Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

New Kittens - keeping safe from dog...

A friend of mine has become an accidental guardian to a litter of new kittens and their mammy after mammy gave birth in their barn. She is based up north and contacted a number of rescues to see if they can take the family but no one can help.

Her problem is that she has a dog who hates cats, so she can't move them into her house and she currently has her dog entrapped as she can't let him into the garden where the family are living. She was trying to think of a way to keep the family safe and allow her pooch back outside... any ideas?!

If the cat is in the barn, can she exclude the dog from the barn?

No, its open, no door... more a shelter then a real barn...

She's going to need to build something around the area that the cat is nesting in to keep the dog away. And it will need to be fairly robust and gap proof.

Could she not bring them inside to a separate room and keep the door locked? I really don't see there's another option, apart from paying to fence off the area, which I'm sure she doesn't want to do.

hopefully mother cat is big and strong enough to put the run on a smaller dog?
I think your friend is going to have to come up with some sort of a solution in the open barn, fencing it off somehow. Has she any other outbuildings she could move the cat/kittens to? If she cant enclose the kittens area, she will have to put some sort of a line on the dog, to keep him away from the kittens. If hes aggressive enough about getting at them, the mother might try to move the litter. Is there any way she can enclose an area for the dog in the garden, away from the barn? Such a pain for her when she is being so good as to rescue this cat/litter. Hopefully she has plans in place to have the mother neutered, and will get to rehome the kittens easily.
