll be having an antenatal appointment in the hospital that week so don't know if it's a waste of a GP appointment that I could reschedule for a fortnight or so later. They say it can be given up to 32 weeks.
Had my followup to the 20 week scan and they're happy that they can see the 4 chambers of the heart and that the lip and nose are closed.

Hi ll hope everyone is keeping well. All ticking along nicely here. Had my flu jab last week and will get the whooping cough in the next few weeks.
One thing that is bothering me is that I'm really not enjoying this pregnancy at all. First time round I was so excited but this time I'm wrecked all the time, guilty I can't do all the things my 2 year old wants me to do, crippled with spd at night and have turned into a right moody cow!! Can't seem to put my finger on why I'm like this. Obviously I would be more tired this time with a toddler to look after but its just annoying me now.

Anyway maybe I just needed a rant!!
I'm not back at the hospital until the 15th and have to have a second diabetes test. Lots of movement at the minute but not as much as my first so I might have a quiet one this time!!!
    Hope everyone is keeping well.....

    Hi Everyone,

I've been reading but haven't posted in ages. Glad everyone is doing well - random aches and pains notwithstanding. I'm 24 weeks now and all is going well. Found out we're having a girl and she's been moving around loads. 20 week scan went well. Even though she was doing her very best at curling up and hiding from the scanner, they saw everything they needed to see thankfully. Got my flu shot, due to get my glucose test and whooping cough vaccine soon and I've started hypnobirthing classes in the Rotunda. I can't believe how quickly time is flying by! I've bought literally nothing and we really need to get moving on that. I have a look online at buggies and then panic at all the options and wondering how will I know what's the right one to get and then shut the website down! Not sure how I'll manage motherhood if buying a buggy overwhelms me so much! :D

Totally get the "buggy panic" ally :pac:
I wonder is it that there's so much choice, so much variation, so many questions from people, so much jargon, that makes it impossible?
I think if you make a short list of what's vital for you then it would narrow it down a bit. Things like offroad wheels, small enough to fit your car, carseat compatibility etc.

26 weeks tomorrow here, and I can't believe how quickly time is going by this trimester. The first one dragged by so slowly.
All is going swimmingly with baby and physically I'm feeling ok thankfully, but I struggle with my mood somedays. I can only presume it's hormonal as there's nothing I can think of that's getting me down. I could just cry and cry for no reason, like the whole world is falling down around me. But it passes and I bounce back out of it again. I really hope it isn't an indication that I'll be a candidate for pnd, but no point worrying about that now :)
Gonna chat to the midwife at my next clinic and see what they say there.

Are you all planning on working as late as possible before mat leave?

On this point - has anyone seen the new baby bundle in baby elegance?
Bundle includes - Pram, buggy, carseat, raincovers, high chair, cot, matress, cot set, bibs, bath set, rubber ducks :), plug socket protectors.....think that's it. All for €999!
My sister in law got the bundle - they deliver it all together on a day you pick and everything is perfect. I've used the pram many times. Her little one turned one in August and she still uses everything so it does last.
So I ordered mine the other day and feel like I've done loads at once.

Padme, how are you now? That sounds shocking frightening! Glad that everything is ok though! At least they were proactive about checking you out! I'm sure you were wrecked though after it all! Can you get signed off work for a week to get some rest maybe?

I think that's exactly it. I feel like if I was given a choice of three buggies, I'd choose no problem. Because there are hundreds, I can't seem to choose!

And having said that, I'm sold! That's amazing value. I'm just going to order that I think. I value my weekends too much to be traipsing from one shop to the next trying to figure out which buggy handle is a better fit for me, ergonomically! That bundle is pretty much exactly what I've been looking for, so thanks dreamstar!

Yup, I'll be here until the bitter end! :pac: I quite like my job really so I'm happy to stay until early February. What's annoying me is I have around 8 days leave left to take before the end of the year, I genuinely don't know if / when I'll get to take it. I'd love to carry it over and add it on to my maternity leave, but my work is really strict about not being allowed carry days over. Oh well, not the worst complaint to have in the world. If I ever feel like complaining, I think of my friend in America who gave birth late November and was back in work first thing in January.

You're so welcome! I'm telling everyone about it. You can add to it or substitute things yourself and pay it off bit by bit. AND you can pay over the phone too. Check out their website - it's fantastic!

Poor americans, i am even thinking that 6 months is too short, we are so lucky in ireland really!

I have it in my head that i have to make it to christmas, my official mat leave starts half way through January as due the first of feb so i don't think i could face going back after christmas. I am literally counting the days till christmas holidays! Sometimes i am tempted to take up the offers of my GP to sign me off now but i suppose it is just the way i was brought up to not be "skiving" and leaving work early. A completely stupid thought really but there you go! Wish i had a job i loved though, you are very lucky ally!

I must be the only one in here that loved going out and picking up all the different baby bits individually, that bundle is amazing value and i had a look at it but i felt i would have been a bit robbed of the whole shopping for baby experience. Probably would have saved a lot of money going down the bundle route (in fact i definitely would have saved lots of money) but its our first baby and i couldn't help myself!
