Hi there, completely new to GPS and the maps, I have established on buying a garmin, that you need to get better maps for Ireland from
    https://talkytoaster.me.uk
    or some other providers...

He does supply a few different types, and subscription, can anybody point me towards what is the ususal one to get? I presume most of his updates are for UK and not Ireland.

For me this is for Hiking and topology and safety, not road navigation.

If anybody has experience of https://talkytoaster.me.uk
    I would appreciate some pointers.

    Tks, Alan.

Those maps are designed for use with older, now obsolete Garmin models that don't support raster maps, and are very, very limited. They're not much more than contours with a few major roads and some summits, that's it.

All current Garmin outdoor GPS models support raster maps and can either be ordered with, or can be later upgraded to, full OSi 1:50k mapping.

EDIT: I've just looked on Garmin's website and can't find the OSi 1:50k maps anywhere, very odd! It used to be called "Garmin Eire Discoverer. Maybe they've withdrawn it for some bizarre reason. I'll investigate further ...
