25.7 Shannon was confirmed in early part of yesterday's weather.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,512 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

The warmth continued in week two, but it became much wetter and cloudy ...

IMT now on 16.0 with the week a toasty 16.3 (2.8 above normal for the period).

PRC is now on 100% thanks to the 180% average at our eleven sites, the range among those was 93% at Valentia to 378% at Casement. Dublin was a bit drier (82%) than Valentia but it's not in the set.

SUN is now 116% of normal as the second week only managed 51% (net rounding stat -1).

Perhaps the third week will be somewhat closer to normal in all three categories.

Will June be wetter than normal? Well in this week from Monday-Sunday (13th-19th), there have been 4 days with at least one station recording at least 20mm of rainfall.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,512 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

After three weeks of June ...

IMT now at 15.3 with the third week at 13.8, actually 0.2 below normal for that period, but the month remains well above thanks to the very warm first half.

PRC has edged up to 106 per cent of normal, as the third week ran slightly wet, at 118% of normal.

SUN has gone down below normal now, with the third week (61%) bringing the average to 97.5%.

I think in July theyl hv to take in the roads it will be so wet. Thunderstorms are probably making up 70 per cent of the rainfall as opposed to God awful plain wet days. At least its not raining non stop.. yet

Maybe a referendum, should Ireland remain in the Atlantic maritime climate zone, or leave? :)

As long as it doesn't affect the trade winds.

Is it looking wetter than normal overall?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,512 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

After four weeks (with projections of final values) ...

IMT on 14.9(2) with the fourth week rather cool at 13.9 which is 0.6 below average for that period. Cannot see this changing in last two days, expect it to round off to 14.9 for the final value, outside chance of 14.8.

PRC is now 112% of normal after another rather wet week at 128% on average. With the rain earlier today and expected through tomorrow, will speculate a finish at 115%.

SUN has slumped further down to 93.5% with the week at only 82% of normal (Cork did manage to reach its normal value). This will level off around 92 or 93 per cent for a final value, I think.

No changes to earlier reported max, min or bonus low maximum.

July thread is open and pinned. Scoring for June may be quite late to break, with the first being a Friday, the MS won't be available until after the weekend but also I am going away on a long weekend that includes Monday so I won't be working on scoring until Tuesday late. May post a provisional table tomorrow if I have time.

Actually, I have time to post provisional scores now, these are before any adjustments due to "minimum progression" and assuming that the low maximum holds, it could be challenged tomorrow in the north which would alter the two point location part of the question (which right now is going to be mostly zeroes).

I can confirm that the IMT finished on 14.9, it tried to escape (14.86) but no luck.

The PRC is 6% higher than my estimate (121%) from "monthly data" and this is because 29th averaged about 10 mm when a normal day is a little over 2 mm then the 30th was about in that average range other than Malin Head which got over 10. This meant that the 2-day mini-week was well over 200%. It would basically take away 2 points from all scores, but I may just leave them and call it minimum progression as I think that would now apply.

My SUN estimate still holds at 92% after checking the actual data (29th was more sunny than an average June day but 30th was dull, taking average at 70% reduces the estimate to 92% which is what I used to score. This will be further checked against MS on 5th.

Final point, despite some maxima in the 13-14 range yesterday, no station quite managed to displace Casement for the bonus value of 12.8 C as low maximum.

If I get a chance I may post a table of forecasts in the July thread but I am leaving early tomorrow on a four-day road trip so if that doesn't appear, look for it around the 5th also. Today looks vile there and is not that much better here. :(

I have checked the MS for June and found all the provisional values to be okay given that the PRC scores are now boosted by two points of mercy rule content (so they remain the same in other words). The low max of 12.8 was almost equalled on the 1st of July (which would not have counted) with 12.9 at Knock on that occasion.

So I will get on to the annual update and post that as soon as I can. First though, I will repost the provisional scoring in the order of finish etc.

Okay, so congrats to waterways for leading the pack in June, and to Sryanbruen and Carnacalla who were tied for second after penalties. As noted, PRC scores are boosted by 2 points over raw scores.
