I'm getting an issue where my screen will go black for like a second and come back again but whatever I'm watching will reset and I'll have to refresh the page. Only started two updates ago and doesn't happen in game so hopefully will get patched out soon.

Are you using a stable version of the drivers or a beta?

Nah official update installed through Radeon UI (16.9.1).

If I were you I'd uninstall the drivers and go back to an older version.

Nice that AMD get to charge €600+ for a graphics card again? :pac:

You mean when you gimp a GTX 1080 to do a comparison with a 980 Ti :D

Always my favorite meme relating to AMD users :)

I think the chart may be more accurate than people think. I've a 980ti and any comparable benchmarks(both ingame and inbuilt) ive done have shown the 980ti to be very close and sometimes equaling and sometimes even bettering the 1080.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,410 ✭✭✭Icyseanfitz

the 1080 in that chart was underclocked to 980ti clocks, 980ti is around 1070 speeds

You're either trolling ;) or severely CPU bottlenecked.

Personally im interested to see what AMD have to offer, nice to be able to have a genuine choice in the mid to high end.

I dont think there gonna have anything thats gonna smash Nvidia or anything but if picing and performance can be reasonably competitive thats good for everyone really.

Is there a new card in the works bye amd?

    Yes.

Only known by their codenames "Vega 10, Vega 11, Vega 20" for now.

early next year. If your looking for a powerful card, go Nvidia. If your looking for a mid range card, then AMD can be competitive depending on budget.

    early next year.

1H next year so I'd imagine it will be around June as if it was due early in the year they would have said 1Q.

    JayzTwoCents water cools a 480.

Very sweet results but bumps the overall price up to 1070 levels.

Got 480x this morning, after a bit of fiddling with cables to get freesync working I am all good to go. A quick question about freesync though, do you leave vsync enabled in game settings? Or do you leave it off?

Found this on from someone who asked the same question on r/amd subreddit:
It's up to you. Vsync will (or will not) be used when your card goes below or above the monitor's FreeSync range. So you'll get either stuttering with Vsync or tearing without it. You can also use FRTC (frame rate target control in Catalyst settings) to limit framerate so it doesn't go above the monitor's FreeSync range

But, can't speak from experience as I don't have a freesync monitor myself..(yet!)

And FYI you're better off turning off any kind of sync if you're not getting or not bothered by tearing. My high hertz screen very rarely tears no matter what I do so I just leave syncing off. Syncing on seems to delay my inputs. No experience with FSync, though.

I'm having real trouble with my Sapphire 480 Nitro 8GB. I ran a benchmark test with Deus Ex Mankind Divided on preset High settings, and got an average FPS of 33.3. Minimum 3 FPS, maximum 58.8. I ran Mirror's Edge (2009) with everything maxed out, and the frame rate dropped to single digits when the action kicked off. Overwatch is similarly playing worse at High than my old 280x at medium.
    Windows 10 64 bit
    Samsung 850 250GB SSD
    i7 2600 3.4GHz
    8GB RAM
    Radeon Crimson 16.9.2.

Any ideas what's going on? Feeling pretty stupid that I'm getting no difference in performance from a two year old card with 3GB memory...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,766 ✭✭✭RossieMan

I assume you have it in the correct port? Drivers up to date?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Single digit frames would normally be CPU related given your max is 60.

    Have you checked CPU usage

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭Gingervitis

This is the cpu-z and radeon settings. Why is there a discrepancy in the memory size?398408.PNG

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

    And the core clock.

Run MSI Afterburner and see what its picking up

  • Registered Users Posts: 690 ✭✭✭Gingervitis

    398411.PNG

Also, for some reason, my load times have increased drastically, despite loading off the SSD.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Do all the clocks show up okay in MSI yeah?
