Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That was an astonishing free kick. Messi top Argentina scorer of all time now

    I dunno

He aimed it the side Guzan was covering

Its like he thought, how can i make this **** goalie look worse

To be fair though, it went as close in the corner as possible, I think it even skimmed the corner when going in.

That reminded me of Ireland v Spain in 2012. The US couldn't get near the ball the whole game. Argentina were excellent, and an astonishing free kick from Messi. At first I thought the keeper could have done better, but it was just a brilliant strike

I'm actually going to Soldier Field tomorrow for Chile v Colombia. As much as I'd like to see a cracker, I reckon it'll be pretty cagey for the most part

Ah I know it was a great free kick

    I just hate Guzan

So Ill take any chance to give him a dig

If you watch Guzan, he takes a step to his right just as Messi connects. That cost him.

Overall, really bad team selection by Klinsmann again and the players were not at the races. Not sure what the tactics were for them e.g. to press or not to press. Anyways, it was an easy win by Argentina, most of them barely broke a sweat.

wtf is this, they cut the Chilean anthem this time

2-0 Chile after 10 mins. Another hockeying....

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,735 ✭✭✭Vincent Vega

Feels like such an injustice having a 4 year wait to watch these guys play at a proper tournament. :(
Hope they can keep this up for the next 2 years after Sampaoli leaves.

It's fair pishing there now. This is what my life has become, watching rain in the US cancel a game between Colombia and Chile on Albanian TV.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,299 ✭✭✭✭The Backwards Man

Pitch will never stand this rain.

I'm glad I don't cut turf in Chicago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

So that was the third time I've been to Soldier Field and the second time I've ended up stranded underneath the stand due to a severe storm. Next time there is for Ireland vs the All Blacks in November so if you're travelling for it, bring rain gear.

An enjoyable first half anyway, I was pretty impressed by Chile, although the Colombian defending was suspect for the first goal in particular. Unsurprisingly, the game was a bit of a slog for the second half and descended into a niggly affair.

The final has the potential to be a great game, lets hope it lives up to its billing and is not another 'safety first' approach by both team

My God, that Messi free kick must be up there with the best free kicks of all time. what a hit

Final is on in just over an hour, should be a good game.

Read that Chile said they had a plan for Messi tonight, clearly that plan is to kick the crap out of him.

Or anyone else that comes near their goal

Can't see anything but an Argentina win based on the action so far

Higuain always bottles it in the big matches. That was criminal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 897 ✭✭✭NyOmnishambles

I had just been eyeing him up for first scorer before that chance

Will probably just stick to my Argentina to win bet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,500 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Chile down to 10 men. Gonna throw a few quid on Argentina by two now, probably the last team you want to play with 10 men.

Down to ten men already, Chile! Bit crazy

    Bull **** second card

The most protected player on the earth

Ref wanted to give a red since the start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,500 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

The ref loves being the centre of attention, just look at his carry-on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Straight forward enough yellow card for Diaz, turned his body to block Messi while he was going past him.

    Messi booked for diving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,500 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Another red, for Rojo this time. 10v10, this could get good!

On second look, that is a shocking decision. Barely a yellow if even that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Another red. Rojo.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 344 ✭✭Kobe248

    All the cards

Hes not controlling this game at all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Awful decision for that red. Vidal blowing another part off his 'hard man' facade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,500 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Was going to switch to the Game of Thrones finale at 2 but there's far more drama in this I'd say!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Never a red card. Dreadful decision.

That was a dive alright from Messi, deserved yellow. But of course the Chilean's surround the ref.

You often hear someone say that the ref 'likes to give out cards' but Ive never seen a ref get as much pleasure form the physical act of handing out a card as this fella.

    The big gestures are funny.

I didn't look myself but my mate said the bookies were expecting a dirty game.

Down to 10 each now. Should be more LOLz in this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,688 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

This ref is bonkers, ruining the game

Agreed. Rojo did'nt touch him on the slow-mo. But at least we should now get a cracking 2nd half

I wonder what price I could get for 5 red cards and both coaches sent to the stands?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Almost as many imaginary cards being waved by the players and staff. Sad.

Sad to see the more talented players doing it as well, Messi, Vidal etc.

Jaysus this ref is a shocker

    No control over the game

To be a little fair to him, imo he only got the Rojo sending off wrong. Diaz and the Messi booking were both correct, picking out the other 2 bigger talking points.

Ref is rightly taking plenty of abuse here at the HT whistle, only consolation is that he doesn't seem to be showing favouritism, he just wants to dole out the cards to whoever he wants.
