    in Salthill.
Why is there no Gentlemens Beach?

When will this appalling gender-named location be revised? How is this travesty allowed in the 21st century? #shocking

We could easily rename it to Lads' Beach, would that keep you happy?

Never mind Ladies Beach, I still want to know if it is Kennedy Park or Eyre Square.

I like the name. Let's not rename everything just to pander to a few vocal idiots.

Legend has it that the beach is named after a gentleman by the name of John Lady.

You can climb down off the horse and sleep easy tonight now.

    That doesn't make sense.
If it were true it'd be "Lady's beach", not "Ladies beach"
Which actually should be "Ladies' beach"

It's actually a misnomer and misleading, because I rarely see ladies there.

We were only on about this last week.

Where is it? I thought it was across from Grattan park but my mate insisted its where the steps are after Blackrock.

There actually used to be some separate beaches for men (I think one of the ones up farther up near Blackrock), for swimming in the nudes and stuff.

Ladies beach was where the small shop is on the beach, at one time it was ladies only allowed there and only men were allowed to bathe at Blackrock

I thought it was called Ladies beach because the water was shallower and more gently protected due to a breakwater.
Either way its sexist and needs a rename! Now!

The reason it's called ladies beach is sexist I think a priest or bishop back in the day said that's where the women should go as to not entice men ( I may be completely of but it's something like that) the name has stuck around till now and I doubt it'll be changed as it's engrained in memory

If that's the case, where are all the other ladies beaches around?

At Mulranny Co Mayo there was an area on the western edge used by the local nuns

The old GSR hotel had bathing/dressing huts on the eastern side. Still there in the fifties
