New plan, I'm just banning tennis altogether. Kids fell asleep early, stick on the highlights, mmm, looks a bit short, maybe they compressed it further. Nope, recording stops with over 6k to go. I shouldn't be surprised really given that it is Eurosport after all.

Just set all cycling to record with a 45 min window either side of scheduled start and finish, then you'll rarely be blighted in future!

Why are the opinions of people who think the two aforementioned comedy shows (and very successful, I might add) any less valid than yours? My dad likes both of those shows and in particular, mrs bucket. Nothing wrong with him.

Yours was a very elitist, narrow minded and needlessly hateful post IMHO about a guy just doing a job and enjoying himself doing so and trying his best to be as entertaining as he can for the viewers, whom you have also rounded on for no sound reason. Uncool, man.

In my naivety I saw that Eurosport had updated the start time of the highlights show to reflect the overrun from the tennis and thought they'd do the same with the end time.

I'll just have to grab it when it goes up on the catch up service on Sky, in the usual ****ty quality they put up. I was away for the last couple of stages of the Giro but had the house to myself on the Sunday so went to watch them. The audio track of the 3 stages I caught up on was like those robots from the Smash ads in the 80s being battered about the voice box with a metal bar. Something had seriously gone wrong with the upload.

Kirby irritates the fcuk out of me too, and I know fcuk all about pro cycling. I don't even know when he's getting things wrong most of the time, that would send me over the edge.

Some people like certain commentators, others don't. Matt Stephens irritates me too. Love SK. I like Dan Lloyd and Declan Quigley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Otoh I find Quigley professional but dull & bland.

Kirby is an idiot. His bias towards Sky and British riders is embrassing as well as the current flavour of the month. Give me Hatch and Kelly any day. Hatch can match Kirby any day in the emotional department too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭Andre 3000

As for tomorrow, almost certainty that it'll rain apparently. Contador is plagued by allergies and as a guy who is suffering from shocking hay fever the last few days I can empathise with any athlete who struggles with it, it's f*cking cruel. If it rains tomorrow and he doesn't show up then it's safe to say he hasn't got the legs this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Kirby is brilliant. Hatch is a total fool. It's a world of absolutes here. If you don't agree with me, you obviously need help, and never mind being allowed contribute on the internet, should have been prevented from developing the most basic literacy skills. Green for GO, and Red for Stop - that's about as far as you should have been allowed to go.

A British commentator on the British Eurosport having a grã for British riders and British teams, that's bleedin shocking that is, and thoroughly unexpected.

I never could bear Kirby either. What a relief it was to be rid of him for the Giro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,070 ✭✭✭✭neris

Not a big fan of of kirby but dont like quigley or his little scottish sidekick from mtn. David millar on itv could nearly put you to sleep but hes actually good to listen to and good at pointing stuff or talking about whats going on and how the riders would be feeling

What's the guys name who done the giro with SK. I like him and the Irish lad isn't too bad either. Matt Stephens is good also when he's with someone other than Kirby.

I find anyone with him gets brought down to jokey buddy level with stupid phrases that they feel they must laugh at, kinda like match of the day when lineker is presenting.

That was rob hatch. The same fella who used to do the football italia on c4 all them years ago. He's ok but his overpronunciation of names can be a bit wearing after a while.

True. I wouldn't consider him pompous or self important, just a brutal commentator. He gets far too emotionally involved in the action and it causes him to make mistakes.

Having said this, Kelly seems to genuinely enjoy working with him so he can't be all bad.

Yes but to express an opinion of not liking the man and his humour and prefering Kelly is
Yours was a very elitist, narrow minded and needlessly hateful post IMHO about a guy just doing a job and enjoying himself doing so and trying his best to be as entertaining as he can for the viewers, whom you have also rounded on for no sound reason. Uncool, man.

A personal attack where I am entailed to express an opinion for a service I pay for...I am not talking about a man in the street ...I am talking about the quality of a broadcaster whose wages I contribute to and I cannot switch him off if I want to see the race or hear Sean Kelly

I was also commenting on the quality of broadcast including sense of humour ...not on morals of the broad caster...so the comment on Kelly doping is neither here nor there in this discussion...(There are many sportsmen o the 20th century who are revered and we don;t know what their drug up take was ...in athletics, boxing, tennis, football, etc...but I cannot like Kelly becasue he hasa doping ban ?)

And if Kirby is fine including his humour and the TV shows I mentioned are fine how is it elitist and narrow minded to equate one to the other ? I don;t understand the attraction of the humour of either was my point and to cast an aspiration of this analogy being narrow minded & elitist would conclude a greater degree of judgement than I made on behalf of the viewers who like both or either

And I can be attacked for calling him pompous and a wind bag

But it goes unchallenged for him to be called a fool or an idiot by others on here ?

But I am hateful?...very strong and uncalled for comments

I think the above personal attack is harsh and uncalled for and anyone thinking that should be supported should think again.

I am surprised the mods allow this and thus I won’t be staying on the site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,338 ✭✭✭Lusk_Doyle

To be called "elitist, narrow minded and needlessly hateful"

    is not personal ?

" about a guy just doing a job" whom i "have also rounded on for no sound reason."

..I see only one attack on this thread and its not towards the others who have expressed strong opinions on broadcasters but only toward me

Tinkoff seem to be trying to get riders up the road to attempt a "Nibali" according to the cycling new ticker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭velo.2010

Hopefully, we might get the last two climbs on TV and the GC guys will have kept their powder dry until then but... Contador might have a crack on the Madeleine and the thing blown apart by the time we see live coverage.

It will now be up to Sky and BMC to chase to protect the GC positions of Froome and Porte.

    12:55:51 GMT
Also in the move is Fabio Aru, plus Jesper Hansen (Tinkoff), Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha), Dayer Quintana (Movistar) and Bjorn Thurau (Wanty).

Vuelta 2012 all over again. Its up to ASO to dictate when the race goes live and its locked in with schedulers some weeks out but jaysus you think they would have some sense that this would kick off early in the stage.

Only one hour to go til live coverage. Frown.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,488 ✭✭✭Andre 3000

Contador who's joined by Aru, J-Rod and baby Quintana have 30 secs on Froome and the main group.

i can never understand why they cant just put up the feed from the race on eurosport palyer. they can show any number of poxy tennis matches over 8 or 9 channels but can never show the cycling till their broadcast goes live. surely the tv cameras on the road are broadcasting and relaying pics from the start of the race and not plodding around the peleton till someone in a tv control room tells em to turn their cameras on

Contador caught by Sky before the summit of the madeline, wonder will he go again. I think he was hoping froome would chase and that would break the sky train but didn't work this time
