Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The lads didn't spare Joe McQuillan tonight.

Really highlighted how poor a game he had. Some baffling decisions.

It's not baffling, he favoured the bigger team.

He was equally bad to both sides.

    .

I imagine Fermanagh would dispute that given the two biggest decisions went in Mayo's favour during the game.

I was at the match. Equally poor for me.

Crowd may have influenced the last few decisions though. The rage when he didn't award the O'Connor penalty was savage. McQuillan knew he had made an error IMO.

Gave a soft free to Alan Dillon soon after and then the penalty.

On first viewing, I thought it was a penalty. Looks like the defender has clipped his heel.
Bear in mind that the referee doesn't have the benefit of multiple replays to help him out on it!

Ah would ya stop. Even if he clipped his heel that would have no impact on his hands flying up into the air like they did.

A dive all day. Only Joe and a fool would think it was a penalty at the time.

Any need for the personal abuse? I'm a Corkman so have no skin in this game but to me on first viewing, it was a penalty.

They made a similar point on the Sunday game, that in real time it was hard to tell. I was sitting in the stand watching it and my immediate reaction was that he dived. So I don't think it's a valid point. The Fermanagh defender did everything he could to demonstrate that he was NOT fouling him. It was a very very poor decision by the ref.

I dont know you so it's not personal. Don't be so precious.

But it is a valid point because some people on first viewing though it was a penalty.

Just because you did not does not invalidated the point that in real time its hard to tell.

From my viewpoint at the front of the stand(quite close to the incident) on initial viewing it was a stonewall penalty, obviously replays have change my opinion.Really difficult in real time for Joe McQuillan to make a call.

TBF I can stand over my opinion that it was equally poor for both sides,we could'nt buy a free off him in a large part of the first half.By the time he waved away Cillian's claims for a penalty the crowd were none too happy to put it mildly.

He certainly got a big call wrong with the penalty and I am not sure if he bottled out of sending Aidan O Shea off or was ignorant of the fact he could'nt give a second tick or lacked an awareness of the fact he given him the first one.

    Who'd be a referee?Impossible task.

Have no issues with O'Shea finally getting some rub of the green from a ref. The man gets absolutely no protection and is fair game for defenders due to his size. It was a soft penalty but we'll take it.

Inferring someone is a fool is personal abuse whether you know them or not.

On the Sunday Game tonight if Joe Brolly is on ( by the way I enjoy him on the show as he is great entertainment value ).

If he is asked about Derry I hope he says " Ask someone else as I only want to cry"

A pundit isn't supposed to entertain, they are supposed to analyze. That's everything that's wrong with RTE sports coverage, the pundits see themselves as a bigger attraction than the game they are supposed to cover

Brolly is good at recognising flaws in teams, unfortunately he plays up the obnoxious bollox persona way too much and people don't take him seriously as a result.

The truth is the producers are looking for opinions and entertainment rather than anaylsis, whihc is why you get all that guff.

Yeah , brolly is to the Football coverage what dunphy is to rte's soccer coverage .
Can make ocassional good points , and causes discussion / outrage/ interest.
    Its entertainment after all

Of course an analyst is there to entertain. It's only sport. The soccer panel would be very flat without Dunphy.

Pat Spillane is unlikely to get the door for the very same reason.

Spillane used to be controversial, now he's just a broken record. Yerra teams can't kick pass anymore... it was brillint attacking football (no defence to be seen anywhere), Will they win next week Pat? No they haven't a hope their too naïve... You'd have a better chance of learning the 3rd secret of Fatima than knowing what's goin' on in Kerry training...

Same crap ad nauseam for about 25yrs. Time to change the record.

Absolute tripe. Dunphy makes RTE sports coverage a complete farce. The man knows nothing about football more than you would get from the average pleb in a pub. I'd say 90 of his opinions and musings have patently proved to be wrong.

Brolly is different, he actually does know the game but let's himself down the on TV with constant personal attacks on amateur people doing what they do for the love of their County. He should have been thrown off on several occasions for some of those attacks and RTE should have apologized but they don't do that.

I actually think - and I'd say I've literally never defended him before - that Spillane nearly gets too much abuse at this stage.

I've seen him go out of his way a few times over the last couple of seasons not to splutter and whine when games are defensive, to describe games he once would have described with the look of a shell shocked war veteran as 'fascinating', and even to criticise teams for not having good enough defensive structures.

I don't always watch the punditry to be fair, but the last incidence of him being extremely over the top that springs to mind was 2011. I still don't rate his analysis very highly, but if you're going to give out about him at least give out about the right thing.

What kills me about nuacht is that I've a decent level of comprehension in irish but some of the fecking accents make it impossible. There's one norn reporter and you might as well be listening to a bulldog chewing toffee

It's like having a Healy Rae reading the 6 O'Clock news

I thought talking about the private lives of those involved in the GAA was verboten on these boards? I have reported this post twice and have got no response.
