just wanted a students perspective to see is there a difference between the 4 year/5 year and 6 year medicine courses in any 3rd level college?
I'm looking to do surgery,is there a particular course that would be suited to that? I know I can find it online just wanted an opinion of someone who is actually doing the course or knows more about it , Thanks for reading!

I'm pretty sure the 4 year courses are for graduate medicine. Then some courses include premed, eg. UCD, so that makes it 6 years whereas the standard is 5 years. I have friends in TCD Med who are constantly busy in first year with mad hours and study, but they enjoy it. UCD premed on the other hand is a doss with basic sciences to be studied. And any medicine course will gear you towards surgery. After you finish your undergrad, you specialise in surgery and do fellowships and what not, which takes about 6-10 years depending on your field.

You probably have made a decision by now; but if not-
Graduate Entry Medicine is 4yrs, entry based on GAMSAT exam results.
Mature student is 5yrs, entry based on HPat plus interview
6yr Medicine is standard course which includes a pre-Med year, entry based on Leaving Cert points

If you don't get in on 6yr course and aren't a mature student then go for a science related primary degree and sit GAMSAT exams, and do the 4yr GEM (Graduate Entry Medicine).
I'm selling GAMSAT study materials at €399 (cost over €1600, unused as duplicate set, includes on-line study login card too). Five weeks of study with these materials got my daughter into her first choice GEM course in RCSI.
Good luck whatever route you go!
